So glad Google drove by Pittodrie Stadium in Aberdeen. I can cruise all around it on Google Earth.

I cruised around other parts of Aberdeen too on street level view. Lots of brick buildings that I expected to see. Cool stuff.

The wonders of google earth, will be even better to be there in person lookin forward to it. :)

And I will be there "live" from tomorrow on :p I'll post some pictures here.
Flying with KLM via Amsterdam for the first time and I'm looking forward to it because I love flying with small planes.
Hope I'll find decent football and rugby stores in Aberdeen to buy me some Scotland gear....:)

not really a small plane from AMS to ABZ, still roughly airbus a320 size, pitodrie has a club store attached to it, not sure about rugby stores, but there are some smaller sports store near the main city thoroughfare(Union Street)

Yeah, not as small as I thought it would be. A Fokker 70 and I was hoping for a smaller plane with turboprop engines. Guess they dont have them anymore. :(
Barely made our connecting flight in AMS because we were delayed and had only 45 minutes connecting time. Thanks to a couple Dutch and British travellers who let us go first at the security and passport control we finally made it.
And I must say very, very friendly and relaxed Dutch staff, unthinkable at a German airport.
I will visit the Dons club store tomorrow for sure and perhaps I'll find a Rugby store somewhere too ;)

Here are some Aberdeen impressions, Pittodrie is on the list for tomorrow.

Footdees, a former fishing village at the east end of the Aberdeen harbour. very nice.

And here are some pictures of my personal highlight today, Pittrodie. It might not be the most modern stadium but it's nothing than pure football. Man, I'm really sad that I couldnt see a game :(

Interesting, I never would have thought as Edinbugh being compact, but by the looks of it, it is.
Aberdeen's main problem is that the local govt has never been very forward thinking. only in recent years has a proper plan been put in place to give Aberdeen a by-pass, which was originally thought of 40 years ago, but it still has not been stamped and settled on.

one big issue with Aberdeen, is the cost of living, being one of the biggest(in top 5 most expensive cities to live in in UK) in the UK despite only being the 28th(?) largest city in the UK. because of the oil industry money in Aberdeen, it seems that everyone must make 1000's upon 1000's of £'s every year. the housing market is crazy and nothing has ever been done to control costs for the normal person on the street.

apart from that, it's generaly a nice place to live, i really love the fact that i can drive for half an hour and be in the country which is pretty spectacular at times

Aaargh, shame on me.....Pittodrie, Pittodrie, Pittodrie. :x3::D
We only had late Friday afternoon and the whole Saturday to explore Aberdeen as we were leaving very early on Sunday morning.
So unfortunately not enough time to visit the surrounding areas outside of Aberdeen. Dunnottar Castle or one of the destilleries could have been interesting.
Instead we spent much more time than initially planned in the Maritime Museum on Saturday morning. Great museum and well worth a visit. And for free, like many other British museums too.
And we explored Aberdeen itself by doing some self-guided walks like "Granite City Trail" and the "Maritime Trail", provided by the Aberdeen Tourist Information. They do have a pretty helpful website where I found these guides.
Most important - next time the visit needs to be planned around a Dons home game, I want to see Pittodrie from the inside !

Regarding the cost of living most UK cities are pretty expensive, compared to us.
But I'm really surprised to hear that Aberdeen is on five in UK because it doesnt look like as if there is a lot of money around.
Its not like as if you see big, expensive cars or Designer fashion stores on every corner. At least I didn't notice it.
Many Scandinavians seem to be in town, met people speaking Norwegian and/or Swedish a couple times. Guess they work for Oil Companies like Statoil or Maersk ?

Another thing i have never understood is, why the local Football team has not been heavily invested in. Oil capital of europe and no big money for the Dons from anyone........

have you not seen any news recently, we've just had a local company invest heavily in Aberdeen, to the tune of nearly £15M, completely wiping out our debt. apart from freeing up some money for wages etc, it should help pave way for us to move stadium in the near future. this has been on the cards for a few years now, as pittodrie is costing more and more to upkeep every year

Nope i didnt know that at all (Westcoaster) thats a good amount not before time should have happened years ago though. Would be good to get even more so they could invest in players. The Dons should at least be the third best team in the country because of support alone. A new Stadium is a must have but as you said its been on the cards for a few years...................
