As the days, weeks and months drag on from the loss to the Giants in the divisional playoff round, what should have been will fade and preparation for 2012 will begin in earnest.
In the meantime, the Packers can enjoy the 70-degree weather of Hawaii (and the pools as Clay Matthews did Monday). But each player there, and there are quite a few, knows they had the talent to be in Indy for the Super Bowl. Interestingly enough, that talent needs to be upgraded according to the head coach and at least one other player.
"I'm not one to publically display the disappointment, but I am personally disappointed the season didn't go as we had planned," coach Mike McCarthy told the media this week via the Wausu Daily Herald .

Joe Philbin, the Packers offensive coordinator since 2007, is the next head coach of the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins will introduce Philbin on Saturday at a press conference scheduled for 4 p.m. ET which can be seen live on Dolphins.com.
Philbin and his family will relocate to South Florida just weeks after the tragic death of their son and brother, Michael Philbin, who passed away age 21. As Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald writes Philbin and his family will "begin a new life".
According to the Associated Press, the 50-year old Philbin first met with Miami officials on Jan. 7 and then the following day the body of his son was recovered in Oshkosh.
According to the Miami Herald he let his agents know that he would still be available for a second interview while he and his family coped with the stinging reality of what had occurred.
Miami has not actually been a model of stability. Philbin will be the seventh coach for the franchise in the last eight...

Almost to a man, the Packers would like to have Sunday back. They would like to have a do-over, not turn the ball over, not drop passes...play a clean game.
But there are no do-overs-there is just a ninth-month offseason process before the next campaign towards a Super Bowl begins.
“It’s going to be hard. I’ll be screaming at the TV, knowing we should have been there, just like every other player in the locker room will,” Jarrett Bush told the team's official website.
Mike McCarthy said there are no excuses in the Pro Football business but explained the loss this way:
"As you prepare for playoff games, the research will tell you that the three most critical areas that you have to perform very well in are taking care of the football, taking it away, third down is probably the most important, the research would tell you," the coach said.
He added, "And red-zone efficiency. I think we were balanced in the red-zone. I think we were equal...

Playoff Captains
-Coach Mike McCarthy announced playoff captains Thursday: Aaron Rodgers and Donald Drivers are offensive captains, while Charles Woodson and A.J. Hawk are defensive captains. On special teams Jarrett Bush and Mason Crosby are captains.
Weather
-The Packers practiced indoors Thursday due to weather, and simulated the wind inside the Hudson center, while adjusting the temperature in the facility to 30 degrees. Wind gusts are expected to be at 6-8 mph on Sunday. WBAY forecasts the high will be 24 and a low of 17 on Sunday.
Front who?
-So much of the conversation this week has been about what the Giants front four can do against the Packers offensive line, not a lot has been said about the pressure which the Packers hope to put on Eli Manning, and subsequently the interceptions they hope to create from that pressure.
B.J. Raji had this to say to reporters...

Packer Nation and others react to the tragic loss of Michael Philbin, the 21-year old son of Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin:
The Packers released a statement concerning the death of Michael Philbin through general manger Ted Thompson:
"The Packers family was saddened to learn of the passing of Michael Philbin, son of offensive coordinator Joe Philbin. Our thoughts and prayers are with Joe, his wife, Diane, and the Philbin family as they cope with their loss. This is an emotional and difficult time for them, and we ask that everyone respect their privacy. All of us in the Packers family share in their grief."
Andrew Brandt who worked in the Packers front office and with Philbin from 2003-2008 wrote this at the NationalFootballPost.com

Aaron Rodgers graces one of four regional covers of Sports Illustrated this week. Rodgers was also named SI senior NFL writer Peter King's pick for NFL MVP.
But King predicts the New Orleans Saints will actually advance out of the NFC, and face the Patriots, and win the Super Bowl.
-Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin has interviewed with the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs according to multiple published reports. With one of the league's best all-time offenses, Philbin it's highly possible he will be a head coach on another team next season.
Philbin has been the offensive coordinator with the Packers since 2007.
