I said in the previous post, I hear Troy a few times mentioned that love didn’t see so-and-so or went a different way. This happens all the time in every nfl game but tonight for some reason, it seemed to be more of a consistent basis that love wasn’t seen the entire field.
Rule 1: Don’t listen to commentary. I hate them all. I hate the profession. I hated John Madden. They are filler and the world would be better if they would just not.

I mostly withhold judgement until someone with All 22 reviews film after the fact.

I will say he got happy feet tonight, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he overlooked receivers on certain plays. Of course Fangio is a hell of a DC so it wouldn’t surprise me if the receivers we covered when he looked and open when he moved through his progression. Pretty common situation in zone.

I’ve been critical of love tonight. However, I saw three drop passes by wide receivers. One by Dobbs, maybe wasn’t perfect but the other two no excuse for them to drop it to keep the driver alive.

The other two were ick, but the Doubs catch was bad because he’s been the defacto 1 this season. He’s been the possession receiver. Those are the plays he needs to make because he’s not athletically special.

I usually try for three and three but I’ll make it simple tonight.

Studs: defense. Overall a very strong performance against a good team. I think they did just about all we could have reasonably expected of them, and probably a lot better than most of us expected. (The line was set at like 44.5, so Vegas was expecting a lot of scoring)

Duds: offense. This offense looks to have completely bottomed out. We are lost without Kraft. There are no “gimme” plays. We still apparently have no concepts for an intermediate passing game. We continue to struggle with basic procedural penalties and cannot play with discipline. Our play calling does us no favors. We have a 240m QB who we don’t trust. Our team seems to perform best in quick passing situations but our coach seems to prefer ground control time management style of gameplanning with long developing passing routes on passing downs. Injuries have certainly been a factor but for Love to have just 13 pass TD through 9 weeks and the offense having scored a total of 20 points across the last two games is inexcusable regardless of injury situation.

Stud- Defense like you mentioned.

Dud.. WTF was that 4th and 1 play call Matt? The damn game was on the line!!
Well, if it was Philly they hand it to Barkley or Tush it. In our case we do not have the O Line to execute that against the best defenses. Not only did they stuff it, but we committed a penalty for not even setting up right. The smart play there if you do not want to go short quick pass is play fake with a rollout QB option. Mahommes does it day in and day out.

The miss to Jacobs on the last drive hurt. If Jacobs turns the other way and Love gives it more air, it is a big play.

Defense. They've had some rough games but have mostly lived up to the hype.

Duds

Offense. Not drafted a difference maker receiver for a decade has caught up to us, Love has not progressed as far as we think perhaps, and Lafleur has forgotten how to call an offense and the sad part is you can't be like okay well let's let someone else call the plays and you can just manage the game like he's bad at that too.

We might be the browns

DUD: Love, how many passes did Carter knock down that were thrown right at him? How Love couldn't see that out stretched arm is beyond me!

DUD: The whole offense!!! NOBODY ever steps up on offense, when needed, they always step down! That oline is ATROCIOUS!!!!

DUD: Coaching,, this is year 7 of Lafleur, year 3 with love as his qb, why does this offense still continuously seem to be out of sync??? Other teams have rookie head coaches step in and deliver better offense than this team!!!

Stud: Defense!

Practice is just not consistently translating to game day. Even with backups the execution of some of the simple, basic plays is not happening. And the result is that 1st and 10 goes to 3rd and 10 and then 4th and 3. And what is really ugly is that it is happening on home field.

Rookie difference makers are very rare. Yes, they can have a major impact in year 2,3, and 4 but even then it has to be complimented with other parts to the puzzle.
Randy Moss made a big impact as a rookie. But his success was enabled by a top QB, a strong blocking offensive line, an All Pro running back, and several good receivers around him. Once he went elsewhere his numbers were not the same.

This is unpopular

1st it was Matt rides on Aaron coat tails

He proved that wrong

He had a qb that wasn’t even on the team as the season started last year and got 2 wins

I say it’s players

Tonight at least 2 drops that would keep drives alive
How exactly did Matt prove that wrong?

By barely sneaking in as the 7 seed twice and winning one singular wild card game? That proves he’s the man?

Dud: the announcers never mentioned that the Packers were also missing Jayden Reed.

I’m not going to berate the team. If this was a 45-41 loss to the SB champs people would not be as upset. Instead, the defenses ruled and it was 10-7.

Whatever, things will progress.

I don't know if MLF is the problem, what is obvious from too many games is that Love is not the answer for a QB to lead this team to the SB. Aikman last night commented at least 4 times where Love missed open receivers(2 for first down) failed to make a pass that was truly catchable or plain failed to lead the offense. For a $50M/year QB the guy is not elite, this is game 3 now where the offense has scored a total of 30 points- all losses and the D has held opponents to 39 pts. Many don't want to hear it or believe it, forget the stats, watch JL his read progressions are slow, his release time is not elite, he fails to often to feel the pressure and when he is about to get sacked instead of holding onto the ball he "makes a dumb play" (ie, the sack where he fumbled the ball trying to throw a pass but did not have the ball in his hand). Yes, after Farve, Rodgers one can compare, maybe JL will improve but in year 4, having been starter for a lot of games he is not showing he is the guy. Too many passes into coverage that make no sense, missed opportunities with open receivers and when you watch him consider if he is the leader a QB needs to be. Sure, admit the OL is fair at best, their WR's once thought to be elite are not and without Kraft they miss a huge component of passing and blocking. Still, JL can talk all he wants about poor play, it starts with him to make plays despite all the issues the offense has including play calling .... Consider also that MLF may know the limitations of JL and of his offense and therefore, his play calling reflects those limitations while he tries to put the offense into position where whatever strengths they have will show up in results.

Too many fault the HC, the players on this offense are like riding a roller coaster (except for Jacobs and Kraft). The line is fair at best, Banks has not proven to help, the others are limited. Too many mistakes, too many failed blocks, too many times getting beaten. Between JL and the WR's there is little chemistry, whether it is missing the open guy, inability to get open, failure to catch a ball (Melton)- this offense leaves a great deal tob e desired. It is not the HC per se, he is working with a bunch of players who are limited in their ability and in their capability- from the QB down through the entire offense. Ask the question, who brought these guys in and who paid them multi-million $ contracts, it was not the HC - he coaches with what he has and to suggest this offense is elite or even VG is fooling yourself.

Studs: The Defense, they answered the call, and came ready to play.

Duds: This All Brake, No F'n Gas Offense. It is turning into a broken record, and has been the root cause of all 3 losses.
I started thinking we need Bart Starr as QB. He could call the plays in the huddle and change them on the line. And MLF could just watch.

When Melton has to be moved from Defense-STs to Offense you know the checking account is empty.

We've had Aaron Rodgers and Jordan love back to back and our passing attack has been inconsistent for a decade

The difference is that we have a defense now. Back when our passing attack was very consistent ( 2011-2016 ) it did not get it done either. The reason was that we had no defense to compliment that passing attack.

I'm gonna pop back in here to remind anyone who thinks our D was a STUD of one thing.

That wasn't a scoop and score, or a Pick 6 the Eagles got their TD on. They rammed it down the D's throat when the D needed a stop. Failures at every level of the team.

DUD: MLF Play calling and lack of adjustments mid game.

Matt needs to hand the OC/play calling job to someone else or he needs to be prepared for Policy to hand the HC job to someone else. It is time Matt.

Imagine if this team had a poor defense. These last 2 games might have been blowouts and we are talking about just how terrible the entire team is. Gute might have saved his job with the Parsons trade and having Hafley as DC (for now).

I can't imagine anyone saying that Parsons has not been good. He has made this defense immensely better. Hard to understand why Hafley did not adjust last week when the panthers were running all over us.
