Even Jesus got chased out of Nazareth.
Luke 4:16 I believe. Went so far as to try to kill him. So much for being a hometown boy. Many people have a problem with accepting anything that doesn't fit into a small box of their personal perspective.

I would have been fine with Leonard, I believe he has been very successful at every opportunity he has had.

Tough to not be excited for what Gannon brings. He was very highly regarded as a DC before his HC gig.

I highly appreciated Hafley for his outstanding leadership. He communication was elite and has really good Xs and Os. I think he will be an even better HC than a DC.

Gannon is elite with his Xs and Os. With the right positional coordinators, which I believe he has, he can be a much better DC than a HC.

And Barry really excelled at . . err ah, did okay with . . . well I understand he had a really good chili recipe.

This comment got my day off to a great start with a great riff on JB. As a chili chef, he finally is good at something.

Like many I suppose, I have mixed emotions on Leonhard v Gannon. I think there was too much baggage for Leonhard, clearly a very proud man. Also a great defensive football mind.

I am also pumped by the addition of Gannon. His successful stint in Philly, and his flawed but valuable HC experience. Lombardi could not have helped the hapless Cardinals.

So full speed ahead. He has all the necessary boxes checked and he takes over a talented group. Good for him. Good for GB. Good for us.

No doubt about it, you can't judge Gannon based on what happened in Arizona. That's a snake bitten franchise and has been since the days they were the Chicago Cardinals. They have a rough time coming out of the gate being highly competitive in consecutive years. Being their HC is kind of like being handed the keys to a Yugo and be told you have to prepare it to compete at the Indy 500.

I kind of expected to see most of the Packer defensive coaches to either leave with Hafley or leave for a promotion elsewhere. The 2026 Packer defense will be going through some coaching growing pains in 2026.

How about offensive coaches? Sean Manion (Packers QB coach) left for Philly to become their OC. Nathaniel Hackett was working for the Packers as their "defensive analysist" but is more of an offensive minded guy followed Hafley to Miami as well.

Packers OC Adam Stenavich is interviewing for OC positions elsewhere. I actually would be fine with him leaving, but then who does MLF get to replace him? Has to be sort of frustrating to be an OC for MLF, since he won't let the OC call the plays.

Still waiting to hear about Rich Bisaccia being on a plane out of GB. :whistling:

What about Luke Getsy? He has some experience as an OC.

I'll take a wait-and-see approach with Gannon. He wasn't the fan favorite for sure, but then I remember how some internet experts panned the Jeff Hafley hire, and that turned out pretty well.

Hopefully Gannon is more Hafley than he is Joe Barry.

Luke Getsy is another "interesting" coach for the Packers. Just an odd path of "titles". I seriously think the Packers "in house coaching tree" is part of their problem. Now I am sure they somehow keep track of it amoungst themselves, but it makes me scratch my head. Getsy's titles and time spent with the Packers are in Green.

- Offensive quality control coach (2014-1015)
- Wide receivers coach (2016-2017)

*** 2018 Takes a Break from the Packers and becomes Offensive coordinator & wide receivers coach for Mississippi State.

- Quarterbacks coach (2019)
- Quarterbacks coach & passing game coordinator (2020-2021)

*** 2022-2023 Takes another Break from the Packers and becomes The Bears OC, fired on 1/10/24

***2024 OC for the Raiders but fired on 11/3 so returns to the Packers....

- Defensive consultant (2024)
- Senior offensive assistant (2025)

I'll pass on Luke becoming the Packers OC, he has had 2 cracks at it in the NFL and failed.

Jeff was such a Personable guy. He’ll be sorely missed.

I do like the long term experience Jon Gannon has (I almost said Rich!). I also love the track record of Babich. We’ve got a highly successful Defensive mind working with him. Both have shown signs of recognizing talent and putting them in positions of success. Our own Micah was just 1 of several examples.

As a DC Gannon was given adequate resources. How often to you get to coach Micah Parsons and have a good supporting crew. Evan Williams, Franklin, Cooper and some nice adds to our D front 7 with RD4 Sorrell, RD5 Oliver RD1 Van Ness getting more looks. Then hitting a trio of what I really think are all Day 2 quality draft picks. Cisse, McClellan and Dennis-Sutton.
Gannon really has mostly young players he can mold. That along with some great experience in former Probowler Franklin and All Pro’s McKinney and Parsons. Plus bringing some experience back inside with Hargrave snd Watt.

Well, we probably aren't going to lose him to a HC position anytime soon.

He was really good for the Eagles. Want to listen to the press conference before I judge.
I guess I am free to judge now.

I figured the delay was because they didnt want to put any info out there that may give clues to what type of player the Packers may focus on in the draft. But he was fairly tight lipped about substantive matters.

I believe he will be successful, he has a lot to work with talent wise. Seems to be a very focused cerebral person, creative and flexible. Do I think this will make us a slam dunk top 5 defense? No. But i think we should be top 10 if he is a good DC and top 5 if he is a great DC. I believe he is good but can't say yet just how good.

Those are fair comments. Gannon has said he doesn't have a "scheme" he uses game to game. Rather de deploys the talent he has for maximum effectiveness against an opponent.

That's probably what all DCs and OCs would say. I take Gannon at his word. Hafley was pretty rigid and predictable in the way he called games. He is also a very bright coordinator and was certainly good for the Packers.

Top 5 D this season? I doubt it - not with this CB group. Just a gut feel by me that there are more talent holes on the D than the O.

Even so, I expect the D to finish in the top 10. And maybe the additions to the CB room pay off big time. So what I'm saying is, there's a chance....... ;)

A lot depends on when Parsons gets back. Teams will double him but it allows other players a golden opportunity. If Parsons is back early we could be top 10. If it is mid-season then likely we are middle of the pack and the standings will reflect it.

I at least like this quote from Gannon, "It's not what scheme you play, it's how you play."

It's just like saying it is the musician not the instrument, or the batter not the bat. The proof with Gannon will be in the pudding.

Tell that to the 2025 Packers, expecting Rashan Gary to have a golden opportunity.

Well, before Parsons went down there were defensive players that were making plays due to his presence on the field. But after he was not there that dried up almost completely. Nixon's pick of Caleb was precipitated by trying to get away from Parsons side of the line. In the next two times without Parsons, Caleb had a lot of fun.

I won't dispute that at all. However, if you polled 100 Packers fans I think that you would find that 98 out of 100 expected the other DLs to be more productive with all of the attention paid to Micah. As you stated, the pass rush was almost non-existent when Micah was gone.

Well, that tells us a lot. In other words those DLs were never that good in the first place. And fans were probably fantasizing. The one DL that had a productive history went to Dallas in exchange for Micah.
