You know what...MAJOR DUD possibly:

Not dressing Nazir Stackhouse....zero issues during the week and than just didn't play - a seemingly healthy scratch. Now if he was ill or something and we don't know I get...but Stackhouse not playing seems crazy dumb.
They chose to play the new dude from the Giants PS (Riley?). Maybe felt his experience was a better option.

Studs
Love-shook off a bad read and throw; owned up to it and called some great audibles.
Jacob’s-a horse. Got most of his yards on his own.
receivers- no drops, even played defender well when they had to
Oline pass protection- for the most part pretty good.
MLF- for getting on Nixon’s case. It was justified
Nixon - for being a man who made a mistake, closing his mouth after that and then became a hammer on D plus using his veteran experience to come off his man and cover a wide open tight end on his interception.

Duds
Oline’s run blocking. The Bears have been giving up a lot of rushing yards but we struggled with a lot of 0-3 yd gains. Most of Jacob’s yards became after contact.

Pass Defense- this was the biggest dud of the day for me. Hafley, Ansley, and Downard and the dbacks need to get their act together. You have to do more than play a zone and say catch it and we’ll tackle you. The man to man coverage is deplorable. The Bears should have run misdirection passing plays all game. Guys were wide open all over the place on those plays with most of our guys standing around like statues. This was coverage a high school coach would be #issed about and this is the NFL! Go back and watch those misdirection pass plays. This was terrible pass coverage at any level. If Nixon doesn’t see that TE going down the field all alone, cut off his guy and drop to make the interception, the Bears are going for two and a win. It was that close to a loss. Also need dbacks that are willing to tackle because it seems like some of them are backing off waiting for others to do the tackling.
Your point about our D is right on. Earlier in the year I would say our D was suffocating opponents. In the past few games it seems like they are playing much softer, giving up a number of first downs when they had oppoents at 3rd and long, and Im not talking about 3rd and 7 or 8 , more like 3rd and double digits.
This is much like using the prevent defense when you are trying to hold onto a lead late in the game. Just drop everyone into coverage and let the QB stand back there with no pressure while he gets a shave and a haircut until he finds an open receiver. It never works. You cant cover every inch of the field. What does work is forcing the QB to have to get rid of the ball quickly.

I can't help wondering if the absence of Wyatt and Van Ness has forced Hafley to play a less aggressive game.

If you are correct, I get that .Adjustments have to be made, back up resources need to be evaluated as to what we can and cant do.
Having said that I feel we still need to pick our spots when we should turn on the juice. Not necessarily on every play, but certainly on 3rd and long where we are on the verge of making a stop. we do have a monster disrupter on defense so we want to force the QBs hand, make him uncomfortable, cause him to have to get rid of the ball quickly. Dont give him time to find a receiver who found a whole in a sit back zone defense, because there will be plenty of wholes to find.

We also need to be aware of Nix's ability and I think love of running.

Absolutely, we faced one of those galloping QBs last week vs the bears. Williams is very fast and can probably out run most of our defenders. He saved a lot of plays for them, So we do have recent experience with that kind of offense. Maintaining your assigned edge coverage will be very important.

One of my concerns is how will our guys do playing in that high altitude environment
Not something that you can easily practice for.
Our D got pretty worn out last week vs bears.

I wonder if practicing in N95 masks would help with conditioning?
Now there's an idea......

I dont know what our final injury list will look like but IM guessing we will have to employ a high substitution rate on defense if denver is able to sustain several long drives. The more 3 and outs we can get on them much better for us. Hopefully hafley has an idea or 2 up his sleeve.

So, they ought to let DBs mug (fill in the name of a great WR) because he can get open so easily?
Its funny you mention DBs. I saw a report on either NFLN or ESPN that back it the day the seachicken DBs got away with mugging WRs. Once the refs starting flagging them their defense was no longer the Legion of Boom.
