I don't agree that the tight end position is so difficult that rookies don't do well often. I think that oftentimes rookies just don't do well and also that coaches oftentimes don't give them a real chance. I think Jace will get a shot and if he comes through we will see a lot of him on the field. That is what I hope happens. OTOH Graham is starting to play a lot better so that will limit opportunities. Do you think all coaches across all teams are trying to hold TE's back compared to other positions? Because in the past decade or 2, the norm for successful TE's as a rookie is in the sub 500 yard range and a couple TD's maybe.

Where as we regularly see rookie OL produce, Rookie RB's especially, some rookie WR's, even QB's sometimes, but rookie TE's? even if they get near 1,000 yards in years 2,3,4 and beyond, they rarely see more than a couple to a few hundred as a rookie. Why would coaches hold them back vs all other positions IF they really were ready to be successful? They have to learn offensive line blocking schemes and they have to learn a pass catching route tree and all the reads with both. I think it's a unique position, or they aren't really a TE. Just a big WR.

There's a reason they rarely do well as rookies, even the great ones.

Other players are really just scrubs and shouldn't be on an NFL roster. It's annoying but you see guys like Kumerow who has to work his way up and he's starting to show he earns it or a guy like Thielen

Both are undrafted but have proven they can play but really had to fight to be given a chance at a predominantly "black" position. That not racist, it's 100% the truth. And they just so happen to be white

I would love to see what Kumerow can do now that he's getting more playing time and can gain some confidence. Also Lazard too !

Why are guys like Allison and Shepherd starting over them even when AR has publicly voiced support for Kumerow and Lazard?

No, I was just talking about rookies in general. But I do think that if Jace gets in and gets himself open and then holds on the ball; he will get his chances. Fair enough, I do think it is a unique position in terms of blocking and running routes that slows the progression some.

"Contribution" is different than one saying, "he's a stud". That's my stance. I loved him prior to the draft, I love him more now that he's paired with AR.

It would really be awesome if Sternberger could come in and be a consistent 60/700/8 type of guy for us for years

Cook was awesome for the Packers in the 2016 playoffs. Expecting Sternberger to put up numbers like that consistently is unrealsitic.

That was one of the worst TE classes in recent memory. The most recent one was very good, so of course Sternberger didn't get a lot of hype. Just looking at their tape, they are very similar and he should be a very good receiving TE, though I believe he'll become a solid blocker as well.

That may be your opinion and that's fine, but it wasn't the majority opinion on them coming out of college. Henry was more highly regarded and it wasn't because of his draft class.

Regarding this.

Yeah you never want to put too much pressure on a 3rd round pick, which ironically Finley was one too, but you want to expect "something" out of him nowadays.

Would I expect Sternberger to come in and be 60/700/8 right away? Obviously not.

But "something" this year and probably 50/600/6 next year would be a really "nice" start.

Sternberger wasn't active for Sunday's game at Kansas City. The Packers are allowed to activate him to the 53 beginning this week.
