That would result in only 15 games though as it's really tough to play against your own team. ;)

That's an easy fix, you play the one team in the opposite conference that finished last season in the same spot (first , last etc.)

I believe there was a story about the competition committee meeting to discuss the playoff formats for next year, maybe and end to 500 or under 500 teams making playoffs...
Division winners will always get a home game. The Divisional competition is the foundation of the NFL. There was all the complaining about the Seahawks when they were 8-8 and they knocked out the defending champs. This came up at the owners meeting a couple of years ago and there was not even enough interest to get it to a vote. The Division Champion will always host a home game. The game has already been screwed up enough with all the recent changes. Give it time to settle and things will even out again.

One thing I hope the competition committee recommends to be changed is the pass interference spot foul. With the new point of emphasis giving way to many yards to that penalty.

They really should create a provision that requires 8 wins to qualify for the playoffs. Its a joke if NO gets a home game at 7-9. This situation has happened what once.....with the Seahawks? Its not like it would happen all that often.
Exactly, it is a rare thing for a division champion to not have a winning record. that's why you don't mess with it. Also, didn't the Seahawks beat the defending champions.

I agree that they would have to eliminate division winners because as long as you have division winners, the playoff reward needs to be there. I wouldn't eliminate them, though. Division championships still have some degree of prestige for teams and revenue for the NFL. Think of all the money that the NFL and teams make through divisional championship merchandise and clothing every year, not to mention the interest in the NFL that the divisional rivalries offer.

An alternative solution would be to just have two 8 team divisions in each conference rather than four 4 team divisions. You wouldn't have an awful sub .500 team winning a division.
What fun would this game be without the divisional system. Look at us and the Lions, the AFC North, The NFC west, Even all the fans of the four teams in the NFC south are still dukeing it out for the Division title. That's What keeps this all interesting during the regular season. that's what fills the seats in the stadiums. Divisional Rivalry's are what bring in the TV revenue during the season. Everybody watches the playoffs

Hence, Half empty.

Yeah he is...but...I get it. I tend to try to stay guarded myself. Don't get me wrong, I dream of Super Bowls, I just try not to fall into the mindset of assuring myself that it is going to happen.

When we lose a playoff game, hell, it feels like a breakup to me. I shouldn't be that emotionally invested, but I am. I expect big things from this team, but I try to stop short of feeling like any playoff game is a sure win.

Would any team in London want to travel to the US eight times a year? I don't think it's a viable idea. But then again Goodell is the Commish.

But how about "The London Kings"

London losers.

:D We are world beaters at EVERY sport, but too polite to show people up at it, so we LET everybody beat us at EVERYTHING. Ask Nessie

And what happens to your rivalry's? They lose all meaning without the divisional system.

So we keep the divisions to keep the rivalries but ignore the divisions when it comes time to reward the teams for winning them.

This is a classic case of if it aint broke don't fix it but if they feel they need to fix it simply add another wild card team.
