Can you please define "Didn't kick them down when we could have"?

Cause im pretty sure we took a 2 TD lead into the 4th quarter and were up 21 points until under the 2 minute mark of the 4th quarter

In terms of studs Parsons Parsons Parsons. The Micah effect was very real and instantly obvious.
Third quarter offense just wasn’t firing the same way is all and that kept the game a game. It’s getting very picking for three duds is why that was said…there is no way flawless continued forever against a good team.

MLF wanted to try and get the run game going. The first drive was 3 runs. In the first half the Packers responded with throws. Having a 17-6 lead MLF was trying to give his D a breather and protect the football and play the field position game. And it worked. The Packers may not have been running the ball well today, but neither were the Lions. And it was clear Detroit could not march done the field in rapid fashion due to our cover 2.

Hard to find a lot to complain about!

Like many I was really impressed with the defense. Even when Micah wasn't playing, the front seven was getting all sorts of pressure. Goff was never comfortable all day and we reduced what many expected to be one of the most explosive offenses in the league to basically check downs only. And of course many had plenty of questions regarding our run defense - and Detroit were expected to continue to have a great rushing attack - but we completely stifled them there, too. And even in limited usage, Parsons provided a pretty clear and immediate impact, and I expect that only gets better as weeks go on.

on the flip side, OUR offensive line ensured Love was clean and comfy all day long. I know myself and many others were pretty concerned about some of our OL depth. They looked great today - IMO even the guys who were getting sub action looked perfectly capable. Really encouraging.

Love looked really, really sharp. Absolutely no signs of lingering injury or any of that. He didn't really "need" to do much later on and wasn't perfect but he continues to show every now and then that special "something" that we invested in.

As far as duds go, if I HAD to pick a few, and I'm being picky here...
I guess mostly I had a few quibbles with minor play calling stuff. I remember one sequence where we were rolling pretty good, had a third and short and for whatever reason decided to trot out a Savion Williams direct snap up the gut. Feel like MLF just can't resist getting cute from time to time lol.
Annoying to give up a late TD, but whatever. the coverage was good, just a freakish play from TeSlaa.
Kind of sloppy (penalties) on ST.

overall an extremely encouraging performance!

Campbell said the Packer D plays to keep everything in front which took away big shots. To counter that you run the ball or throw crossing patterns. The Lions ran for only 2.1 per carry. And the Packers forced Goff to throw short and quickly. The red zone stops and INT were crucial.

STUDS

1. Micah Parsons. He elevated the entire defense; what a truly great player is expected to do. Not only did he get a sack, at least one more was thanks to him because he was double-teamed.

2. Coaching staff. They had this team ready to play (moreso than any time in years, IMO), and gave them an excellent game plan to execute.

3. Evan Williams. That drive-killing red zone interception was a thing of beauty; perfect example of reading the quarterback and sitting on the route.

DUDS

1 Tony Romo. What the hell is a "tuddie"? It's like he's been hanging out with Valley girls.

2. Matt LaFleur. Minor one here, but jesus, that razzle dazzle play with Savion Williams? Why? You could say that maybe he just wanted a chance to evaluate it, but now every team in the league is aware of it, and the linebackers will be watching for it whenever he lines like that. If you absolutely insist on installing it, fine, go for it. But be prudent about when you decide to run it.

3. That was all I got.

Now are D has to prepare for a QB more like Jackson or Hurts. He can hurt you in a different way than Goff.

Edgerrin Cooper was another guy who had a really nice game. 12 tackles, all over the field. He processes and reacts very quickly.

The other bright spot was Tackling. It wasn't an issue at all for the whole team, one of the best games I've seen in that aspect in who knows how long.

Super well said.

Does anyone in here think that Detroit scores a TD with :55 seconds left had the last drive been a Tie game? We hold them to two field goals across 3/4+13 minutes but suddenly they get a touchdown inside a minute? We allowed them anything short middle of field that would chew clock. Also the helmet slap after the play should’ve been -15 yards. You can’t flag a verbal taunt and ignore a punch to the helmet in the same breath. The play was already whistled dead, he’s got both feet well into the chalk and then he slaps the head out of frustration. Why no flag? If that’s not taunting, then throw the rule out! You get to call games based on feeling sorry for the loser!

I also believe on replay that Goff in any other situation was “in the grasp”. The second a QB gets wrapped up without immediately freeing himself, he’s awarded “in the grasp”. He doesn’t get awarded a fumble or forward or backward progress. The play was dead at the goal line. The progress is stopped at the moment he becomes defenseless.

3rd and 1. Every non-Packer game I watch seems like 3rd and 1 is a given. Packers for whatever reason just seems like an adventure. (Could just be my own bias, but I'd love to see a 3rd and 1 conversion rate over the last 5 years)
Saved me a post. Didn't watch much of the game, but seemed like several of these.

I watched with friends, so unfortunately my watch was more social than methodical. Hopefully I'll re-watch it this week.

Many above hit great points. However, I'll point out that on the Parsons sack the left DE (which I believe was Engbare) ran head down into a double-team and did not contain the edge. Parsons ran from the far side and took down Goff. To me it shows how our defense would look without a guy like Parsons.

My other dud comment is just....Musgrave. Absent again. I am not turning into a Musgrave doubter but we need to see it. One catch for 4yds is not much of a stat for the guy that was not covered by any of Detroit's top players.

Had the ball popped out last second as he was being tackled it would not be a fumble because professed was stopped. They’d call it “in the grasp” and look to the film for a proper spot, which would result in a Safety.
My understanding of the current version of "in the grasp" is everything that you said above PLUS the QB's safety has to be in jeopardy for a ref to blow the whistle and declare him in the grasp. The announcers during the game did point out that Gary essentially pulled Goff across the goal line and away from a safety.

It was really a game of

Studs: Special Teams, Defense
55 per punt perfect at FG. The only -negative was a couple of Punt flags. B+A- overall. Clean 2 of those 3 flags up and it becomes a A grade.

Our Offense looked a bit stale. Much of our production came off field position awarded by our D or ST. We need to be better on 3rd n 1. Philly doesn’t miss those and maybe you occasional miss a 1 yard play, but not routinely. I’d get back to Tucker taking a direct snap and bulldozing for 1 yard, which is our version of the Tush Push. Matt is being too fancy on those. Also we’re back to throwing long, low probability on 3rd n 5 at the Opponent 45 yard line. If you get anywhere close to 5 yards it’s 4 down territory or you have an option at a FG. Statistically picking up 3,4 yards there is + points. Plus it opens our options and we control the game and burn clock. imo Take what they give us and convert the 1st down there, particularly when we are up multiple scores. Keep their O off the field and churn the clock once we’re winning. Eating another 2 minutes and kicking a FG increases our odds substantially.

I'd have to look at the film closely, but it's possible that we were taking what they gave us. If they are cheating up and playing the under against us on 3rd & 5, then send it over their heads. The odds are probably even with running into their brick wall defense on 3rd & 5....again, that's assuming that they were stacking that up.

Keep in mind that for much of the game they stuffed our running game, so it's not like picking up 1 or 2 yards was a given in those situations. Not yesterday at least.

Crazy thing is if the junk plays don’t happen, Parsons spoke being on a snap count but honestly I don’t want him to be a 80% plus guy. Get him in about 65 give or take and I think his lethality is just insane
He really didn't have much of a preseason in Dallas so I wasn't surprised he was on a snap count. He most likely will again on Thursday. By the end of the month we'll see him out there a lot more. :D

Honestly when running is highly likely by the opponent I don't always want him out there unless we are moving him around as an off ball....that part of his game just isn't a strength (run defense that is).

Another dud is the person who has been advising MLF on these challenges. He stinks at them.

Parsons has to line up on our side of the ball.

Would make sense but here that wasn’t the case. On the several plays we went long on 3rd n short or medium and passed up the underneath throw for a sure fire 1st Down.

Heres one example where you had Kraft an easy 1st down and IMO the way Romeo carried his guy with momentum deeper toward the pylon? 1st n Goal. The LB isn’t catch Kraft before the 10 yard line and I wouldn’t be surprised if Kraft doesn’t end up closer to the 6-8 yard line. Worst case, it’s 1st n Goal.
Romo mentioned the same thing. Kraft is an automatic 1st down. Take what the D gives you when you’re Winning it’s a 1st n Goal setup. Sometimes we get a little to anxious.

Instead? We had to settle for 3 points. That’s a shot you take on 2nd n 5.
Live to see another down. It’s a common occurrence and repetitive theme. Especially when we get in the Redzone or when we can move the chains and get a clock stop together in postseason.

Love isn’t going to see the best read every time especially if it is the second or third read through a progression unfortunately.

It’s entirely possible his view was partially obstructed until last second or the throw could’ve been batted or tipped because of the OL there.
TE Option Kraft probably came into view as he was already committed into his throwing motion. Otherwise Love would probably agree with Romo there, might’ve just taken the easy throw and 1st down.

Anytime we can get a YAC guy in space with room we should take that bet.
