Menominee was a fairly close-knit community for a long time. My family was French-Canadian and English Canadian settling there in the 1800s. That's my family heritage on my dad's side. I remember, as a child, when we'd visit, we'd go to the French Catholic Church for Mass on Sundays. Who knows? You and I might be shirt-tail relatives. A lot of the families are related to each other there, still today.
Maybe. I don't have any French in me though, that I'm aware of, despite my fascination with French pop.
I am a quarter Belgian, however.

Ah.....! You're related to Hercule Poirot? My favorite detective.
As far as I know, I'm not related to any fictional characters that I'm aware of - neither Hercule Poirot nor Ross Perot, for that matter.
Anyway, my family had already settled into Wisconsin and the UP by the time Poirot's books came out.

My Mom once told me that I was "A son of a b*tch. I don't think that she truly understood the irony of her proclamation! :coffee:

Un petit.
Sometimes I ask Google AI a question about something French, and it gives me an answer in French. So I type in "En angalis, s'il vous plait", and it gives me the answer in English. I don't know why I get a kick out of that, but I do.

I wish I could speak French. I'd love to go up to Canada and meet relatives who live there. From what I've been told, the majority count French as their first language. Most of them live in the Montreal area, and a little town named Hawkesbury, Ontario, which is predominantly French too.

I only know how to say or do 3 things in French. French Fries, French Toast and French Kiss.

My father would sit and watch the hockey games when the Blackhawks played in Montreal. He pronounced all the Canadien players' names perfectly. And when the stadium announcer spoke in French he would interpret it. But I loved those names: Beliveau, Richard, Plante, Rousseau, Cournoyeur, Tremblay, Provost. And when they won the Cup it was Nous Sommes Les Mieux!

I can pronounce the names. In the group you mentioned, I have distant cousins named Believeau, Richard, and Provost. Plus at least a dozen others with large numbers directly tied to family.

I was always a Blackhawks fan but did enjoy watching the Habs play. Especially when the player draft gave them all the French-Canadians out of Quebec for starters automatically. Loved running through those names.
