WHAT happened to this team? Swing at everything? In the NFL terms its like a 40 yard pass when its 3rd & 1

And the crowd - if they are not on camera they are glued to the seats?! What does Home Field advantage mean?!

Yes. Nothing wrong with Homeruns. That said when you get off course go back to the last thing that brought you success. That’s getting hits. The Runs will come naturally as you get on base. 5 hits often = 2 Runs. However it also sets up your bigger hitters for that 3-4 RBI type swing. It also wears out you opposing Pitcher as they get in a trick bag by wearing out their arm by the 5/6th inning. You just can’t let 1 man (Yamamoto) run through you for 9 straight innings with some pitches still left in the tank

And 5 hits in 2 games equals 2 runs in 2 games. The pitching was certainly good enough to win game 1, and Peralta did his job last night. The bats are dead, dead, deadski, as Beetlejuice would say.

Well it's miracle time. They have to find a way to win 2 in LA. No small task.

I do wish that MLB and the NBA has a cap structure similar to the NFL. Players are almost always gonna prefer big markets for sponsorship opps, but the biggest sponsorship deals are national anyway (Mahomes/State Farm, for one).

There's not much point to playing so many regular season games if the wealthiest teams are always gonna be on top. Start the playoffs in September, at least.
That is what made me less interested in baseball over the last 30-40 years. The NHL has a good salary cap. Teams cannot buy their way to a championship. They may get one player or two but that is all. Jerry Jones would be a George Steinbrenner if he could.

Seeing articles claiming this series will make the salary cap come to reality end of 26 season with new bargaining comes up
Your post inspired me to crack open the Google, and I learned quite a bit. I think this is an interesting article....

On the day of Scott's signing, MLB Trade Rumors ran a two-question poll for its readers. The first asked: "Do you want a salary cap in the next MLB CBA?" After more than 35,000 votes, the results -- however skewed by the frustration over the Dodgers' spending and use of deferred money -- were overwhelming: 67.2% said yes. The second question painted an even darker portrait: If it meant the implementation of a cap, 50.2% of respondents said they were willing to lose the 2027 season
I think there will be a lockout. I believe the owners are prepared to draw a line in the sand this time, and the players will ultimately have no choice. This unbalanced payroll structure is no longer sustainable, and will seriously damage the game if it's not corrected at some point. I would think that any objective person would understand that, and I think this is the point of no return.

The time is now; I don't think it can be kicked down the road any further without significantly harming MLB.

One can only hope, but I doubt it happens. With 162 games on the schedule, a large market like LA rakes in most of their money via TV revenues. They and other big market teams aren't going to want to share something that they haven't had to forever. While a portion of revenue is shared, some teams have long-term, individual local TV deals that can be worth significantly more than the average shared revenue.

The simple answer to "what is happening to the Brewers?" is this. They have faced 2 of the best pitchers in Baseball, back to back. Both Pitchers also had probably their best games of the season. Throw in the fact that the Dodgers 9 other players are all very well paid and at least 5-6 of them would be the best player on most teams and you have your answer.

There really is only one way that the Brewers can pull this series out. The Brewers themselves play their best baseball and the Dodgers, play their worst. Sad to say, but this is almost like what the Olympics used to look like, pre-professionals, at least from the U.S.

I read what Yeli had to say after last night's disappointment. He basically said Yamamoto was disguising his splitter and changeup well. They looked like a fast ball leaving his hand. I recall we chased this pitcher out in the 1st inning in LA season earlier this year. We've been a pretty decent road team this year. Perhaps a change in venue will get the bats going...

Until the MLB wises up and creates a hard cap like the NFL, this will always be the case. If the opposite happened and the NFL allowed unlimited spending, the Packers would quickly become the doormat of the league.
Agreed. Contending MLB teams are still constructed with a lot of money, and that obviously varies by market size.

Pete Rozelle had the right idea to introduce parity with the salary cap in the NFL. Without it, as you note, Green Bay would be the doormat of the league, if it could assemble a team at all.

Players can still try to play for a team in a market with more sponsorship deals. But it seems like the big sponsorship deals are national anyway - I'm thinking of State Farm and Mahomes, Rodgers, et. al. - so even location isn't that important.

And I think this is one reason the NFL is so popular. Sure, a football game is a lot more exciting than baseball or soccer. But fans stay tuned in (and advertisers love that) because they know their team is or could soon be competitive. OK, Cleveland is an exception......

And on the flip side, this makes MLB playoffs and the WS afterthoughts. I can't count the years the Yankees and then Astros dominated the playoffs. It's gotten a little better - but look at the last four standing - Seattle, Toronto, LA, and Milwaukee. It is a credit to Brewers' ownership and management/coaching.

When you keep trotting guys out there that can't hit you're setting yourself up for failure!!!! Ortiz and Frelick never should have been allowed to play tonight!!!! Why wait until half way thru this game to pull Ortiz?? He was batting .125 before this game!!! Frelick is just as bad, neither one of them belong in the big leagues!!!!!

TONIGHT the crew turns this thing around and makes it respectable.
I don't recall a team swinging at more breaking pitches off the plate than the Crew did these last 3 games. Turang and Yeli were about as potent at hitting as pitchers used to be before the NL went with the DH. The only bright spot in this series was the performance of Miz tonight. What a sad way to end a season. :(

Turang and Yeli were no better. NOBODY could hit. We made the Dodgers pitching staff look like Cy Young clones.

True, however, it's been going on with Frelick, and especially Ortiz, well before this series! Perkins and Collins should have played more.

Who do you play at Short stop then?

While it would be awesome to have 9 sluggers batting, you still have to play defense. Ortiz is a really good shortstop. His only replacement, Andruw Monasterio, hasn't played in a single postseason game for a reason.

Replace Frelick? Again, with who? Who on the team has his speed, arm, and batted .288 this season?

You mentioned replacing them both with Perkins and Collins. Both are outfielders, so that wouldn't work. Perkins is batting .216 and Collins is 0-7 in the postseason.

@Pugger was correct when she said:
The Tigers just went through the same issue, the bats all went cold aside for a couple hitters. Unfortunate at this point of the season, but you hope your hitters break through, sometimes all it takes is one clutch hit to do it. Sometimes I feel it's the pressure of the moment, trying to do too much. Not being there, like the Dodgers are every year can do that. They have that swagger of being in that position every year

Yup. You have 162 games to figure out who your best players are to start and come off the bench. The team did just fine for those 162 games and against the Cubs in the first series. However, when you run into Ace Starters like the Dodgers have and those Ace starters decided to throw their best game of the season, not much you can do.

Reminds me of that Dodger staff in 1963 that shutdown the powerful bats of the Yankees.
