The more I come back to this, I’m holding onto Malik this season. imo The only way I’d change that stance is if GB somehow just absolutely tanked for 6 games.

I just cannot get to the 'never' place unless we tank personally. If I'm Gute sitting in my office and a team calls and the starts of their offer is a Day2 2025 and a conditional up to Day2 in 2026 I would be doing my position a disservice by not thinking it through and considering.

It is insanely rare that a team so committed to a QB wins the SB with their backup - yes it HAS happened, but again the exception should never be considered the rule.

There isn't a team in that position to even consider this....yet...but who knows what the future holds.

I can see that. For me many decisions I’d make if I were a fictitious Team GM are based on risk. If I’m poised to go the distance or I feel like I can reasonably get to an NFC game etc. No way do I want Elgersma (as much as I actually like him) leading the charge this early. Clifford is finally at the level I think he could Win 2 of 5 and that’s not an insult. He's still not refined enough though. Malik Heath and his duo threat ability to punish teams with his legs would compliment our Kicking game, our Running game and he’s an adequate level Passer also. His maturity and preparation are on full display. Even with our backups protecting him.
My opinion would change if we were in rebuild mode.

If I looked across the Roster and wasn’t confident we could surpass 2024 level? I might trade him. Past that it’d have to be a Day1 in some capacity (trading picks)

Um....if you trade Malik, you're signing a Tyler Huntley or a Carson Wentz or another experienced starter of the past that is out there. You're not rocking Elgersma out there.

I think we'd have a better chance with Elgersma than Clifford.

Except those guys aren't taking you anywhere imho. Might as well roll the dice with the Canadien. Really doubt we are going to lose two QBs but you never know.

That could be said of nearly every back up if looking across the landscape of history....however Huntley is far more refined and game ready than most backups. As would be say even Dorian Thompson-Robinson who was just released from Eagles...

If we did this trade, I'm guessing the guy we'd bring in isn't even released yet or Gute has a guy circled to go target in a trade.

I was just going to say that. If we netted a 2nd for Malik (hypothetical). Then used a 4th Rounder in trade to get a preferred choice if Love missed time? I can see that.

Well it's just my opinion. Huntley? Barf. Another opinion.

I think you take this forum a little too seriously. I never "accused you of deliberately picking on" me.
When you accuse me of deliberately "putting words in your mouth" to harass you, that is a textbook definition of "picking on someone". To claim otherwise is nothing short of idiotic.

This is one of the nicest, friendliest message boards I've ever seen, and the users here are some of the most levelheaded and mature people I've ever met on the internet. You've got about, what... 15, 16 posts here, and I think roughly half of them feature you trying to start a fight, accusing someone else of trying to start a fight, threatening someone, warning someone that they'd better not dare mess with you, because "it won't e pretty", or just generally shaking your fist and boasting about how fierce you are.

That's not normal. In fact, it's just plain weird.

I've been on the internet about 30 years, and in that time I think I've run into 5, maybe 6 people who were so annoying I put them on ignore. And this is certainly the first time it's only taken a single interaction to get there.

He really did some amazing stuff. I think my favorite game was on a Monday night in Oakland, just a few days after his father passed away.

Favre had a career game with, I think, 399 yards. When it came to playing football, there is no one else quite like Favre.
That was a magical game; a "Disney movie" sort of game. The receivers gathered together before the game, and vowed they were going to catch every single ball.

He started with 9 consecutive completions, and in the first half alone had 311 yards and 4 TDs, for a 158.3 rating - it was 155 at the end of the game, highest of his career. He was getting standing ovations from Raider's fans, in Oakland... when has that ever happened before?

NFL.com calls it the 52nd greatest game ever played, but I think they screwed him. The only football game I ever watched with tears running down my cheeks. I think I may watch it again tonight on Youtube....

According to Easton Butler of 247 Sports’ Packer Report, the Bengals inquired about a trade for backup quarterback Malik Willis. Butler later tweeted that Cincinnati offered its 2026 sixth-round pick in exchange for Willis.

That would be about THE stupidest trade that the Packers could make.

This is a very solid team, but if they lose Love to injury.....and don't have Willis....good bye season.

If I were Gute, I would put on my answering machine:

"Hi Brian Gute here. If you are calling to inquire about a trade for Malik Willis please hang up if you are looking at anything less than a 2nd round pick. Even then, its probably a no"...*beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep*

Well....I guess the Packers 4th best QB (Sean Clifford) in camp was good enough for the Bengals...

"The Bengals, who plan to start Jake Browning after the Burrow injury, agreed to sign Clifford to their practice squad. After reportedly trying to contact the Packers to see if they would trade away Willis, Cincinnati decided that the next-best thing would be getting someone from the Green Bay system."

I question this even being legit...think about it. A 6th???

Malik will likely sign a $14M-$20M / yr deal in FA and that would likely at WORST mean Bengals get a 6th back in compensatory if not higher....that is such an ignorant offer to Gute I doubt it is true.

Could be the offers wasn't a 6th, but if you look on line, a lot of different sources are saying the Bengals wanted to trade for Willis.

Hopefully, Malik won't play a snap for Green Bay this season, but he is THE key #1 backup at ALL positions for the Packers.

Right. There is no one else who could step in for Love with even moderate success than Willis. 2 seasons in which Rodgers went down proved disastrous except for Matt Flynn who saved the season.

A lot of those "sources" are recycling same "source" - it's how it all works.

Yup....same source that took those pictures of Parsons with dogs LOL
There’s possibly some truth to the Rescue work. Micah really does a fine job promoting and encouraging the betterment of others. Look what he’s done for the Dogs in Green Bay!

It takes a Dog to understand Dogs!

I said this in the other Malik trade thread, but if we traded him (which I am not in favor of) I would demand a decent backup QB in exchange plus a draft pick. If it's Cincy, I want Browning for Willis plus maybe their 3rd round pick.

I'm not sacrificing a potential SB run this season just to get a future draft pick.

Nah that page shared and few others are literally TRASH of social media - they literally make up fictitious quotes and share the **** purely for clicks and make more money from the traffic they pull than many of us ever would make with just a side job...and some perhaps even main/full time gigs. Those pages disgust me a TON

IF a team is trading for Malik, there is almost guaranteed chance it is because they don't have a decent backup....BUT that said I 100% get what you're saying and also think that would be a solid move. Or even a young depth guy buried in another position that GB's scouting department really liked their draft year.

Browning is a good QB IMO. Cincy wants someone that can win all season - that's Willis. Browning can win you some games - that's what we would need at a minimum.
