Night Practices Continue For '07 Training Camp

Continuing a variation on the traditional training camp begun last year, the Green Bay Packers will hold eight night practices this summer as part of the 2007 training camp schedule released by the team on Monday. Training camp opens with a full-squad, full-pads workout at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 28, on Clarke Hinkle Field, adjacent to the Don Hutson Center. The first night practice will be held the next day, on Sunday, July 29, at 6:30 p.m. Seven of the eight night practices are preceded by a morning workout at 8:45 a.m.

Family Night, Presented by Fox 11, is slated for Saturday, Aug. 4, at Lambeau Field. The on-field football portion of the event, which concludes with fireworks, kicks off at 6:30 p.m. The team will hold six practices over the first four days of camp before an off day on Wednesday, Aug. 1. The non-traditional off days, also scheduled for the following two Wednesdays (Aug. 8 and 15), will consist of meetings and film review in the mornings, with most players getting the afternoon and evening off to recoup for two practices the following day. As is customary, the team will not practice on the days following preseason games, nor on the day following the annual Family Night scrimmage. In addition, if scheduled, practices the day before preseason games will not be open to the public.

Important dates on the preseason calendar:

* Saturday, July 28 - First practice, 2 p.m., Hinkle Field (full pads)

* Sunday, July 29 - First night practice, 6:30 p.m., Hinkle Field (full pads)

* Saturday, Aug. 4 - Family Night intra-squad scrimmage, 6:30 p.m., Lambeau Field

* Tuesday, Aug. 28 - Last practice open to public, 10 a.m., Hinkle Field (shells); NFL-mandated roster reduction, to 75 players

* Saturday, Sept. 1 - NFL-mandated roster reduction, to 53 players

An economic boon for the Green Bay area, training camp annually attracts approximately 100,000 visitors and gives the local economy a $35 million boost, according to the Packer Country Regional Tourism Office. Camp again will welcome visitors from all over the country, and all over the world. This marks Green Bay's 62nd training camp, a tradition that began in 1946 under Curly Lambeau. One of the most intimate preseason settings in the NFL, Packers training camp is unique in several respects. Players have been riding kids' bicycles to practice since the Vince Lombardi era, and the team has lived in the dorm rooms at nearby St. Norbert College since 1958, the league's longest training camp relationship between a team and school.

Sorry but what are shells?
Those are light weight shoulder pads. They are not heavy like the full pads.
(Full ones are the ones they use in real game action)

Hey.....no problem! The only way you can learn things is by asking questions!
I try to go up to Green Bay at least once every summer to watch practice. I got some great photos that way!
