Yepp well in my book he would deserve it. :)
I dont think apart from the last couple of mins the German keeper had to do anything, Both through now anyways 1-0 German win. Does anybody in the US know or care about how well their team have done thats the question......:cautious:
I hope so. Everybody was talking about wether it would be Portugal or Ghana to make it to the Knockout round behind Germany and now its the USA. More than well done !

You are too kind nessie. Sports is weird that way. The Chargers needed several horseshoes inserted up their rear ends last season to make the playoffs. Then they go and beat the Bungles.

Klinsmann has done a good job. The USA is now more competitive at this level. But they are going through on the strength of Germany's demolition of Portugal. It is not undeserved, but still somewhat fortunate. The opposite could be said of a better side like the Bosnians. They just had shet luck.

I will offer congrats to Meestor Bundesbier. He is a good guy and a dedicated fan.

Agree Sandolf, of course they were fortunate because of our 4-0 against Portugal but a team that beats Portugal and nearly won against Ghana surely deserves it to make it to the next round. And in my opinion they will even have a chance against Belgium. Not very convincing what I've seen by Belgium so far.
What do you think about the African teams? Im surprised and disappointed that they have made a step backwards.
And of course I'd like to join in the congratulations to Bundesbiers, hope he celebrates his team today ! Go USA ! ;)
Btw - impressive pictures on German TV about Viewing parties in the USA !

I'll offer you my theory nessie. I think in order to win... you have to have "the guy". My feeling is that Norv Turner is one of the greatest offensive game planners the NFL has ever seen. If either Cassell, Ponder or Bridgewater turn out to be "the guy"... Packer fans are going to see something they haven't seen for awhile. When their "guy" was out last year, I read some world class doom and gloom moaning in here.

I can't remember an African team with "the guy" since Roger Milla played for Cameroon. You could send Winnie Schaefer down there... you could send Sven Goran Eriksson. It didn't seem to make much difference. Ivory Coast looked to be very promising despite Drogba being a little past it. I was thinking Yaya Toure could be "the guy". Except he wasn't. He had the match on his boot, and instead of putting it away, he let a pretender like Samaras be "the guy". Still... they are a better side than the USA. Bundesbiers is hoping a reserve player from Sunderland can be "the guy".

Without Suarez, Uruguay are toast. Argentina have "the guy". Arguably the best one. Germany have Mueller. Neymar is looking like he is "the guy". Van Persie is likely up to the task. That is what I think it takes to win. In club football the season is long. In these tournaments "the guy" has to step it up and seize the moment.

Thanks for the congrats you two.

It was quite a gut wrenching day yesterday. I predicted we would lose 2-1 to the Germans and just hoped that arrogant *** from Portugal wouldn't throw a game to the Ghanians. Thankfully, Portugal won by one and secured us on to the next round.

Now, we can decompress from the Group stage collect ourselves and prepare for the Belgians.

Thats going to be a toughie Bund, Belgium are a class outfit with a mean defence, but who knows what can happen in football. ;)

Yeah, they have a lot of quality players no doubt, and if we play like we played against Germany, we are in deep trouble.

We have to keep better possession of the ball.

Here's some interesting stats:

3 out of 4 CONCACAF teams (75%) qualified for the knockout stage.
5 out of the 6 CONMEBOL teams (83%) of South American teams (CONMEBOL) qualified for the knockout stages
All 4 Asia teams were knocked out (maybe they should have less automatic entries???)
Less than half of the European teams qualified for the knockout stage.
The African teams also failed to impress as only 2 out of the 5 qualified for the knockout stage.

Interesting stats allrite and pretty much the going rate, european teams dont do as well in South America and its the same in reverse. The USA also perform badly in Europe for whatever reasons but in Japan/Korea, Brazil, South Africa, and at home etc they do much better. South American teams are at home tourney really so they are always pretty good. Surprised at the Africans not doing so well though.

I`d like the Uroguayans to win this so that "COUNT DRACULA" loses out big time with no medal.

I'd laugh me cotton socks off if Brazil got the old heave ho. :D

Your cotton socks are safe... barely. :D

Wow, what a game. I am gad neither team sat back and waited for things to happen. We had end to end action right away.

Quite exciting for the first knockout game.

I think no need to be scared in case we are playing them in the half-final.

I think so nessie Germany could take them, Brazil seem dis-jointed somehow.

Edit : Columbia look pretty useful, Brazil would be foolish to underestimate them in the Quarters.
