You're letting dishonest people with a dishonorable agenda manipulate you into making irrational risk assessment decisions. Of the 200 largest cities in the US, Chicago ranks 92 in violent crime. Way behind cities like Phoenix, San Antonio, Tucson, Raleigh-Durham, St. Petersburg, Dallas, Houston, Fayeteville, Oklahoma City, Amarillo, Louisville, Charlotte, Gainseville, Knoxville, Mobile, New Orleans, Chattanooga, Akron, Lubbock, Indianapolis, Greensborough, Salt Lake, Tulsa, Kansas City, Nashville, Albequerque, Cleveland, Little Rock, Memphis, Baton Rouge, Shreveport... and in many cases, the violent crime rate in those cities is double or even triple that of Chicago.
But I'm guessing the people who are telling you how incredibly dangerous Chicago is don't mention that to you, do they?
Wonder why not...
Go to Chicago, make sensible decisions about where you go and what time of day you go there, and enjoy yourself.
I'm not sure what that paragraph means. Nobody got up that morning?
Apparently, you didn't understand the whole point of the post because I am going to Chicago.....
Rodgers last game at Soldier is something I will not miss.... and I'm at a point in my life where I can afford and will do the things that I can that I don't want to miss..... regardless of legitimate fears that I have....
I will not stay in Chicago though.
I will drive into da city that morning and we will leave the city....immediately after celebrating Aaron Rodgers early forced retirement and stop at hotel an hour south of Chicago.
As to my apparently unfounded fears of da city.....I have eyes..... I have ears...and I lived in Detroit for 6 years ..... not Royal Oak.....the D.
You're telling me(not verbatim...but what I infer..) is that "i'm allowing dishonest people with a dishonest agenda" to convince me that Chicago is a dangerous town to visit......
Just a few headlines from 10 seconds of Google search,
In April and out of town couple was beaten and robbed,
15-year-old shot a person in front of their 11-year-old child outside a movie theater in what is a suspected attempted robbery that escalated to ateemted murder..
And a month ago, there was a stabbing in broad daylight at Navy Pier. Daylight.
So.....again.....bad things can happen anywhere....... but you hope for the best but plan for the worst....
But......if you go to Chicago, you better plan for the worst and hope for the best...
In conclusion....I think....you think... you know that I think a certain way... but...
I think...that you don't know a thing about me or my life experiences.
Some people would allow other people to threaten them or their wife/family (notice I didn't say disrespect...I said threaten with an inference of violence) and walk away..I am not.
This isn't trying to be Johnny hardballs or anything like that..... but if you threaten me or my wife with violence....."I'm your huckleberry".....and you will regret it..
So.... using good judgment....I have to limit the time I spend in a city like that.
I could run into disrespect or loudmouths anywhere in the world, but you're more apt to run into VIOLENCE in a city like Chicago, Philly or any of the other large cities you mentioned.....
I live in an out of the way county in Kentucky.
I have a large sign showing my very large dogs(a literal picture.. i've got a beautiful German Shepherd, Great Dane and Bull Staphy) and it says "don't trespass"
We haven't locked our front door in over a decade.
In fact, I don't think that me or my wife has a key to the front door....at least I don't.
Don't get it twisted though....if you come our house uninvited.....you will regret it.
I wont even have to be there.... and whoever comes in...should pray that I'm not......
I just think it's a little arrogant to tell somebody theyre kind of brainwashed and should have no fear of going to a large city.....when my life experiences tells me different....
It's kinda like....winning the lottery in reverse or being struck by lightning..... You can only lose the lottery if you play...
And you can only be struck by lightning if you're dumb enough to be running around in the rain and lightning.... kinda like running around Chicago after dark and hoping nothing bad happens.......
