Rodgers was a top OVERALL prospect, not just a top ten :)

Rodgers was never a top overall prospect. The 49ers have a cheap owner and were thinking about taking the player that would of demanded less money and because he's an area kid. That's the only reason why Rodgers was mentioned to SF last year and when they pass him that's the reason why he fell. Nobody else saw anything in him.

Aaron Rodgers was predicted to go first over all in the draft. It was between he and Alex Smith.

Re Read my post. He was never a top prospect. He was never going to go #1 overall. It was always going to be Alex Smith. The only team in the top 20 considering him was the 49ers. Does that make you an elite prospect? Because one team is considering taking someone from the local area? No it doesn't..

If Alex Smith was in this draft he wouldn't go top 10. Cutler, Young, Leinart, M. Williams, Bush, Ferguson, Davis, Hawk, Huff, and Justice are all better prospects than anybody in last years Draft.

Read MY post.

The point you are failing to recongize is this. You said "Rodgers was never a top overall prospect. " You fail to realize he WAS thought of going first overall to the 49ers. There was talk the 49ers would trade down to number five and grab him if still available. The 49ers took the better athlete, Alex Smith.

Cardinals, Redskins and even the Raiders were considering taking him if I remember correctly.

You've made your point you don't like Rodgers. I get it. You're statement that he wasn't figured in going first overall is completely... inaccurate.

those teams had their QB situation set up, it wasnt their #1 need at the time. I remember Miami being one of the only ones that where there was talk that they'd take Rodgers the QB.

this isnt a hindsight debate, it is a "at that time, what they needed" situation. should those teams have probably picked a QB? Yeah boy! But in their minds they had their situation set up.

He's not a top 10 prospect. Did you work in the war room for SF? If you have Insider the whole time it was stating SF is considering Alex Smith with the #1 overall pick last year. Smith was their guy from the get go. If he's an elite prospect which is #1 overall worthy he wouldn't of falling to us at #24. He wasn't an elite prospect such as Young.

Edit: I like the fact for once there can be a debate of the forum without name calling.. :p

Cleveland, Arizona, Miami, Tennessee.. Just off the top of my head. I'll look for more teams that needed a QB ahead of us.

Edit: Add Washington at #9. All those teams right there picked in the top 10. 2 of them went QB in this Draft on the First Day to be their starters. Tennessee and Miami needed guys for the future and passed on him. Elite prospects don't fall like that.

Oh. Now we're saying 'elite prospects' ... I give up. You obviously are way too out there to understand. I can't debate with someone who changes his comments. Have a good day.

Oh this topic is about Young, oops lol.

If we draft Young we ought to trade him for a lot of picks.

Browns had Trent Dilfer at QB.
Dolphins had Gus Ferrotte at QB
Redskins has Ramsey and Brunnell coming of a horrible season.
Cardinals had Kurt Warner at QB.

None of those guys are what I call young QB's. None of those guys had standout years the year before. Add the fact that Cleveland and Washington took QB's (Fyre and Campbell) to be their starters. One in round 1 the other in round 3... That's the perfect example to why Rodgers dropped. Only one team wanted him in the top 10 and he wasn't very good so they passed on him and he dropped because he wasn't very good.

I was unaware you were in any of the war rooms. You are right. I must discredit every source and forget every comment about Rodgerts made at the draft. You know the ones saying 'wow another team passes on Rodgers, i can't believe this' They knew nothing and you did because you were in all war rooms where they were saying what a awful player Rodgers is :)

No one expected Rodgers to fall that far down. NO ONE. The Draft world was stunned.

Maybe this is what you wanna hear. Do I think he was the best player in that draft class? No. The best QB? Honestly, I have to say no. I really liked Charlie Frye (I have no reason why, but I just had a good feeling about the guy at the time and I didn't know anything about any of the QB's)

Rodgers was said to settle the QB position for 10-15 years while being an All-Pro.

I hope you post here while you reside in those same war rooms this upcoming draft that would be most excellent!

That's why MM did not take him when he was the coach at San Fran. How far did he drop in the draft? :?: How many collegiate championships did Rodgers bring in? :?: I wonder if MM is safe with Rodgers possibly at the helm. This is just me thinking out the draft (which I know I should not do< I am far from a pro) possibilitys. I actually have no idea if he will be the next great QB or not. This was a great post. I agree with it.. I actually write mock drafts for a site and I have Hawk going to GB not Young. I'm pretty much saying don't be shocked if this happened and I'm one of the few that like the idea of drafting Young and trading Rodgers.

Possibility. I think they'd trade Young though. I've got a ... wait Rodgers didn't play at all last year so they don't have a year of tape to watch of him. Crap. I don't know now.

I'm going to have a headache if I try to think of all the possibilities right now.

I did. I'll pm you with the link to another forum where I had Aaron Rodgers going the pick after us to Washington. You'll see the post with the time as well. A day before the Draft was my final update mock draft. :D

I hope Mario is there too. I really like what I've read about him from the combine. I'm a little worried about the rumors saying he takes plays off though. Hawk would be a great addition as well, I feel.

MM took the better athlete which there is no question Alex Smith is a better athlete then Rodgers. He dropped to 24th pick for the Packers which was a HUGE surprise to dang near everyone with knowledge of the draft.

The NFL invites a certain amount of college players to the Draft. I believe its six. Rodgers was one of them and if he wasn't considered to be an overall first pick he wouldn't have been invited.

I think the Packers will do 3 things. Draft Mario Williams (who I want the most) Draft AJ Hawk or Draft Vince Young. I'm not sure if we'll be able to trade down. Maybe but we earned that #5 pick by having a bad year we might as well add someone who could potentially be an all star caliber player there instead of trading down a ways. Though knowing TT I'm sure that's what he has in mind.

If we do draft Young I think they trade Rodgers for maybe a 2nd round and a 4th round pick. He's young and healthy and was a first round pick which makes him valueable where as Culpepper was injured. Or we trade him for a player. Someone on defense possibly a CB. Maybe Clements of Buffalo and we throw in some picks to make the deal fair?

24. Green Bay Packers - Shaun Cody, DT USC | Aaron Rodgers right. Not quite. The Packers need defense and need to win now. Cody will play DT for them and give them a great inside pass rush. Every year we wait for the sucessor to Favre name to be called but every year it doesn\'t happen but I think they will take Fyre in the 2nd round cause I heard they like him a lot.

Nice guess on Rodgers falling that far. Very nice indeed. Who did Cody get picked by? I don't remember hearing his name at all.

Right now.. I change it week to week but as of my last one it's

1. Texans - Bush
2. Saints - D'Brick
3. Titans - Leinart
4. Jets - M. Williams
5. Pack - Hawk

D'Brick and Williams could easily be switched though..

D'Brick and Williams could easily be switched though..

1) Houston - Bush [I think they use Bush as WR or trade Davis and use Bush as RB] *I'm not too high on Bush personally.

2) New Orleans - Lienart [Bree's contract is essentially a one year deal or a very expensive multi year contract.] *This is a big reach

3) Tennessee - Young [Without McNair they will look for a QB who is most similar to McNair hoping for the same success]

4) New York - D'Brick [With Leinart and Young off the board they will take D'Brick, or trade down and grab Cutler]

5) Green Bay - Mario Williams [It starts at the line. Mario will make Barnett, Poppinga and Manning look good and provide that needed rush to help out the secondary]

I'm joining this thread late but I believe Rodgers was a top 10 choice ONLY to San Fran. If the rest of the league was thrilled with him somebody would have traded up to get him from one of the teams that didn't need a QB.

I'm willing to give him a chance but he never really impressed me in college. If TT drafts VY he'd probably want to trade Rodgers, but I think you would only get a 3-4 rounder. Might as well keep him and see if he develops.

Sorry for cropping your quote, but I had to in order to validate my point (me impersonating the media)

Of course, since only one team had the number one overall pick and that team was San Fran.
