What does this mean, no more Clay Matthews playing on the line like a pseudo DE anymore. You have three guys in Jones Neal and Peppers who can function as hybrid DE/OLBs which leaves Clay to finally man the LT role that he always destined to dominate in.

Well, I certainly am not one of those people that was clamoring for a signing, but I was hoping we might bring in a few guys at a reasonable price to help fill holes. This signing, however, seems a bit daffy to me. Not totally on board, but welcome to Green Bay nonetheless, Mr. Peppers.

The contract specifics will be organization friendly. It looks like a one year stop gap insurance play to me. I think Ted will try to trade Peppers during the 2015 draft to a dummy org like Washington, Dallas, cleveland or Buffalo.

Interesting note: Peppers has played all 16 games every year except 2.

So all the fans like me who had been whining about not utilizing free agency to assemble talent, hmm, jeez, perhaps we had a point????

No. If TT had listened to some of our idiot fans we would still be suffering from the contracts of Haynesworth and others.

Perhaps its the whinners who owe an apology to TT for saying he ignores FA when clearly he does not.

Utterly shocked at this signings. Peppers is an elite talent, but he has a history of lack of motivation at times. I am very leary of this signing, but one thing is certain. Peppers has never been on a team as talented at this one with as much SB potential. Maybe that will crank up the motivation.

As far as where he plays, I assumed he would be at the 5T position not the OLB. Not sure we should be running an experiment like this with an old guy for as much money as we are spending - if it indeed is OLB. I was thinking he was in the 285# range. Thats getting pretty big for a OLB.

Why? We have to use up some of our cap space somehow...

As I've posted repeatedly there's no rule forcing teams to spend a certain amount of the cap space for a single season.

While it seems like the Peppers deal will be cap friendly in 2014 that also means it will count $5 million in dead money against the cap for a player no longer on the team.

This is not a smart move, that sounds like a desperate one.

I like the deal now that I have seen the structure. It is basically a series of 1 year deals. His production did dip last year, but not as bad as Ware's did and look at Ware's contract. Plus he has been far more healthy than Ware. We now have a DL group of Peppers, Jones, Daniels, Worthy, Raji, and Boyd, I think that is pretty decent rotation. I would like to see them bring back Jolly (pending medical clearance) on a 1 year deal to play in the goalline and backup at NT, plus he adds a little nasty. We would be smaller and faster up front with this group which is what I think MM is looking to do. I think that is a pretty decent DL group.

I don't like the signing, even though I like the player.

Spraypaintedhair (Capers) has been misusing everyone in the defensive front for 3 years running now - what makes anyone think he'll suddenly figure out how to use the pieces he's been given??

His "go-to" defense is the 2-4; plays it more than any team in the league - where does Capers fit in the 2-4?? If Capers fits in the 2-4, that means that one or more of D. Jones, Perry, and Daniels will be camping on the sideline - neverminding the fact that the 2-4 has been nothing but a disaster anyway.

This signing just smacks of more misuse of talent by Capers. We have one of the worst defenses in the league, but I think we have a talented defense in terms of players - that means the finger is squarely pointed at Spraypaintedhair.

2011: 11
2012: 11.5
2013: 7.5

Sack total past 3 years. It's not like the guy is dead.

Those are more then solid number and he started pretty much every game. He still commands double teams. This is a huge addition. "Peppers and Claymaker on one side should be illegal." D-line with Raji moving to nose looks way better then last year already. Let's hope Datone Jones can make some strides. With Daniels also developing it's getting exciting.

You gotta account for injuries and different packages Capers can run now. The seahawks rotated 7 D-lineman during the game. Makes a big difference in the 4th qtr.

Things I like about the signing

1. The structure of the contract. Its not brutal
2. Low risk
3. We hurt the bears and helped ourselves by signing peppers

Things I dont like
1. He isnt a perfect fit for the defense as we know it today. This could change though.
2. I would have preferred a DT or S.

Good points. McCarthy and Capers have already said defensive scheme is going to be different this year. Were still probably going to see some base 3-4 but I am expecting some different stuff as well.

Plus he brings the veteran presence that even Clay himself expressed that the team needed. Datone Jones is going to have a great example in front of him to look up to.

I heard Herm Edwards say Peppers played about 800 snaps last season and he expects that number to be cut about in half. He expects him to be a pass rushing specialist. My guess is he'll play more than that but even if he's standing up I don't expect him to be in coverage much at all. His forte is rushing the passer. Fewer snaps should certainly help his productivity.

First, calling Capers names reflects more on you than it does on him. Second, how in hell can you accuse Capers of misusing a player he hasn’t coached? Capers looked a lot smarter in 2009 and 2010 than he has since; why do you suppose that is?
