Hafley is gone. Hate too see him go, but he did much better in year 1 than year 2. Not sure what the trajectory was there.

But who is going to be the replacement.

I have 3 names on my list.

Jim Schwartz
Raheem Morris
Jim Leonard

There are a few others, but I hope these 3 should be at the top of the list. In which order, I keep flipping back and forth.

Schwartz had so much success in Cleveland. Morris always seemed to develop a lot of players. Leonard is a hometown favorite who always seemed to achieve and is well loved by his players.

Then there is Al Harris and Deronte Jones from Minnesota. There are probably a few more out there. And I never considered Hafley, mostly because I never heard of him, when we hired him.

I hope we act fast as these guys are going to get snapped up as the HC positions get filled.

I like Schwartz because he has some pent up feelings to beat the rest of our division.

I would love to see Brian Flores over here. A hire like that would do a lot to dispel the notion that it’s going to be same old status quo at Lambeau.

I don’t know if he’s getting much head coach buzz or not. If so might be tough to convince to make a largely “lateral” move. But maybe you can Bisaccia and convince Flores to come be DC and assistant HC lol

I would be really happy with Al Harris too honestly. He’s basically got Chicago DBs having career best years down there

Interesting. Eberflus was terrible last season, ranking #32 in scoring allowed.

Although he did perform more than respectable at Indianapolis for 4 seasons. Ranking just inside the top 10 Defenses in 3 of 4 seasons. #10,#9,#18,#10

I would’ve been a lot more excited to get Leonhard though. I also think Bobby Babich could be a good DC. He has the perigee and he’s been around success most of his coaching career. I was interested in him when we hired Hafley.

Can't believe that Vikings would allow the Packers to even get permission. But if so, yeah, I would be on board with it.

After looking at the backgrounds of all the potential DCs mentioned, and those that we're aware of the Packers showing interest, one thing came to mind. None of them really would fit into the defensive system we're presently using, so that means the team is going to pretty much scrap everything and start over. Is that a good idea at this point, or is it only a question of getting one or two players into the fold who can help upgrade the system we're using?

If they get the wrong guy, it won't matter if we ever see Parsons back on the field because the defense will be a joke. Just curious as to what others think.

I think these coaches are more flexible than that. Hafley was a 3-4 guy but felt a 4-3 would fit the Packer's talent better. Maybe getting a 4-3 guy would be an improvement. We have 2 guys who have been DC on staff who could be promoted. I would bet that Hafley will want to take some of his staff to Miami and one of those 2 will be his DC.

His contract is up at the end of the season
That's interesting. Can't believe they wouldn't have extended him unless he wanted to move. Quality of life? I would put him with the elites at the top of the list. He does a tremendous job for the Vikings.

Just like I said before we swapped from 3-4 to 4-3, it wouldn’t matter that much.

You’re gonna spend most of your time in nickel 4-2 or 2-4 (and with the same personnel in either case). The secondary is the same.

We don’t currently have a NT on the roster, but most 4-3s use one anyway, just at 1T rather than 0T. And even then, plenty of 3-4s use a shaded nose. And we’d benefit from getting one in either scheme.

If we have a hole, don’t think we have an optimal LOLB. I’d prefer to keep Parsons at ROLB as it should mean less dropping and less TEs when in base. LVN is a little bit of a tweener, maybe he’d be a LE in our next 3-4. If it were to happen.

Packers are interviewing Christian Parker from the Eagles. He is the DBs coach and has a great track record with developing Quinyon Mitchel and Cooper DeJean into a top CB duo. MLF worked with him when he was with the Packers coaching staff his first two years in GB. I dont really remember him.

Seems like it could be a good hire. He is young (34) and was involved with a lot of success.

McDermott has to be called and see if he'd consider a DC role or is he only interviewing for HCs. Worth interviewing and seeing if a fit.

Did Hafley introduce a new D system when he arrived 2 years ago? I can't recall...

If an assistant is offered a position from another team that is a promotion I don't think that candidate's present team can prevent him from moving on.
In this case it doesn't matter. Flores is essentially a "free agent" coach because his contract expired last week. The Vikings tried to extend it before the season but it sounds like Flores wanted to know his true market value.

I've also heard Antonio Pierce's name as a possibility for the Packers DC job. While he is short on DC experience, he has HC experience and the fire that we need.

Not entirely correct.

The only promotion you cannot block a coach from is "head coach." All other positions are considered "assistant coaches" and the same tier. You have a 24 year old on a 2 year deal as "assistant to the assistance offensive quality control coach" and some other team wants to interview him for OC? You can block it.

In general, you shouldn't block that move. It'll hurt your hiring profile for future assistants.
