Uggg.....WTF is going on around here? Suddenly, the injury bug decides to hit the Brewers?

And Henderson is even pitching today!

Fun Fact:

The Brewers are the first team to score 16 runs in a game in four different road ballparks in the same season since 1939

The Nats are probably happy that they don't see the Brewers again this year. That was a beat down series for the Crew.

3 Games:

Brewers:

Hits:56
Runs:38
Errors:0

Nats:

Hits:26
Runs: 14
Errors:6

In the 3 game series, the Nats only had 1 "clean" inning...which is retiring all 3 batters in an inning. In other words, the Brewers had men on base in 26 of 27 innings.

Take away that 5 run 9th inning for the Nats in Game 1 and this was just almost a perfect series for the Crew.

Really bad news about Chourio. If he got a PRP injection I'm assuming he injured a knee. Is that right?

I'm going to be the optimist here when it comes to the injuries. Hopefully, all of them are short term and the Brewers will head into the stretch run and the playoffs fully healthy and playing great. I mean they are playing great right now, despite the injuries, but they need all hands on deck when it comes to taking down the Dodgers, Phillies, Mets, Padres and perhaps, the Cubbies.

Meanwhile these injuries are allowing for Murph to insert backups and get a feeling for what they can do. Not to mention the valuable game time those backups are getting in the big leagues.

I don't want to jinx things, but Yelli has been unusually healthy and because of it, having a solid year. I hope Murph gives him some time off as they near the end of the regular season.

Another thing about the Brewers this season, they aren't doing this with smoke and mirrors or luck.

On Offense, they are getting on base a lot, being smart on the base paths and successfully playing a lot of small ball. They don't hit for a lot of power, nor are they even close to the leaders in triples and doubles.

- Brewers lead the NL in OBP at .330, which is just slightly less than the Jays MLB best OBP at .334

- Brewers are tied (with Astros) for 2nd best Team batting average (.257)

- 2nd in stolen bases (124)

- 5th in runs scored (555)

- 7th in hits

- 11th in BB

- 9th in fewest strikeouts

Brewer Pitching/Defense Hasn't been off the charts, but it has been very solid and definitely above average.

- Team WHIP of 1.24, which is 9th best in the majors.

-4th in ER given up (401), as well as 4th in ERA (3.66)

- 5th in lowest opponent batting average (.232)

- 8th in Strike Outs

- 12th in BB

- 10th in HR's surrendered

The Brewers fielding has improved as the season has progressed. Currently, they are 13th in the league in errors per game (.48). They were at .60 at the end of May.

All in all, this is a very well balanced team, that doesn't rely on the long ball or just a handful of players to win. Nor are they relying on shutdown starting pitchers. I gotta say, I am really liking this team.

It's truly remarkable how they clawed their way from the cellar to the best record in baseball this year.

Their first 46 games, they went 21-25, .465. On May 8th, they beat the Baltimores 5-2, and in the 3 months since then, they've played .712 ball - 47-19. If they'd played at that pace all year, and continued all the way through the season, they'd finish as one of only three teams in MLB history to win 115 games.

As it is, they're on pace to finish 103-59, .640. Which (considering the way they started out) would be amazing if they can keep it up.

We're seeing something special here. I don't know how long it can last, because the chances that they can maintain that pace for the last 50 games are slim. But right now, they're playing some of the best baseball in the history of the franchise.

It would have been so easy for them to fold in May, at 21-25, to lose hope and motivation. But they refused to take the easy way out. They believed in themselves, and they believed in one another, and they fought their way back.

I don't want to jinx them, but this is starting to feel like a storybook season, a charmed season.

At least it's not an arm injury. That was my first fear when I saw that he was on IL.
But how the hell does a pitcher suffer a "deep contusion to the tibia"?

Brewers fattened up on the Braves again tonight, 7-2. 5 games over .500 now, and 4 games up on the Cubs, who lost to Cincinnati.

Brewers have been playing .800 ball over the last 30 games now. Absolutely white-hot going into the stretch.

More good news for the Crew. Pitcher Shelby Miller, whom they picked up for peanuts at the deadline from the D'backs, had an excellent stint for the Brewers AAA team yesterday. Miller has been rehabbing from a flexor tendon strain.

Miller pitched 1 inning and struck out the side. He threw 10 of 17 pitches for strikes, and his fastball sat in the 95-96 MPH range while maxing out at 97 MPH.

A move that the Brewers made in Dec. shouldn't go unnoticed. They traded away their Ace closer, Devin Williams for Nestor Cortes, Caleb Durbin and cash with the Yankees.

Cortes ended up not having much of an impact and was recently traded for Brandon Lockridge. It is early, but Lockridge has stepped in and has had an immediate positive impact for the Brewers. Caleb Durbin was the prize in that trade. What a rookie year that guy is having.

The bigger news from that trade, Devin Williams has just stunk it up for the Yankees. He got demoted from being their closer and just keeps getting shelled. Williams owns an unsightly 5.44 ERA and has given up as many earned runs as he did in the last three seasons combined with the Brewers. On Monday night, he allowed the game-tying home run that eventually led to an extra-innings loss. He followed that outing up by allowing a go-ahead two-RBI single to Rowdy Tellez in the eighth inning.

One of the main reasons the Brewers traded Williams was that they didn't want to pay him as one of the top closers in MLB. The Brewers had a $10.5M option on him. Williams ended up going to arbitration with the Yankees and got an $8.6M 1 year deal.

The other steal of a deal that the Brewers made was acquiring Quinn Priester from the Red Sox in April. Priester has had a phenomenal season and while I doubt he wins it, good enough to be in the conversation for the Cy Young.

"Priester has posted a 3.15 ERA and a 1.190 WHiP over his 114.1 innings for the Brewers, striking out 93 batters with 38 walks. Opponents have mustered a meager .228/.294/.382 batting line in 471 plate appearances with just 13 homers."

Check out the pitch speed in the lower right corner. It was actually "only" 103.9mph that Mason Miller threw it at. But boy, when you make clean contact with a pitch coming in that fast....439 feet!

The deeper we get into the second half of the season, the more apparent it becomes how well managed this organization is - both on the field, and in the office upstairs. The roster moves the team is making just come up three "7"s time and time again, and it's not luck.

It's easy to see why Matt Arnold was named Executive of The Year last year. He's built the hottest team in baseball with roughly 1/3 of the payroll of the big market teams.

And NL Manager of The Year Pat Murphy seems to have captured lightning in a bottle with that roster. They're 60-44 in their last 104 games (.750), the fastest they've ever gotten 25 games over .500, have the best record in baseball, and tonight will probably be the first MLB team to win 70 games - the first time they've ever done that. This is the best stretch of baseball the Brewers have ever played.

Murphy seems to have the perfect personality and approach for this team. He knows what each player can do, and what they can't do, and he seems to know exactly how to utilize them and how to motivate them. This team has weaknesses (lack of power, for one thing), but Milwaukee is 5th in runs scored despite being 23rd in home runs, 20th in triples, and 25th in doubles. But his players know how to get on base (9th in hits), and they know what to do when they get on base. That's Murphy's doing.

That awful March and first half of April seems like years ago now.

Let's also not forget one of the biggest unprecedented moves that the Brewers made 2 years ago. That move was signing Jackson Chourio to a $82M 8 year deal. As of that date, it was the largest contract given to a player who had not reached the major leagues. I remember it well and some were scratching their heads as to why the Brewers were doing it.

While it might have been a gamble, it has paid off big time. Chourio just turned 21 in March and is one of the Brewers best players.

I watched and listened to the entire Brewer game last night. It was interesting to listen to what the FOX broadcasters were saying about the Brewers. It's like they spent the entire evening trying to say that "the Brewers weren't all that good, but they are", if that makes sense. Maybe like some of us Brewer fans, they just don't want to get overly excited over a team that nobody thought would be in this position or this good?

I was maybe feeling that way a few weeks ago, but now....

I Brewlieve!

The Brewers became the FIRST team in MLB HISTORY to have a road trip (of any length) where they scored 50+ runs, didn't lose a game, and didn't commit a single error.

"Poor" Cubbies.. :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

Kyle Tucker is sputtering. He was the big offseason acquistion for the Cubs. They traded third baseman Isaac Paredes, right-hander Hayden Wesneski and third baseman Cam Smith to get Tucker. Not to mention that he was only on a 1 year deal of $16.5M. There had been talk of the Cubs locking him up to a $441M 11 year deal. I have to wonder if that is still on the table?

Holy cats ... how many times did they review that? Just WOW...

It actually was a pretty quick review. I was listening to it on the radio and Jeff Levering (announcer) right away said "Hold on folks, this is going to be reviewed". Within maybe 20 seconds Levering said, "You can celebrate, we are seeing it up in the booth and that one won't be reversed, he's out."

Guessing they had a much better camera angle to see the tag happened before the runner touched the base.

It was just an excellent throw, catch and tag.

Some thought that the Brewers should have made a trade for a big bat before July 31st. That bat....Eugenio Suárez. The D'Backs were openly shopping him, but were asking a pretty high price in return. I know its only been 10 days, but man, the Brewers probably dodged a bullet there.

"Suárez has gone 2-for-24 since rejoining Seattle. That’s a .083 batting average with 11 strikeouts, and a home run across his first six games. He’s looked out of sync and overmatched, far from the middle-of-the-order threat Arizona was shopping."

Kind of like the Packers with their OL, the Brewers have a lot of moving parts, with players being able to play several positions. I think it was a smart move not to give up future talent for the franchise, just to rent a bat for the remainder of 1 season.

This is an excellent roster that the Brewers have assembled, top to bottom. As long as they get a few guys back and healthy and don't suffer any major injuries, look out, this may be the year for the Crew to win a World Series!
