Week 9: Packers in New England

Packers special teams have sucked for a while. If Crosby doesn't put it deep in the end zone it seems the other team always seems the get it past the thirty. We can't seem receive a punt or a kick off without a flag for holding or illegal block in the back. Our kick returns seem to never reach the 20. Hiring Ron Zook was NOT the answer.

I always find it amusing when analysts state there’s no debate because Brady has 5 rings. They ignore the fact that Rodgers has played 8 less seasons than Brady. (Due to younger age) Rodgers has way more time than Brady to add to his resume.

That would make sense if Rodgers was on pace to win five, but he isn't.
There are also those who say that Brady will play until about 45, whereas Rodgers will not because his style of play leads to more injuries.

”Pace” is not really relevant. Brady won 3 SuperBowls within 4 years. It’s dependent on the whole team.

Also, Rodgers could play until he’s 45 as well. He can throw from the pocket as well as Brady. He chooses to also use his legs because he can, and Brady can’t. He can adjust his game as he ages. He has lots of time.

I'm coming to the conclusion that it's an impossible debate. Brady has Kraft and Belichick, meaning the Patriots hit the trifecta. It's apples and oranges. Can you say Rodgers talent overcomes Brady's work ethic? Don't know.

I love our guy, but in my mind Montana is #1. The 80's to mid 90's were as good as football get's. No free agency, teams could be built and held together. Can't remember the year but except for a BS call the Niners had an undefeated team. That was a time when the QB could get smoked.

what an up hill battle to to defend zook and special teams play. looks like the in the pic sam has covered few yards. anyhow a punter threw the pass.... must have been a frozen rope...cause king made no play on the ball. if the rams covert that play uncontested....its bad special team play period.

It was 4th and 3 at the Rams 45. While Shields May have lined up behind the line of scrimmage, King was within 5 yards of both the line and of Shields when the ball was hiked.

Your defense isn't very good at stopping what we do best.

Ours definitely matches up well with your offense, because your team likes to pass the ball downfield, and we have the best secondary in the league.

We also play a lot of cover 1, which is an ideal counter to the switch concepts that your team uses.

I don't see why some here think GB's offense matches up well vs NE's defense. Football is all about scheme, personnel, and match ups, not about offensive or defensive rankings.

The Packers don't really do the things on offense that have posed issues for NE's defense. The Packers' RBs are not a threat in the passing game, and their TEs have been mediocre at best. Most of GB's chunk gains have come from their vertical passing game from switch concept, which doesn't really work as well against what NE does on defense - a lot of cover 1 with a safety dropping into robber.

Adams will be a problem, and will probably be double teamed with JMac and a safety. Other than that, I don't see many offensive threats. Graham is soft and has been shut down by Belichick before. Jonathan Jones has been very good as a slot CB, while Cobb hasn't really produced this season. Allison will likely be taken out of the game completely by Gilmore.

On the other side of the ball, GB hasn't shown that they can get to the QB with just 4 consistently. That's the death knell for a zone team against Brady. Their LBs also can't cover RBs or TEs.

A lot of the things GB does on offense with their switch concepts don't really work against a good cover 1 team like NE. I expect them to move the ball between the 20s, but they will likely be held to 24 or under.

And now I am waiting to see how this plays out...

I can see it now.

Before the game: "Patriots' defense sucks. It's the worst Rodgers has played this season!"

After NE's convincing victory: "Brady only beat Rodgers because he has a better defense. Rodgers always has terrible luck and a trash defense. Not his fault!"
