Studs - Gary

Duds - Lafleur

100% agree. And I think I said it already earlier (and I think you did too, lol) but it really felt like when LaFleur opened it up a little bit and got more up-tempo and aggressive, it seemed like that's when we started rolling the best...and then for whatever reason got away from that again right after it started working. Offensively it was very much a "not-to-lose" type of approach IMO
Does MLF have even one screen pass in his playbook? I think it's been an issue since he took over. And in this game, he made no adjustments to deal with the Brown's rush during half-time, and as I said he never seems to employ plays that are specifically designed to attempt to counter strong DL penetration. Instead he forces the QB to wait/make deep reads even as the pocket relentlessly collapses around him. Seems like they give up a lot of 3rd down passing sacks when the other team just blitzes and knows Love will run out of time waiting for guys to get 20 yards downfield. I find it bizarre.

We used more true screens when we had Aaron Jones and Bakhtiari. Rodgers liked them also. To run them your O line has to be in sync.

After watching Sundays game, with the current OL, this team needs to stop thinking about being run heavy, unless they are playing against a weaker defensive front 7 that what the Browns have.

I know that having Josh Jacobs as your RB makes a coach like MLF want to be dominant in the ground, but sometimes you have to settle what the defense is giving you. A guy like Musgrave probably should have been in there more on Sunday, and running short routes to give Love quick options. I think it was @OldSchool101 that posted a nice break down of just how short all but 1 of Loves passes were going. I don't think that is because MLF decided it would be that way, I think it was more dictated on a front 7 that collapsed the pocket all afternoon.

Musgrave won't be cut, but MLF really needs to figure out more plays where he can use him, as a receiver.
I agree. IMO pregame, I really thought the recipe in this one was the RB and TE in the shorter passing game(1-10 yards area). We did use Jacobs heavier (9 passes). But only 6 passes went to our TE group. Would’ve like to see that more in the 10-12 passes area.

On reviewing. The Browns LB’s were selling out on the Run to stop Josh. Almost to a fault. Should’ve been more play action and faking the handoff and rolling out and hitting carrying the LB and making him choose between Love running or covering the TE.

Was also surprised they didn’t dial up more short passes to Savion in stride. He’s basically a smaller TE with RB speed.

Personally I would’ve brought out an extra OL as eligible. Using a heavy Package.
1TE, 6 OL, 1 RB, 2 WR, QB.
They were loading the box with 8 regular and we stayed with a light Package. Having 7 big bodies upfront would’ve also allowed Players to stay Home in their lane to mitigate the stunts. Not to mention they’re got to match our 6 BY 310-325 pounders. Use our size that’s why we went BIG
Love rarely had time to look past 2 reads, so that extra 1-1.5 seconds to read and react. Plus it allows the RB or TE to leak out if needed. Love had to throw before the route developed, that’s what I was seeing.
THAT would’ve also allowed us to take several more shots past 20+ yards to keep them honest. Similar to vs. Washington.
Keep our WR on opposite sidelines and make the lone deep Safety choose his type of death. Use Tucker as an HBack as the lead blocker on Runs. Then take some longer 30+ timing throws to the 1 on 1, especially in 3rd n Forever which we put ourselves in regularly.

We tried to box with Finesse, body shots instead of punching them in the Nose.

I just think Musgrave is what he is, an offensive weapon that is too much for a LB to cover well and a easy for a CB...IF we get to airing the ball out more his value goes up, but if the team wants to continue being run heavy and rely on play action to pass he simply doesn't fit the plan.
I remember his rookie year, when he seemed to flash a lot of early upside, and we were all really excited about tandem tight ends who would be equally dangerous in different ways. Some of us were all like "Hernandez and Gronkowski all over again." Dynasty, baby!

Remember, Musgrave was the 2nd round pick, and Kraft the 3rd rounder, and Musgrave was considered the clearly better prospect of the two. He broke the Packer record for receptions by a tight end in only 11 games before suffering a season-ending injury, and fell just 11 yards short of the yardage record. He only played 7 games the following year because of an ankle injury, and by 25 Kraft had emerged as the much better of the two.

Kind of a shame; I feel badly for the guy. You have to wonder how differently it might have turned out if he'd stayed healthy those first 2 seasons.

I don't feel bad for him. I think he can play. LaFleur needs to call plays for him. It's ridiculous that we just leave him out of the game plan. Imho

we were using lots of 12 formation in Camp and even into Preseason. I really thought this was going to be the year they got Luke involved more. I’m not suggesting pulling Kraft, but supplemental usage on a few series to let Musgrave get some looks. Also some paired TE concepts.

Really imo when Reed went down, this was the perfect opportunity to lean more on our pair of TE’s. He got 13 snaps last Sunday and 0 targets. In a game where you need to get the ball out quicker your TE should be a regular target. I do like we used or RB, Josh heavily in the Passing game (10 targets). Also I know that Cleveland ranked #1 against TE coverage across werk1-2. It might’ve just not been a good matchup to get him going idk.
