That was another point I was trying to make. Give the free agents a reason to come here with the CHANCE of winning a SB and they might overlook the inclement weather conditions, but we`ve done nothing but dissolve when we need to get it done over the past few years.

I think the Packers have been relevant in the Super Bowl conversations for quite a long time, so I doubt that is what is holding FA's back from wanting to come to Green Bay, but you have to be invited first. I think the invites from TT and the Packer organization are why we don't see as many FA's in GB as you would in New England or other franchises.

Agree. I'm withholding judgment on Cleveland for now. I think they may be on the right path. If they can put a decent QB on the field and have some good coaching their future is brighter imo than about 15 franchises I can think of.

They're certainly in position to improve rapidly. One thing for sure; they're putting together a heck of an offensive line.

and actually....it was 43 years, but they didn't have a team in Cleveland 96, 97 and 98....They escaped to Baltimore to eventually become winners! :roflmao:

I'm laughing out loud right now.......people who are so optimistic about Cleveland....and pessimistic about the Packers...I guess its all about perspective. :coffee:

When the Packers were in their free fall nose dive last year and the Browns were winless (including preseason), I kept thanking the one above that we didn't have to face the Browns. At that time, I would have been really nervous about the outcome and the ramifications of handing the Browns their only win. The Chargers gave them that X-Mas present on 12/24.

Based on the posts of the most frequent posters THIS offseason, Cleveland may be the ones giving us our only win in 2017.

I was under the impression Seattle wants a First Round Pick AND a Third Round Pick for Sherman.

Uhm, no thanks!

Plus his current $14mil+/year for 2017 & 2018 is NOT cap friendly

I'd rather the Packers take a chance at Revis b/c his market value of $6-$7 mil/year

What the Seahawks want and what they will take is all purely speculation at this point. I have read a variety of things, most of which hovers around a "High pick" and a "very good" player. That could come down by draft time, if the Seahawks are serious about trading him.

I'm not sure where you got the $14M+ for his salary. From what I have read, Sherman's contract would cost a new team $11.431M this year and $11M next year.

Looks like his cap hit for this year and next is $13.6m & $13.2m. He overlooked that cap hit doesn't follow the player in a trade, only the salary and unpaid bonuses. (workout, roster, incentives)
I didn't check before but Seattle only has about $8.4m cap space left. #s 52 and 53 take almost $1m of that plus another $2m for top two draft picks plus 8-10 PS guys for another $1m+ and the replacements for IR guys. Will save some by replacing some 2nd and 3rd year guys with minimum wage rookies. Looks like $8m at this time of the off season doesn't go as far as it used to.

We have never really "picked Sherman apart". Last year Adams beat Lane and Jordy beat Shead. Sherman gave up a few plays but nothing major here.

In 2015 Jones beat Sherman for a TD on a post route. Other then that Sherman played pretty well in that game.

I've watched almost every Seattle game over the last 4-5 years. Sherman is the real deal and if you insert him into Sherman, House, Burnett, Dix then we almost certainly emerge as one of the top secondaries in the NFL. Maybe the best if our young guys develop adequately.

I really don't understand why some people are obsessed with bringing in a recently non productive ADRIAN Peterson with checkered past who doesn't fit our system in but think bringing in Sherman would be a huge mistake. Makes zero sense to me
How about taking neither?

Laughable how some don't think it's a good idea to bring in an veteran, established, all pro cornerback, as if this team as currently constructed is some defensive juggernaut.

There is definitely a need for an all pro CB on the Packers. What I think some or at least I would be questioning, does the cost to acquire Sherman, to try (no guarantees) and fill that need, make sense now and into the future. While I think Sherman would have a great shot at filling the need, there are other variables to consider. For all we know TT approached Seattle and they weren't interested in the #29 pick or anything else TT had to offer.

Yeah, I was talkin about just the tone of some on the board itself.

It will be interesting to see where Sherman lands, if traded, and what the other team gave up.

I'm thinking our late first, and a third next year is a perfect trade.

Well... I guess if Wolf hadn't acquired White he wouldn't have been able to match Thompson's Packers for winning % and super bowl victories.
all things being equal - Wolf blows TT away as far as Defensive accumin in the draft.

number 29 this year is a no Brainer unless someone unexpected is on the board that TT thinks is gonna be better than sherman. and I'd think a conditional 4/5th based on next season would be fair. then you cut him and save 11 m and a 4th if he doesn't pan out

I know I'm self-quoting, but I just absolutely love that LambeauLambo "disagreed" with this post. It's alluding to a literal fact. It's kind of fitting that your hardcore TT bashers would disagree with a fact.

Your red "X" spree is cute, but you don't have anything of any substance to say. Which, I suppose, is why I find my alerts full of "disagrees" but almost nothing by way of response.

This is exactly the risk-averse way of conducting business Packers fans have gotten accustomed to far too much. Acquiring an All-Pro cornerback would result in the team addressing its most glaring weakness and immediately becoming a legitimate Super Bowl contender yet a lot of supporters are reluctant to give up this year's first round pick for Sherman although the draft is a crapshoot selecting at #29.

I definitely agree with you that Sherman would could be a worthwhile addition to the Packers, if he could be had for the #29 pick. However, given everything I have read, Seattle, at least right now, wouldn't settle for just a #29 pick for him, they are seeking a "High pick + a good player". I am also guessing Sherman will not be coming to GB, nor was he probably ever on TT's radar.
