The Packers haven´t added any pieces aside of Josh Francis and Kyle Sebetic to improve the team. I highly doubt any of these guys will even make the 53.
Raji and Guion last week. The roster looks a whole lot better than it did a month ago.

Both were on the roster last season. By re-signing Cobb, Bulaga, Raji and Guion Thompson assured the Packers will probably be as good as they were in 2014 (in case Hayward works out opposite Shields). I'm really excited about the team's outlook for next season as we were damn close to going to the Super Bowl but nevertheless I would have liked to bring a veteran ILB in to improve the defense.

You've been pretty consistent on your stance and i do agree with you on your points that a veteran ILB and a high pick allocated to the position would make me feel a whole lot better also but would like to add there werent really any veteran ILBs to add. I see Spikes name thrown around alot but hes still available for a reason.

I would think it wont be until after May 12 before we sign anyone. That's when free agents don't count against comp picks. Heard Carr might be released by Dallas June1 that might be an option for us.

The only reason I've read so far- most recently after visiting with the Vikings-for Spikes continued availability is that his contract demands are too high.

Thompson said in a recent interview that compensatory picks don't factor into his approach to free agency.

Brandon Carr isn't a good corner by any means, no thanks.

Actions speak louder than words! He signed Peppers and Guion (who both have been cut and don't count to the formula), and rarely chases an actual UFA? I think that compensatory picks factor into his approach to free agency.

During his tenure Thompson has signed 12 untestricted free agents from other teams. In comparison Peppers and Guion are the only one cut by their former teams.

I expect to see the 2nd round of free agency after the draft when teams start paring down their salary cap. Still a long way to go.

Raiders have signed Sean Richardson to an offer sheet (no details available), Packers have chance to match it.

According to a source the Raiders offer sheet for Sean Richardson is a one-year, $2.55 million deal.

That's insane for Richardson. That's borderline starting level safety pay. There is no way (I hope) that we match that for a guy who would be the 4th safety on our depth chart.

Don't expect much , if any value.
Ok. I'll just give up all hope. We are going to have only one ILB on the roster and as such we'll be lucky to go 8-8. We're doomed because we didn't sign any high priced, **** big name free agent Lb's.

All of the money in the Raiders offer sheet is guaranteed as well with a $1.35 million signing bonus, a fully guaranteed base salary of $1 million and a $200,000 roster bonus due at the start of training camp. Truly insane.

Especially when you consider his history with a major injury. Richardson is a decent talent, but he's never going to be a good coverage safety. He's good in run support and other than that he's strictly a special teams type player.

They'll bring someone in to compete with Banjo for the 4th safety spot and there will be little or no dropoff. I'll be blown away if they match this.

Jarrett Bush signed a $5.25 mil / 3 year deal with no expectation he'd be anything more than a core special teams player, dime back, and emergency safety. He could not even bounce M.D. Jennings out of the starting line-up.

Oakland probably likes him as a sub-package box safety, dime safety, and core special teams player. A little pricey? Sure. Insane? No.

Bush was a lot more versatile than Richardson, so his ability to fill in as a dime or even nickel corner already made him quite a bit more valuable than Richardson, especially when we don't really have concerns at safety. Richardson being strictly a safety limits his value. Bush also didn't have the concerns with the major injury history, and in addition his per year average of 1.75M is quite a bit less than 2.55M.

1.75M is a lot more in the range of what I think a reasonable salary for Richardson would be, though I'd still see it as an overpay.

Richardson led us in special teams tackles last year and was used a lot in short yardage situations, but was a liability in coverage.
According to Silverstein, Richardson led the NFL with 17 special teams tackles.

McGinn had him with 17 ST tackles too but erroneously wrote he was second on the team. The site linked below has Jayrone Elliot leading the team with 15 solo ST tackles and Richardson with 12. The same site has two players tied for the league lead with 18 ST total tackles and has Richardson with 13 total.

I have no idea how valid the site's numbers are but the point is Richardson was good on STs. Perhaps it’s time to have Richardson take Bush’s spot as ST specialist/backup safety. But as Silverstein wrote, Thompson may balk at that much guaranteed money.

WesHod says the 17 tackles comes from the "coaches statistics".

Tackle numbers from various sources are all over the place, as explored in a previous discussion regarding Hawk as the all-time Packer tackler.

I'd be inclined to trust the coaches numbers since they come out of film review from guys who would presumably know best.

No, I really don't think Thompson will pony up. And I think Bush's return is suspect. My point was simply that Oakland's offer is something less than absurd. And if they have a mind to use a lot of box safety sets, they might just get their money's worth.
