Hafley has an impossible situation. He loses our two best pass rushers in November which leaves our awful CBs completely exposed. Not many DCs could have done much better. He took Barry's defense and turned them into top 10 in one season. He's good.
Still, this is close to the defense we were going to start the season with before we signed Parsons. Yeah, there are some pieces missing, but every team has some injuries during an 18 game season. Maybe it's more on Gute though, our depth is not that great. I'd just like to know why they fell apart so badly in the second half.

That's a great question. I think the offensive lines are both good but not great but people who know a lot about the finer points of offensive line blocking can probably figure out the answer.
MLF is supposed to be such a genius at designing running plays too, and that's one thing that's a major irritant to me. Where's the payoff?

Well, another one and done with a brutal, pathetic choke. Some people predicted this familiar ending as early as the Carolina debacle and the warnings became even more vocal after the beat down in Denver.

In the future, if nothing much changes, the people predicting a choke will be called pessimists but history has a way of repeating itself. Don't expect different results if the same cast of characters is trotted out here next year.

Bingo. I mean let’s be honest here. Who is REALLY that surprised with how things went down? Many of us saw this coming a mile off.

I'm disappointed, but I can't say I'm surprised. I hate to say it, but this outcome was characteristic of both us and the Bears.

How did the Bears get a better run game than we have? We have Josh Jacobs, and last year their OL was a joke.
It’s a good question. They went out and resigned/traded/signed

Joe Thuney
Jonah Jackson
Drew Dalman

Totaling over $100mil
committed in guaranteed $$$

Essentially they used their $$ saved from not having to pay their QB $60mil yearly and built a Ram tough front OL.

We were talented enough to Win. Yet it’s undeniable our Head Coach put us in positions to lose. That works against a .500 team. It doesn’t work against hungry, playoff caliber teams.

Matt gave up again when he let the playclock expire

It was 3rd n 10 at the chi21 for the Win. He literally gave up. You will NOT convince me he didn’t know the play clock expired.
We choked.
Chicago didn’t Win because they were more talented. Chicago won and almost swept the series because of poor coaching.

Matt is a wonderful playcaller like B+ A- grade. He’s gets a D to D- grade for clock and end of game decisions.
And a better place kicker.

The will to win is not strong enough. These players take too much for granted. What I saw in 4 of the 5 losses is both a lack of leadership and mental toughness. Chicago had more players get hurt than we did tonight but they next manned up.

There are now only three coaches in NFL history who have played in at least 8+ playoff games and have a worse record than LaFleur.

Matt is 3-6 (.333)
Marty Schottenheimer: 5-13, 0.278
George Allen: 2-7, 0.222
Steve Owen: 2-8, 0.200

Anyhow, perhaps a better way of asking the "LaFleur question" would be something like this:

If you're not willing to fire LaFleur now...How many more of these type losses would it take?

If blowing a 16-6 lead wasn't enough, and 21-6 wasn't enough, if we start blowing 28-6 games, will that be enough?

Maybe if we end next year on a 6-game losing streak that'll do the trick?

Perhaps if we give up 35 points instead of just a measly 25 in the 4th quarter that'd finally be too much?

Maybe next season we will stash three kickers on the roster for half the season and never have a clear plan for what we're doing with any of them.

Maybe next year we can just run three shotgun draws and a punt for every possession after halftime. Maybe that would be the ticket?

If the wheels start falling off in the 2nd quarter next year instead of the 3rd and 4th, would that finally get us to say enough is enough?

What is the line in the sand?

Is it really that difficult to find a kicker that can kick? Seems like it isn't that big of an issue for most teams. And people make fun of you if you use a draft pick on one, so that would suggest they aren't that rare.

What does it say when you not only have this type of colossal collapse to lose a game, but you actually start to expect it?

We have some good players. Keep them, drop the not good ones, and start over with new coaches and scouts. There has to be somebody out there that can do better. And hire better coaches while he's at it.

Fire MLF and try and reel in John Harbaugh.

I'm sick and tired of the 2nd half collapses and his lame playcalls.

Fire everyone except Halfly.

Honestly, I'd be fine with sitting at the bottom of the standings for a few years if it meant we could come back and be one of the toughest teams in the league, that won't choke away games like this. Problem with that is we don't have any first round draft picks for a few years, oops.

By the way, MLF is 1-5 in his last six playoff games. 0-5 to finish the season. We need to make some changes just to get the bad taste out of our mouths. And this point I'm starting to think the team is psychologically crippled. I think they were expecting the collapse just as much as the fans were.

That quote from Quay hits the nail on the head.
How many times have we seen the Packers choke in big games over the years?
Yep, that's our identity now. If it wasn't before, it sure is after this season.
We sure could use a coach like Lombardi now. I hate to say it, but this team has no heart. It's all the more obvious next to a team like the Bears, who never give up on a game.

What i saw last night was an embarrassment of poor coaching and execution. Interception on 4th and long costing us 25 yds of field position, TWO missed FGs and A PAT, foolish unnecessary roughness penalty, false start on 3rd and long leading to a missed FG, dropped passes in critical situations, a DELAY of GAME coming out of a TIMEOUT.

5 losses in the last 5 games of the season, and yes, I know some were simply to rest players and safeguard against injury. BUT SOME WEREN'T! We had the Bears beat TWICE in the last 30 days, and gave away games we had all ready won. 1-5 in our last 6 playoff games.

I've had enough of LaFleur, he's a terrible liability! I don't see how anyone could have confidence in him at this point!

Great post.

If LaFleur is back next season I’m done. I will actively root for the Packers to lose every game until he’s gone.

The biggest frustration is that what we saw this season in the last 5 weeks was so reminiscent of McCarthy. We did not hire MLF just to put " motion " in our offense. We got him so the team could succeed instead of choking like we did so many a time in the MM days. Maybe it is better we did not eke out a win yesterday and have another collapse in Seattle.

Packers finished 9-8-1. Mediocrity to say the least. They added Micah Parsons and got worse. That's hard to do.

MLF seems to be getting dragged hard around the block in national news outside Packers fans. When that starts happening usually time to move on.

I dont see how you sign him to an extension and I dont see how him coaching for his life on 1 year remaining is a good thing (too big of a distraction)

Even Micah Parsons can't help overcome MLF's ineptitude. Leadership/team failures cost numerous games, e.g. Cleveland, Carolina, Philly, & 2 Bear's. Should've been 13-4-1 heading into a bye week, but MLF just wouldn't have it.

This piece of a Bill Huber write up, sums up the end of the season and these 2nd half collapses, starting with the Denver game. Add last nights debacle to this and it tells you there needs to be a change.
