And it's time to pay up for some of the outstanding draft picks, like Gibbs who will get close to Barkeley money eventually.

Last but hardly least: Three-time Pro-Bowl selection Jahmyr Gibbs and the Lions reached agreement today on a three-year, $67.5 million deal that could be worth up to $75.75 million and includes $51.5 million guaranteed, now making him the NFL’s highest-paid running back

2026 sounds like a good year for the players. No wonder the NFL is seeking more venues to make more money. They need it.

Thanks HE, that was fast! Wow that is big money for a RB. I think Barkeley is paid about $18m AAV. Gibbs will be at $22.5 mil AAV and maybe more. That signing bonus is huge.

No kidding milani. Gibbs is terrific, but damn that is a big number for a RB, and an eye-watering amount of guaranteed $$$.

Well the Lions, like all teams, eventually have to pay up for their good drafting. It's a good "problem" to have. I didn't realize that Gibbs has played three seasons. I thought it was two. Time flies.

Back to Kraft - when is he due to be paid? Could it happen this year? I forgot when he was drafted. Regardless GB is gonna have to pay him. Sooner is almost always better as far as $$$. Can't let that guy get away, but it's gonna be expensive.

Kraft has only this year left. I'm sure they would like to resign him. Just not in a huge hurry after the injury imho

Good point about being cautious after a major injury. It looks like Kraft will be available to start the season. Assuming he goes back to his usual production, if not more, I'm sure they'll get him signed then, mid-season.

There will be new injuries. Let us hope they are minimal, especially to the top players. We had some big losses in the MM era. Rodgers twice, Jordy, Matthews. But ironically the most successful MM season was the same year we had the most while placing 15-16 on IR. Go figure.
Yes. That’s where depth is so important. Last year we had great Starters but I felt like depth was substandard. OL, CB, DL depth hurt us in 2025. This year all 3 have been addressed to the point we should have a pretty solid bottom.
That and several starters coming off Injury designations that can help as the season develops.

Interesting. Well the Lions are sitting fiscally sound through at least 2027 and can afford to do this. I want to say they were the forefront of our division fiscally by around $40-45Mil across ‘26-‘27.

How di you figure the O line was addressed? Seems to me we got rid of a couple of starters and replaced them with our substandard depth and a 5th round draft pick.

Maybe I look at things differently there. So let’s look at our losses and gains, but before that let’s look at the effect of injury on the musical chairs.

1. Elgton Jenkins was lost to IR in Q2 of week 10 (9th game) of 2025. Elgton was very pedestrian overall after his move to Center “project” that started the prior season. He never regained his stellar 2022 Probowl season though and was very a pedestrian player at his new position. Now Rhyan came in and played admirably for someone with very limited experience at the position. IMO even a veteran OL needs a full offseason of work and a good 1/2 season of live snaps to gain momentum. That’s about where Rhyan is entering now. Even Corey Linsley struggled at Center after JC went out. That’s a starting C for OSU we’re taking about. He became a Probowler so it’s obviously not a lack of talent that had Rodgers yelling at him early on, it’s simply that that’s the captain of the OL and it’s not like playing Guard imo.

The move of Rhyan mid season thrust a Rookie OT into playing RG. Once again it’s one thing to transition from college to Pro speed and it’s another to change position, then get thrust into that new role 1/2 way into a Pro season. These are grown men they are adjusting to opposite side of the ball.

Aaron’s Banks suffered a Back injury a year ago in Camp. Then a foot injury sidelined him most of game and eventually he coupled those with a Stinger that happened mid season. He ended the season with an undisclosed illness, but it wasn’t a positive flow there. Amazingly he only missed 2 games but also missed parts of other games starting early season, including 30 snaps in Week 2 after injuring his ankle.

Zach Tom was on a similar path and playing through injury. An oblique core injury. Then an early season back flare up. Then suffered the final blow with a Patellar Tendon tear that sidelined him 5 contests to end his season. Not a good health version of Zach!

So here in 2025 we have potentially our 3 most tenured players in snaps all injured. Banks, Tom and Jenkins. That’s why we saw Kinnard and Belton so much and a constant rotation of Morgan across positions. While Morgan CAN do that, it’s not an ideal situation either.

In comes a positional breakdown.

OC Sean is getting an array of Center work across an Offseason. That combined with the confidence he now has and the regularity with Love will only continue to help him in year 2. Similar to his delayed rise at RG, he’s a good player that still needs work to grow.

LT *Jordan Morgan played 3 seasons at the University of Arizona. He was one of the Top 5 OL prospects in his draft and obviously we do homework on Day1 picks. GB saw enough of Rasheed after he hit a plateau. Rasheed wasn’t bad overall, but he was a poor graded Run blocker (see the theme here?) So far Jordan been one of the top 5 most impressive O players mentioned in Camp. It’s not surprising, it’s his natural position for once and he’s getting a full body of work at it.

LG *In enters RD5 Jacob Monk at LG to replace Banks and he’s picking up where he left off after coming off IR against MN week 18, 2025. He was one of the highest graded O players that game and we took notice. He’s probably good enough to start, but do you sit a veteran we’re paying $19mil annual? That’s a tough choice but you go with continuity imo. The only ? Is will Banks start the season on injury designation idk.

RT From all recent reports Zach is going to be ready to go Week 1. Enough said I shouldn’t have to Defend our best OL.

RG. It’s Belton’s job to lose but there a frenzy of capable players behind him.

*In enters OT John Williams from RD7 2025. He’s literally being trusted like Morgan was in 2025 and has played ALL 5 position groups thus far. He’s gotten public praise from his Coaches so much they are trying to see how to fit him in a crowded OL and he’ll get plenty of looks this Preseason.

*In enters RD5 2026, Jager Burton, who has impressed for a Rookie. He’s got the build of a prototype IOL. He’s big and farm strong and has quick feet and natural instincts.

*In enters RD6, 2024 Travis Glover. He was being praised by MLF the week leading up to his injury last season. Can he regain that momentum? Idk but he’s absolutely another option to look at that we didn’t have in 2025.

Monk, Glover, Williams, Burton are all additions because none played more than 1 game in 2025. Morgan is an addition because he was a swing fill in player all over last season. Now he gets to stay put. The largest factor imo is called continuity at OL. Having guys that play games in unison is an underestimated positive. Belton and Rhyan both get their first legit offseasons at respective positions and BOTH have quantifiable playing experience. The chances of them regressing is near zilch. If anything the crowd of guys behind them will press them forward.

The OL depth is currently the best I can remember in several seasons. To the point that it’s debatable on who starts at both Guard spots. This is why when I hear the “old news” negative talk about how we have losses over gains at OL? It just almost sounds like reporting news that’s dated imo. The Packers aren’t living in October of 2025 it’s 2026!!
