There are 2 common ways to build a roster.
#1- Draft
#2- Free Agency

There are also some quieter ways to add talent.

Two years ago, the Bills quietly obtained Jerry Hughes from Indy where he was miscast in a 4-3 scheme.
He was always a premiere talent even though he did nothing for a few years.
Now he's a great pass-rusher for the Bills, as we all knew he was entering the NFL.

I present one more guy here.
He was never as ultra-talented as Hughes, who IMO is as talented as Clay Matthews, Von Miller, Cameron Wake.

But this guy, in 2009 (year we drafted Jordy) was the Mackey Award winner as the nations' Best TE. That was ahead of a couple of TE's who went round one.

And he has former PACKER ties as his dad was Paul Coffman, a long-time great TE for the Packers.

He's done nothing in 2 seasons, recently being on Atlanta after being drafted by Cinci in the 3rd round.

I think he's worth a flier, considering our crappy set of TE's at the moment.

CHASE COFFMAN

Sometimes, a guy lingers and doesn't do anything for awhile despite having tons of talent. Whether being behind someone better or in the wrong system, a late bloomer, whatever. We've seen it before.

Here's a guy who if he was coming out right now, would probably be a 2nd round pick.

I'm all for bringing in any and all competition in here for the TE spot. I think we can all agree Finley putting on a GBP jersey again is probably not going to happen so bring several in and let the cream rise to the top.

If Coffman's kid is 1/2 the player his old man was, he'd be a great addition. But he hasn't caught a pass since 2010, and it looks like a long shot for him to be in the league this year. I wouldn't be surprised if the Falcons made a move to sign Finley--they're in worse shape than we are with tight ends.
