The Dodgers traded away 3 top farm prospects for Skubal. Hope was #5 in their system (#25 on MLB's top 100); Ryan was #7 (#68 on MLB's list); and Brady Smith was #17 in their fsrm system. No way were the Brewers going to gut their farm system to outbid LA.

And it becomes 162 pro wrestling matches.
Good analagy and spot on. And that doesn't count the playoffs.

Gotta wonder how players who aren't on the Dodgers deal with never having a winning team. I know, they get paid a lot to lose, but they still have pride.

So it's being reported the Brewers offered 3 Top prospects. But all Infielders. The package was Pena, and either Jett or another top 100, plus one more player. The Tigers were shopping for pitching and a top Outfield prospect at the deadline, so declined their offer. The Tigers are loaded with promising young Infielders, so I'm glad they went with the Dodgers offer.

Thanks to you and Pkrjones for the addl info on the Skubal trade. Sending the #s 5, 7, and 17 guys in their farm system is expensive. For the Brewers it likely would have been a three-month rental. The Dodgers will pay Skubal what he is worth at the end of the season and keep him. So it's not the same situation as the Brewers, who would have been mortgaging their future for a WS run.

And of all places for Skubal to go - the Dodgers……. Oh well, the Crew are playing terrific BB right now and will be in the Dodgers' way in October.

Poker pointed out the talent that would be lost and argued persuasively against the trade. I was still in favor of the trade, but it was close. I'm not that disappointed. The Brewers have a great team and October will (better) be fun.

Milwaukee is the only team Tracking 100+ Wins through the 70% of the season mark. Would be nice to separate from the Cubs a little. Chicago has had a few hot streaks as well and they seemingly won’t go away.
I’d like to see the Cubs drop back to -7 -8 games back area in the next week or two. That would be harder to recover from with a 1/4 season to play.

Yeah the Brewers now have the best record in baseball with 71 wins, 2 more than the Dodgers.

Chicago is only 5.5 games behind. That's a little too close with August here and September on the horizon. Some cushion would be welcome.

Agree. Let's face it, the Dodgers use other teams, but more importantly, money, to obtain their top players.

I think the Dodgers just lollygag through the regular season because they can ... and then turn up the gas in the playoffs with all of that bought and paid for talent... Last season made we want to puke... I doubt anyone touches them again this season.

Sounds almost like Brady and the Pats in previous decades.

If they don't have to win their division it signals too easy to get in the playoffs/ too many teams.

It sure seems that way weeds. I recall that last year they had a good regular season and then rounded into form for the playoffs. Toronto gave them a good run in the WS, but the Dodgers are just too deep.

They sure made the Crew look pedestrian.
