It is certainly goofy. There have been proposals to create a tier for "playcaller," such that a DB coach could aways interview for DC, QB coach for OC (for example) but as far as I know, none of them actually gained traction.

There is an equivalent tier for front office personnel. I think the cutoff is full roster control, but it might be full football control. IE, you can't block someone from interviewing to be GM, but if your "GM" has weird responsibilities, you can't prevent him from interviewing at an org that would give him full control.

Schefter. He always rushes stuff out too fast. I swear he gets a bonus every time a coach gets fired. He always looks so happy.

Packers requested interview with Deronte Jones from the Vikings.

Appears we are looking at more of the youn up-and-comers rather than the established successful sorts.

Not sold on either Gannon or his DC in Arizona. I think he inherited the talent with the Eagles, along with a solid draft, so making them the top defense was easier than it would be in Green Bay. My problem is that LeFleur has this thing about becoming enthralled with certain coaches and doesn't necessarily see what's best for the team.

I think he's going to surprise everyone with whom he chooses.

I won't start a new thread on other coaching positions, unless someone else wants to. Besides Bisaccia, I think MLF needs to take a long hard look at Luke Butkus. He really hasn't impressed me that much since he became the Packer OL coach in 2022. How do I measure success of a coach? I guess I look at his body of work with players and if those players have really improved a lot under their coaching.

Someone might have the full list of offensive lineman that Butkus has worked with, but I will just list drafted players since 2019. That would mean that Butkus had them for a year or more.

- Elgton Jenkins: Jenkins was a 2019 2nd round pick. I may be wrong, but his play has gone down since 2022.

- Jon Runyan Jr.: (2020 6th Rd.): Another player that seemed to be on a decent trajectory and then fizzled under Butkus.

- Jake Hanson: (2020 6th Rd.): Cut after 3 seasons, hasn't amounted to much.

- Josh Myers: (2021 2nd Rd.): Myers did fine at center, not sure if he got better when he signed with the Jets or not. Always felt a bit underwhelming as a 2nd round pick center.

- Royce Newman: (2021 4th Rd.): Newman never amounted to much with the Packers in 3 seasons and hasn't done much since he left.

- Cole Van Lanen: (2021 6th Rd.): Tricky one here. While Van Lanen never played for the Packers under Butkus, he was in Camp during Butkus's 1st year as OL coach. The Packers traded him that August to the Jags for a measly 7th round pick. Butkus and the Packers obviously underestimated this kids talent. He has started at both G and T for the Jags and just signed a 3 year extension worth $32.5 million guaranteed.

- Sean Rhyan: (2022 3rd Rd.): Inconsistent so far as a 3rd round pick. Maybe a good backup, but not my pick for a starter.

- Zach Tom: (2022 4th Rd.): Obviously, the best OL player that the Packers have drafted in the last 5 or so years. So Gute/Butkus might deserve some credit here.

- Rasheed Walker: (2022 7th Rd.): Walker has exceeded all expectations for a 7th rounder, that said, he kind of either peaked or regressed this past season.

- Jordan Morgan: (2024 1st Rd): This was either a really bad pick by Gute and/or Butkus hasn't coached him up. Really disappointing pick thus far.

- Jacob Monk: (2024 5th Rd.): 2 Years in, hasn't done much.

- Travis Glover: (2024 6th Rd.): So far has been a nothing burger IMO

- Anthony Belton: (2205 2nd Rd.): The kid might have talent, but for a 2nd round pick, we haven't really seen it yet. Again, maybe a Gute misfire or Butkus just isn't coaching him up. Or just a guy that needs more time with the right coach.

The final thing I will point out about Butkus, again. The guy hasn't worked his way up the depth chart as a coach, in 20 years!. Matter of fact, it is the opposite, he seems to take steps back.

The whole Butkus-Stenovich has been odd to me.
I still have yet to get a clear answer from anyone on what exactly Stenavich does as OC. And I don't even mean like a detailed and specific answer....I mean I don't even know of anyone who has any clue what he does in even the most vague/general sense. LaFleur designed the offense, and LaFleur calls the plays. Bisaccia was supposedly made assistant head coach to help with "game management" for LaFleur. What exactly is he "coordinating?" I'm not even trying to be facetious here. I guess he acts as a kind of middle-man between the HC and the offensive position coaches but beyond that I really don't know.

It really feels like a situation where we had an OL coach that we really valued in Stenavich and didn't want to see him poached away so we gave a "promotion" to OC. Which in some ways makes a little sense, but now it feels like we have an OC who does nothing and our OL also got worse.

Agree on this observation and it is something I have been scratching my head about for a long time. We saw it a lot with the Packers coaching staff under McCarthy and it just seemed to do nothing but get guys raises & new titles so they wouldn't move on. The problem was, the Packers got the same results on the field.

On the other hand, I am sure Matt divvies up the job tasks as he sees fit, regardless of titles and thinks all is well. The problem with that is that there is no transparency as to where the rotten roots are if guys are crossing over into other positional groups or other coaching decisions, maybe Matt can't even figure out who to blame for mistakes, besides himself.

And special teams coordinator.

Yup, been saying that for a long time. Problem now. If Matt isn't going to give up play calling, he may not want to give up Bisaccia, you know because Rich is his right hand man.

If that is the case. Give Rich a bigger hat, make him hold Matt's clipboard and give the job of special teams coordinator to someone who can actually spend a lot of time JUST on coaching special teams.

I got to believe we have a good chance of getting our pick of most of these guys. We have a great talent base with Micah, Cooper, X and Evans.

Alexa must have gotten an upgrade today, she has been very chatty and talks way beyond my questions.

Anyway, I asked her who she thought the Packers should hire for defensive coordinator. She responded:

"Christian Parker is a rising star who previously worked with Matt LaFluer in Green Bay. He's got Super Bowl experience with the eagles and has developed top tier cornerbacks. His fresh perspective and defensive backs, expertise could be exactly what the packers need to revitalize their defense. "

Interested what she tells others.

Al is still VERY young coaching in the NFL. I’d rather not be his early experimental voyage of being a DC in this window we are in. He’s two years out from likely candidate.

Flores apparently at least has some framework in place for a new deal with Minnesota. He’s still a candidate for some HC spots but if he doesn’t land one he’ll be back as DC for the Vikings.
