Mike McCarthy has excelled in at least one area since becoming head coachof the Packers in 2006. He's compiled a solid winning record against clubs in Green Bay's own division.

McCarthy is 13-5 to date against the Bears, Lions & Vikings but could easily be 16-2 or 17-1. The Packers were just 2 botched field goals from a perfect 6-0 in the NFC North last season and the 2 losses to Chicgo in 2007 were the result of their own turnovers and special teams breakdowns in those contests.

Over the same span of time Chicago is 11-7 in division games; but only .500 the last 2 years. Minnesota is 9-9. Detroit is 3-13.

McCarthy is 6-0 against the Lions, 5-1 over the Vikings, but only 2-4 with the Bears; although a couple of those Chicago games could be asterisked.

The Packers' seasons with MM, though, have been made or broken outside the division and there they are only 14-16 the last 3 years.

In their 13-3 season two years ago the Packers were 4-2 in divisional games and 9-1 against the rest of the NFC and AFC. Last year Green Bay matched the 4-2 division log but fell to 2-8 in interdivision & interconference play to end up 6-10.

Last season the Pack was 0-4 against the NFC South and 1-3 against the AFC and 1-1 in the "wild card" NFC games with Dallas & Seattle.

This year they play the weaker NFC West, which should produce at least 3 wins if not a sweep of the 4. They will be matched with the AFC North, which should be no worse than 2-2 but maybe with a good year 3-1 is possible.

That leaves the Dallas & Tampa Bay games as the ones on which the season may swing. It's not too hard to find at least 9 wins on the rest of the shedule so these two could be the ones that make the difference between playoffs or not, between winning the divison back or not.
