Even though that's the largest SB the total deal is less than I was expecting!!

The SB can now be spread out over 5 yrs ('25 - '29) @ just over $6mil/yr. His '25 cash haul is his base $3.406 + $30.2 SB = $33.606mil. '25 cap # = $3.406mil + $6.04 SB. Next 4 yrs cap #'s will be $6.04mil (prorated SB) + whatever base salaries are. Still allows cap space for more extensions & emergency Super Bowl bolstering additions. ;) Hopefully Tom keeps playing well & staying healthy.

Also now it makes no point to me fiscally to even consider signing Rasheed. BetweenMorgan and Belton one of them I’d bet on for LT when Walker is gone

I would have to agree with you. Banks at $77mil, and Tom at $88mil, that's a lot of $$$ tied up on the OL.... Not to mention Big E's contract dilemma needs to be figured out. We can't pay everyone, and 2 high draft picks have been spent.

In other news, we cut our International player, K Alex Hale.

We signed WR Will Sheppard, Undrafted WR out of Colorado. Tall, 6'3", was pretty good at contested catches.

Hale being international didn’t eat a spot technically that’s odd…likely means we have eye on a different international or we are gonna sign a different kicker to be our 2

Really sounds very fair. Sure it’s higher than we’re used to, but these contracts Escalate annually. My first impression was this was spot on his market. I love this guy, I know he was a favorite of yours @tynimiller a couple drafts ago, it was a good call, Tom has turned out to be a total Stud. Especially for a Day 3? Selection. Wow Gute hit a Bullseye with this player.

I’m not sure how Elgton is going to proceed. He played exceptionally well against the Pass Rush last season (Top 3?) However Elgton had the 2nd Most Run block snaps at Guard in the entire league. His Run block grade? Low 60’s which is smack dab average. The issue is we are a heavy Run Offense now (most Run snaps since 2003) and that does not fit Jenkins strength imo. Nothing personal but we already have his replacement.

Jenkins is under contract and there’s at least 2-3 guys itching to take his spot. He was put on Non Football Injury possibly to give more time to sort this out.
The wonderful thing about our FO is they do a fantastic job signing players with multiple skill sets across various roles. That comes in handy, especially in a hold out scenario.

The other aspect is we have several newer additions (and a couple veterans) who have all Camp and Preseason to compete for starter at Center. I’m almost leaning for us to scrape the huge Cap Savings and work out a trade ($13-15M varying estimates). If there’s an AFC team with excellent CB depth but in need of an OL that’s one thought for trade partner.

Personally if his head isn’t in this I’m promoting someone else. The wonderful thing about our FO is they do a fantastic job signing players with multiple skill sets across various roles. That comes in handy, especially in a hold out scenario. I’d be fully prepared to move on and scrape his $13m or other reports of $15Mil added Cap. That goes a long ways these days.

The team can really afford to hold steady on Jenkins IMO. Rhyan practiced and even i think had some center snaps (very few) but im fine with running Walker - Banks - Monk/Rhyan or free agent signing - Morgan - Tom as starters if Jenkins really does hold out

Yes. Plus My gut meter tells me we’ve got a few OL that will be really good just waiting in the wings. In a phone booth I thing Rhyan or Monk could do fine and I’m leaning Rhyan early on. That possibly gets Jordan Morgan at RG or LT and even Belton competing at RG. I recall a couple scouts saying RT would be ideal for Belton OR reduce him inside to RG early on while developing him. If they lifted Belton’s Run block ability he’d be formidable at 6’6X340lb

Morgan-Banks-Rhyan-Belton-Tom.

A recent article Jenkins stated he felt he played too heavy last year & with his move to OC he trimmed down 10-15 lbs to 309. Claims he's more mobile, now.

Gute commented he wanted the OL to be bigger & nastier to be better run blockers... so why would Elgton lose weight unless he's anticipating a trade? At the heavier weight he was marginally abive average at Run Blocking. I'm very onboard with Rhyan or Monk at OC, Belton RG & Morgan battling for LT or Swing Tackle.

@Poppa San

Maybe we can get this thread merged with the 2025 roster thread that @tynimiller created in February?

Or now that the off season is over we recreate everything in a preseason/camp assessment thread. More clicks for @Shaggy revenue stream.

Will Sheppard is an interesting pickup up. It’s just such a deep WR room, I would think at best he’s a player fighting for a spot on the Practice Squad. Just doing little research, what Will lacks in deep speed (4.59) he makes up for with a variety of good traits. He can catch in traffic. He’s displayed 1-handed ability and he’s done it while contorting his body. He has good field at finding holes. Once he’s caught the ball, he’s good at making shifty cut moves to gain YAC. He has good focus in traffic locating and finishing the catch. He’s experienced after playing 5 seasons, but as a 4-year starter. He’s well built at 6’2” 205lb. Will displays a great high point with a near 40” vertical and as former Track Star who excelled in the high jump. Will reminds me of someone who might fight for a spot as the successor to Doubs. Great possession Receiver, but won’t wow anyone with Long plays. Nice Redzone target with lots of TD’s in both HS and College. Performed at a high level against Top competition in the SEC.

Similar player Comp to our Geronimo floor level. Although Will is a little more dense and would his Turbo version, with a more athletic ceiling and better in the Paint.

Bo Melton now wears #16. He’s also listed as CB on the depth chart. He played the CB position throughout High School, but flipped to WR at Rutgers.

Gute mentioned that when they brought Bo in they explored different ways to use him and one was at CB. However at that time we needed more depth at WR so we went that route.

I guess it doesn’t hurt at all to try him out at Corner. Bo actually has good size for a CB at 5’11X190lb. He’s also exceptionally fast (4.34 X 40) and 1.53sec 10-yard and very strong (18X 225lbs). Bo has requisite Teams experience playing 34% of the snaps in 2024.

I like what Andy Herman is reporting about Dontayvion Wicks.

"Wicks looks fantastic. Getting open per usual - catching everything his way,"

Freddie Boston in one of his articles thought that maybe people are going to have to start referring to him as "Davantayvion". Obviously, making the connection between Wicks and Davante Adams, both having similar issues of drops early in their careers.

I'll put it this way, if Doubs had the knack for route running and that separation ability of Wicks, Doubs would be a 1500 yard receiver already. Wicks separation is not special it is a work of art.
