You may not belive it but I'm pleased with the result, all the talk about invincibles was irritating. Chelsea always lose or draw away to Newcastle, (a bogey team) CFC can get on with the season now.

But I accept the bogeyman designation. I'll take it.

Haven't seen @Sandolf in awhile. Perhaps he went to England to support his team? That you Sandolf?

Well my American and German fans, as an Englishman i can only use one phrase to sum up this weekend of football in the English Premier League, and that is 'pure embarassment'.

Adam Johnson, Gary Cahill, Diego Costa, Willian, Sebastien Pocognoli - All disgusting this weekend.

I have no idea on your thoughts on diving, across the pond, but i hate it, absolutely hate it.

Id be a hypocrite if i tried to defend at least two of the Chelsea players they should have left the field, one of the other Hull City players too maybe. Diving is not in the true spirit of the game, ill forever dislike Gareth Bale because of his nautical antics against Scotland.

But lets be honest if they think they can get away with it they will try it, remember Robben at the World Cup? hes another great player but he dives. It goes on regularly at the top level, the only way to stop it is introduce lengthy bans.

Across the pond is something us Americans describe on how to get to you Europeans. :D England to mainland Europe is skipping rocks and drivable. But back to the point, I hate diving and its a disgrace to the game. Diving should be auto red-carded... period. The Brazilians have perfected it for years. Have you seen Oscar dive? The worst ever.

I think you'll find that the current USA head coach was one of the worst divers of all time:D

don't know if it should be a straight red, but i really wish that referee's would be braver and issue a second yellow, like should have happened to cahill at the weekend, i think they tend to bottle it in that kind of situation.

as for Adam johnson, there was a bit of contact there, wasn't there? or am i a bit biased:whistling:

The thing is, Robben is way too obvious with his dives. He needs to learn to take a dive like Ribery where it looks real. :D

the arching of his back in mid-air was mind blowing at the time, to think a professional athlete would cheat in such a manner was maybe not unheard of, but not so blatant and obvious

If you guys watched the Packers game and then later the Niners game last night, there was a good bit of diving going on there as well. Sometimes it worked and drew a flag, sometimes it didn't. Sometime watch the big heavy rushers in an NFL game try to make it look like they are being held by throwing their arm out to the side and acting like they are getting spun around. Or watch the receivers act like they've been held or interfered with. It happens in the NFL too.

As we say, he had a flair for the dramatic. Derby is almost upon us, Mr Black Cat.

yup, and i'm likely going to miss it as i'm not home this weekend, and won't be legally fit to drive with Scotlands new drink-driving laws, maybe have to find a local pub to watch it before i head home

You must find a place to watch it. Where ya heading? What's the new laws about? Zero-tolerance?

i'll be in a wee village called Garmouth, there is a hotel with a pub there, but don't know if it'll have sports channels. i can always record it for when i get home though.

yeah, new drink-driving laws took effect earlier this month, pretty much lowering the blood alcohol to near zero. now even when i play darts and have the car i need to be carfeul even drinking a shandy

Quite a bit of football (soccer) talk here at the site, just found the threads.

I live in Argentina last 7 years, played football growing up in States. I follow a little of the European Leagues, but mostly stick to Champions League and Argentina 1st Division.

Live in Rosario, so my team here is Newells Old Boys... many of their inferior league players are over in Europe now playing.

Ponce is their latest player that is getting a lot of attention overseas, he is only 18 and if continues developing could be a very good one. He missed all of this closing tourney with fracture in his foot.

I've heard the name Ezequiel Ponce before. Is he playing for the Argentine National team too?
