Right now you keep Jacobs and see if Lloyd has any chance of making it back on the football field. The Packers need experience. Jacobs does not have to be the every down back he was. And he can make crucial catches when you need them. Just get him some blocking.
Can't argue with that....
But there is a down side to that for Jacob's. Unless he is top 3 RB or leads the league in something like TDs or yds. He will be top of the list to cut in 2027, clearing like $13 mil cap space.
The guys coming up for contracts in 2026 and 2027 especially. Watson will need an extension too at some point. There's some big home grown names coming up for deals...
Along that line of thinking. We could trade or drop Jacob's and clear $5 mil this year, and his full $16m next year off the books.... When that money is going to be needed.... I'm a big advocate of having a top tier RB. It's a huge advantage to have an elite RB getting 20 touches a game.
But GB is unique in my opinion. We have a HUUUUGE untapped resource on offense. Our WRs and TEs are so dominant and have depth. I swear, we could just eliminate the RB spot, and put another target out there. Just do the 5 yd handoffs. Bring back the Favre slant. That was deadly. One of the 5 targets is ALWAYS open. Zippppp..... 1st down!!!! Lol.
But seriously. Concentrate on protecting Love. If that means adding Olinemen, then do it. Hell, make him a blocking TE and give love another emergency dump off option.
But the object is to take the top off and use the whole field. Make the defense cover 40+ yds down field. Watson, Williams up the sidelines, with Golden, Reed slicing up the middle, or cleaning up behind them. Start catching Williams and Golden in those 5 yd handoff slants, instead of some slow progressing handoff in the backfield....
Let Kraft be the dump off guy, while he builds confidence in his knee. Box out those LBs,,, 1st downnnn!!! Or Wicks. He is a bigger target who can be a short yardage specialist.
We need a hard 1 yd on the goal line? In comes Gary. Lmao! Earning some of that fat check as a part time hitman on the goal line.... Come in like a canon ball and jump over if he has to. Show off that freak athlete gift God gave him. The way they're giving out problems now days? He could be a pro bowl RB before it's all over. Lmao.
But honestly. If the strategy is to work well. We don't want to bring more defenders up to the line. The idea is to force a prevent defense. And every time they try to get to Love, we strike deep... Until they're on damage control. Kraft is a perfect dump off guy for 2026. The defense starts getting to Love?, start sprinkling in extra dump off targets. If they start stacking the secondary too much, give love the go ahead to look for and take the easy yards any time the defense gives him room to run... Don't get injured. But take the easy yards, and call it a RB supplement. Between Love taking the yards given on the ground from prevent defenses. Designed 5x target quick slants, and emergency dump offs... I bet the running game would be safely supplemented, numbers wise. And I think our pass attack would be greatly increased in production down field.... Like record breaking...
I miss captainWimm. He wouldve given me a whole thesis on how wrong I am. Lmao. But honestly... I think Love and this corps of receivers. Give them twice the pass attempts. And see how many defenses break. Maybe test the strategy on a few weak secondaries next year. Start practicing opening this pass attack up full throttle...
