Mariners win in 15! What a game!
Yeah and the sentiment prior to the series was that the Mariners would almost certainly sweep. Consensus predictions were for a Philly/Seattle WS. Guess the Dodgers had something to say about that, and the Mariners either were sleep walking to the Tigers found their early-season form.

This is the best time of year for baseball, in October.

I do wish it had been a little more convincing - but, I'll take it. Next up: The Usual Los Angeles Best Team Money Can Buy.

Did anyone notice how many times TBS replayed Suzuki's homer in the 2nd throughout the first 5 innings, I mean it was like it was on loop. Contreras' homer in the first? It was like it never happened and the TBS crew just assumed that the Cubs had "spotted" the Crew a first inning run. I imagine it's really going to be skewed against the Crew by the networks against that team of All-Stars and future Hall of Famers.:whistling:
No doubt. TBS was drooling over the "second-best club money can buy" - da Cubs. I don't expect much will change when the Brewers host the "best club money can buy" Dodgers.

I think the Brewers matched up well with the Dodgers this season. Hope that continues for another week or so.

I like your confidence, Poker....but one game, one series at a time. They still need to get past the Dodgers, just to get there. I like the Brewers chances in this series, but it's going to be a battle, with the star power LA has.
Agreed. The Cubs and Dodgers are loaded with talent because they can afford it.

Milwaukee in the WS will be a nightmare for broadcasters. Or maybe not - it always seems the same teams get to the WS - years ago it was the Astros. So maybe there will be some curiosity from fans who never heard of Milwaukee.

I know the Cubs are a team to be respected, but this series came way too close at so many times and in so many ways that my confidence is at a rather cautious level ATM.

On to Monday, when we entertain the Dodgers. Who I think are a better team than the Cubs.

Their pitchers will have had 2 more days of rest than ours, and the Ohtani factor is potentially enormous. He's the closest thing MLB has ever seen to a Michael Jordan. He alone could very easily be enough to create a 1-game swing in the series, and we don't have a single player we can even come close to saying that about.
Sparky Anderson once said " It does not say how you win, it just says you must win. " And Reggie Jackson also said, " You do not have to play your best, you just have to do what you must to get it done. " Now that is the case in short series. I think it could apply to the Packers as well.

October Madness. Maybe the best time of the year for professional sports from a fan perspective. Dodgers are still the defending champs until they officially are dethroned. Two very exciting series to go.

The networks want ratings, and the large market teams bring in the Bengimins... and it's all about the $$$. MLB and the NBA hate the little guy.

That's where the NFL is different, in that aspect. It doesn't matter who makes the Super Bowl, it's 1 game, and people will watch regardless who's in it.

Then you have the NHL, which is it's own animal, it's a small market in the sports world. If you like hockey, which I do, you will watch, but it honestly isn't breaking any ratings barriers, regardless what teams are playing.

David VS Goliath!

Not that it will influence the outcome at all, but I think unless you are a Dodgers or Cubs fan, you will be pulling for the Cinderella Team to go to the World Series. The Brewers will have a lot of fans from all over wanting them to knock off Goliath!

Just pretend that Uecker is out there in the front row. He can tells us if they miss the tag even without replay.

Facts!! A Toronto vs Milwaukee World Series would be nice for travel purposes. I personally would prefer a Seattle vs Milwaukee matchup, with of course the Brewers coming out on top. Regardless which of those two teams wins, it will be the 1st World Series Championship in either of the respective teams history, plus with Milwaukee being established through the Seattle Pilots franchise, that is just a cool back story. I also feel Seattle would be an easier foe than Toronto, for the Brewers, however both will be formidable opponents. Hopefully the Brewers can continue their regular season dominance of the Dodgers this year in this next series.

First I heard this, pretty cool and it worked!

"The power of friendship."

For much of the season, the Brewers have said that the reason for their unexpected success (in the eyes of those outside of Milwaukee) is because of the power of friendship and how much the players genuinely care for and play for each other.

The slogan was first uttered by Megill early in the season, around late May, when the Brewers started to turn their season around following a slow start.

I think they'll have to get more timely hits to beat the dodgers. Get on base more.

At the end of the day does it matter?

Not saying this is you, but this is something that crops up all the time. "Ya they won.. buuuuuuuut... (insert reason to deflate reason for happiness). People just don't want to be excited or happy about anything and need to temper it. Maybe it is a social media driven thing because it sure isn't limited to sports stuff. Probably a way digger psychological dive than I want to do at 11AM on a Brewers thread, but I'm still perplexed by it.

I agree wholeheartedly. The only good thing with convincingly winning, is a blowout is better on the fans nerves, but in the end, a win is a win.

Just like today, a blowout win over the Bengals would be nice, but if they win 17-14, it's still a win, and right now, we need to stack wins, doesn't matter by how much. Wins get you to the Playoffs, anththat's when the real season starts.

My gurgling was meant to reference the entire series .. not just game 5. The two games prior to last night gave me pause.

At least with this series my nerves will be solely focused on winning and not the added win to beat the Cubs emotion attached to it.

That's a good point. While there are some Cubs' fans on here, I'm not one of them. So sending this highly-compensated rival home early was terrific.

The Brewers have played well against the Dodgers this year. But the Dodgers, like any championship bb team, play their best in October. My concern is with the Brewers' starting pitching. Fortunately, it looks like the bullpen is healthier, and Miz did well under the brightest lights, and Megill did the same. Hopefully that helps the team relax a bit and play their style of baseball.

Funny you should say this. After the Bengal game, I texted my brother "A win is a win" - better than a L or T.

Do the Packers have to play better? Absolutely. I don't know what happened to that team that handily beat the Lions and Commanders - but please come back!

In the meantime - Go Brewers!

Well said. I'd love it if the Brewers won the WS. At the same time, nothing can take away toe joy in sending the overpaid rival Cubs packing. I want the run to continue, but will take time to savor some big moments on the way.

Agreed. Especially with the starting pitching being questionable, the Brewers have to get back to their baseball - a lot of hits, a lot of long innings. It was ironic that they beat the Cubs with 3 HRs, as that is not their strength.

Getting past the "first-postseason playoff loss blues" - especially against the rival Cubs, should help loosen the team up. It's obvious but when they play relaxed they get a lot of hits.

This is ironic because in the past, pitching has been solid but offense has been weak. Not now. These guys can put up a lot of runs fast. Looking forward to this series with the Dodgers.

Alex Faust and Ron Darling are just awful announcers, IMO. Unfortunately, I see that Darling will still be in the booth for this series, but Brian Anderson and Jeff Francoeur I believe will be the main voices, a much better pair of announcers and TBS's "A Team".

No Brandon Woodruff for this series. They are still dangling the idea that he might be ready for the World Series, but I think its just time to put the idea of having him behind us.

It sounds like Quintana is getting the start tonight and Freddie will pitch game 2.
