Especially in that Comp selection area. Teams might have a hole to fill, but only 6-7 selections if they traded away a selection previously etc.. and that makes a late 4th or 6th rounders value really appealing. You can often get a top #140-low 200’s player selection to fill out that specialist role out of the gate. LS, P, K, KR or even a backup QB. Who would’ve ever thought Tom Brady would’ve come out of later rounds? Sometimes having another dart throw from a few steps back at least gives you that outside chance of a bullseye. Plus in a year where Cap is an issue those are great value selections.I still wouldn't be shocked if Gute uses NEXT year picks given the known compensation coming back to really move in this draft or pump another pick or so. Could see a trade back + some moving back up in a round or two honestly. TONS of draft capital...not as much as some teams but very balanced depth of picks.
We know that all too well as both Linsley and Jones were 5th Rounders. Those 2 players alone combined to change the entire dynamics of our Offense and I bet we’ll see a nice return on investment for Linsley even after he’s gone.
I’m not sure about this draft in particular yet, but in certain years the value of a draft can come more in the middle. Some drafts are strong at the top but weaker in the middle. Some drafts strong at a few player positions and weak across the board on others. Luckily we have in house experts that research those player grades as a whole and they understand a little better when it’s ok to trade a player and move into certain areas of the board. I’m not an expert (except occasional self professed) but I’ve always liked that day 2 area for WR and early day 3 for RB or ILB.
As much as I tend to want a WR for Aaron snd I gripe about it, I’d rather keep him on his feet and get a OL blocking grinder early in the selections to keep an aging MVP healthy (or get someone who can be disruptive to their OL or a CB that has shutdown instincts like J’aire).
