Benkert will be 27 when TC opens... Cole Kelley will be 25 before Halloween. Question is how much time do you devote to developing these "young QB's"? If Kelley makes it to round 7 I'd grab him and let him compete in TC.

FYI - AR has 10-1/8" hands, Love has 10-1/2" hands, Benkert's are 9-1/2", and Kelley has 9-7/8" if that matters to a cold-weather QB. ;)

All their hand sizes are more than adequate.

I know it's not an "official" visit (well, yet, anyways, who knows...) but I'm kinda curious about our interest in Spiller. Truthfully I wouldn't be shocked to see us take another RB, but at the same time I'd be surprised if he makes it any later than like the 3rd round or so, so I'd kinda be surprised if we took one quite that early. IIRC it was reported a while back that we were keeping our eye on Dameon Pierce (Florida), too...
Probably a decent chance this is Jones' last season - 20m cap hit next season and I don't know that they'd wanna restructure when he'll be turning 29 that year - but even still there's Dillon and I thought the team was really high on Hill before his injury. I wonder how he is recovering....

Packers staff, especially under Gute, has never not fully delved into players no matter positions. Gute has proven if a prospect he feels 'fell' further than they should have he will without hesitation draft despite not a current need.....I mean Rashan Gary when both Smiths and Fackrell were here....Dillon when both Jones and Williams (lesser example as both in final contract year but still)....Stokes was drafted when Jaire, King and Sully all back....

Spiller interest makes sense given he fits all the typical parameters for GB and would do well in the MLF system. While we are no doubt looking at Jones likely in last year with his contract how it is...I don't see us taking any RB till Day 3 at earliest and truthfully I suspect not till 6th.

Appears two more coming in...

Eric Johnson DL from Missouri State. He is a 6'4' 299lb guy with poor exhibited strength from what I've seen and his bench rep was a mere 11...which honestly I wonder if that was a mistake...anyways he ran a 4.88 and all his splits are of the elite level for a DT. Excellent cone, vertical and broad as well all at "elite" deemed levels. He is a later Day 3 guy most likely, but this could be a sign of them desiring to be active with Day 3 in depth building at DL now that Reed was added. His RAS is 9.15

Josh Thompson CB from Texas is the other. 5'11' and 194 lbs dude has a RAS of 9.54. He is a very familiar with zone defenses and did well throughout time at Texas. He has projections as a safety as well. Ran a 4.4 and honestly every single "measurable" was good to elite. Personally I see him as a early Day 3 option that I don't makes it through the 6th at worst and could go as early as late 4th IMO.

Sounds like Johnson is a fast climber up some peoples boards, despite not being invited to the combine. Prior to the internet, guys like this probably went undrafted or only a limited amount of teams knew much about him.

Awesome. His father Eric had a cup of coffee with the Jets, I have been told. I don't remember exactly where he placed at 220 lbs in the Illinois High School State wrestling tournament, but it was definitely top 3. He was our (Illinois Outsiders) 220lber at the Disney Duals that year. The dual meet tournament at the time was a top off-season National Event. So I have personally spent time coaching him. He has a younger brother (Dillon) who was State Champ at HWT. this year for Joliet Catholic Academy as a sophomore. The high school team I coach is in the same conference. Our hwt. who was a returning State qualifier had to wrestle him in the conference semi finals. It was not pretty. Dillon is a beast and an even better football player than a wrestler I am told. Eric is a good kid from a good family. He is on the older side if memory serves. It would be nice to see him play on Sunday's and why not for the Pack.

I’d take linemen, especially defense, with a strong wrestling background all day. It would almost be a prerequisite for me if I was a scout.

Yeah some other guys that I have coached on Illinois National teams that have finished at least top 3 at 220 or hwt. are the Allen brothers. All 3 of them played center at Michigan State. My favorite college play was when they put older brother Jack in the backfield in a blow out win over Penn ST. and younger brother Brian pulled and led him into the end zone. Jack was on a few practice squads with most of his time with the Saints. Brian is the starting center for the Super Bowl Champs and Matt will be in this years draft. Also Nicky Allegretti has been a starter on the O-Line for the Chiefs. My favorite pro play this year was when Nicky caught a TD pass from Mahomes as an eligible receiver. He used one of his wrestling moves to shed the DLineman to get open. All great kids from great families.

This (and the previous) GM have a history of drafting best value with an eye toward position group of players with expiring contracts 12 months out. In other words, he will be drafting for the 23 season and beyond. I expect him to draft a RB to replace Jones spot on the roster. Wouldn't be surprised in the least if it were in Round 2 or 3 if their guy is available. Dillon was their guy 2 years ago when they were staring at 2 expiring contracts after 20 season.

Gotta disagree with this. Teams have had bird dogs sniffing out these prospects forever. Coaches and scouts have connections even in the dark corners of the universe.

Josh Thompson ended up not confirmed or occurring. However, added Tariq Carpenter and Samori Toure....both many will remember I've mocked and discussed what I like. Will just paste in:

Tariq - The hybrid Day 3 LB/Safety is a guy that was used in coverage a lot but is built like a LB. Some say he played as light as 190 at GT, but bulked up more and more in his final year and at the combine came in at 6'2' 230lbs. He has elite level figures for speed and that build at 4.52 forty (1.55 10 yard split), 39 inch vertical is incredible and his broad is over eleven feet. His shiftiness isn't his strength but the speed and burst makes up for it. You want to drop down box safety that cannot be manhandled by TEs in coverage or even blocking at times, Tariq is that unique situational sub package Safety that can easily be used by Barry - especially if he excels on STs as nearly everyone feels he will. He's a safety built like a light LB, that has vertical of a CB...and faster than nearly any TE he could be tasked with covering. Overall RAS is 8.91

Samori - A small school transferred to Nebraska to bet on himself against higher competition and it paid off. On an abysmal team where he was arguably their only WR threat he continued to perform and put up solid figures. Finishing the 2021 campaign with 898 yards on 46 receptions (that is 19.5 YPC) and 5 TDs. That was after his 2020 campaign at Montana where he put up 1,495 yards on 87 receptions with a 17.2 YPC and 13 touchdowns! I'm very curios to see how he runs and what his other measurables are at the Nebraska Pro Day as we have no data yet there...but look for where Toure if he is available in the 5th on...I think this kid has "it" and could be the poor man's Lazard of the future should Lazard just simply not be affordable at his tender level. His RAS results if curious overall were 6.11. His forty isn't bad at 4.48 but of course isn't burner speed, vertical is lacking and broad is above average. His only elite measurable is the 3 cone which he excelled at for a 6.77 time.

This will make a few people here happy and I like him as well. I didn't realize that his Dad was drafted by the Packers back in 1993. Couldn't find much on his Dad, except that he never played for the Packers and was on the Chiefs team later that year.

LOL...dear lord I hope not, that would most likely result in way too heavy of picks from one position group (WR).

I will admit though to like each of the prospects they've brought in. Eric Johnson is a Day 3 guy I really love...as is Kingsley Jonathan (DE/EDGE hybrid) from Syracuse. I really want one of those two added in 7th or as a UDFA

Interesting though how 1/2 the visits so far, are with WR's. This tells me that there is a slight chance Gute drafts a WR. ;)

I was considering in the draft contest taking the #5-19 rated WRs and top 5 TEs banking on getting 3 or 4 names plus one correct round for the win.

Honestly I like the idea of four sure including a WR in each of the first four rounds in that contest and for sure mix another in later.

Agree with both of you. The Packers don't just need help at WR in 2022, they need it for years to come. Watkins, Cobb and Lazard are sitting on 1 year deals. Amari and the rest of the JAGS haven't shown us that they will be productive WR's just yet.

I would not be surprised if we see the Packers take 2 WR's with their first 4/5 picks and then a 3rd WR later in the draft. The 3rd one will be someone like Velus Jones, that will be their return specialist, with the hope of someday developing into a decent WR. They may also try to fill that spot of a returner with a CB like Marcus Jones. Jones is a decent CB and great returner, so he may go off the board in Day 2.

Winfrey confirmed now from multiple.
I really like Winfrey, the guy is a beast. Guessing if the Packers want him, they might have to use a second rounder on him. I can envision a D-line of Reed, Clark and Winfrey. Might be the best DL the Packers have had in years.
