Most of the higher priced guys are gone before the draft.

I would probably term it as "most marketable" guys. Meaning they were signed because they and a team had mutual interest and came up with a contract that worked for both parties.

Most of the FA signings stall and are done few weeks before the draft, teams look to see what happens there before moving on to again a few UFAs they like but not quite enough to comitt to prior to the draft.

A month or so I downplayed compensatory picks as factoring into whether a team is willing to sign a free agent that could negate a future comp. pick. While I still think comp picks are a bit down the priority list, I do think that in the Packers case, they might be a factor right now.

As I alluded to in my first comment above, there are some decent free agents still unsigned, but because of the following things, they will be waiting for a bit before finding their next team.

- Asking for too much $$$
- Waiting for right team/situation
- Injury concern
- Teams hoping to fill needs with draft picks, not FA's
- Comp. pick offset

My guess is that Gute has a short list of FA's or even trade targets and the Packers have been in touch with said players/teams. Once the draft is complete, let the free agent frenzy begin again.
