The team this year has many issues on both sides of the ball. Offensively, until we develop a running game that produces more, a more balanced attack has always been the best way to win, for any team. Many defenses today are so good at defending one dimensional teams. The O- line is clearly the weakest unit on the field, so it really is no surprise to see the offense look pedestrian thus far. Fix the damn line or Mr Rogers won't make it thru the season.
They do have a running game. They will continue to have a running game if Starks is healthy. It's not a running game kind of team. It's impossible, yes, impossible to expect the Packers to become a running team this year. So they better make due with what they have. I get your rant but what in God's green earth do you suggest anybody do with the O-line? It's that point of the season that teams define who they are. This IS the Packers O-line, like it or not and they will win with it.
When teams have to honor the chance at defending the run, more than just once in a while, the field opens up a little bit more for big plays. If we can't hold our own at the line, the team will continue to struggle. Look at some of the D- lines coming up on the schedule, Man they have to straighten this out!
It's not like D-lines got any stronger this year. The Packers have to execute on both sides of the ball. Several dropped INTs this year could have made all the difference in the world.
Defensively, the team is not a whole lot better than last years version. Maybe slightly better against the run, but the pass defense is still a very iffy concern. A bad scheme and shotty tackling still exists for this unit.
Not a whole lot better but better right? Lots of rookies making contributions. That's unnatural in the NFL game. You expect your #1 and 2 to get playing time but beyond that it's all a plus. Perry is moving unnaturally from a down lineman to an up LB, Worthy has had his moments but the secondary is only going to get much better as the season progresses. Tackling isn't shoddy at all, I think they've improved 100% and what is wrong with the scheme?
How good is the 49ers D compared to ours? Worlds apart! When a D cant get off the field or make a big stop in a key spot of the game, { not many takeaways this year } it makes it a lot harder to win any game. The D game plan is not ideally suited to the players we have because i dont think they are as good as we thought they were.
The D has had its chances at INTs but they are not catching them this year. They'll come. The D game plan is completely and totally tailored to the players and they are every bit as good as I ever expected them to be. Maybe you thought more of them but again, many rookies making contributions. I'm stunned to think they are not well manned defensively. Lots to learn for players in their first season as NFL players and lots to learn if you're going from a DE to OLB. Give these guys a chance man.
The overall personnel is lesser than many other Defenses. Clay is the only game changer for us and man, does he work his tail off for any success he achieves. Come on D! Step up and play with some kind of attitude to be deemed worthy of being a unit the team can count on. The Pack will be in deep **** { maybe .500 } if things dont start melding soon. As sports fans we think we know almost as much as coaches and coordinators but, it can be maddening when your team does not play up to their potential. May God bless this team with good health and better chemistry!
The argument can be made that their personnel match up against anybody but a few of them are rookies. This is a defense that is young, faster and talented. It's just crazy to expect them to be world-class at this stage of the season. Give 'em a chance, they need to learn the NFL game first hand and will only get better as the season progresses.
I welcome you to come back here next year and admit that they have just built a really good defense. Did anybody think going from worst to first would happen this year? I'm not blasting you cristo, but where exactly did you think they would go from the worst defense in history into a dominating one? Personally I"m pleased with the progress and will enjoy watching them mature and begin domination before the season is over. If not, well, there's the draft and next year but they definitely did it right this year.
But watch for my posts after they defeat the undefeated Texans next week.
