Jerry might secretly be a Packers fan, I thought for sure Gary was just gonna get cut :p

Getting a 4th for a guy who was going to be cut is incredible work.

I genuinely never really thought it would be a clean cut. He is not that bad and his contract is agreeable for a team needing that steady starter on the edge that might reclaim something of old.

It's tough to follow this thread a bit to know what is happening, so I found a link. The Packers traded Gary to the Cowboys for a 4th round pick in next year's draft.

Considering he was likely going to be released, getting a 4th round pick is a great move by Gutekunst:

I really like Rashan Gary. He had a solid career for GB. I'm not so sure he's good anymore. He was bad bad the last half of the year. And when he was with Parsons, he was fine. He's going to cost 19.5 against the cap this year and 22.5 mil against the cap next year. I'm pretty happy he's gone from a talent perspective and money wise.

Legal tampering period has been open for 5 minutes and just as expected Gute has done absolutely nothing while the rest of the league has gotten better.

(that was early sarcasm for those that might be in panic mode in a few hours)

I cannot love this enough to truly capture it !

Yeah I think it depends on the contract Gary will get, assuming it gets reworked. I think the Packers simply wanted to be done with Gary, but nay have reconsidered if his contract could be re-worked.

We'll never know. I can't say I'll miss Gary that much - but Gluten has to do something to backfill.

Same here. I guess Jerry wanted to make sure he landed in Dallas, and so was willing to part with a 4th rounder. Good deal all around as I'm sure the Packers were going to cut him anyway. Jerry had to give up a 4th make sure he got him.

I think we are picking the right year to lose players we don't see in the long term goal. A bunch of picks next year and hopefully dough too. We need to pick the right free agent players this year and next. No throwing away chances imho and we could be good for a long time. Of course that includes using our picks wisely.

Below the reply I'm getting bothered, because it takes up space, with the app asking for me to accept Push Notifications. What is that? I don't want to be bugged every time someone responds to a comment I made. I can deal with that on my own time.

You make an excellent point about parting ways with players that don't fit the long-term plan for the team. I thought Gluten would keep at least one of - Gary, Q Walker, or Hobbs. But nope, all gone. Hobbs was maybe the least likely, although he was certainly one of Gluten's worst moves in FA. Getting rid of him and eating the cap hit is the better move. And for that, I give Gluten credit. And he's done an incredible job in FA overall.

The Rams have been very aggressive in FA - acquiring two costly CBs, McDuffie and another. I'm glad Gluten didn't chase those guys. It seemed like their AAV was about $17 mil. That's a lot to pay DB. They did get a guy from the Chargers for CB to backfill for Hobbs, and they made a decent acquisition in DT Hargrave from MN. He's getting up there, 33 y/o, but has had some very good years.

Looks like Gluten's first draft pick will be at CB, unless there are changes, trades, et al. Hard to predict the draft but if it were today, I think the #52 pick will be a CB. As always, it depends on who is available. If they have a DT they really like and he drops, they would likeley go in that direction.

That's weird I've never gotten that notification. I think you can turn off notifications in the app. I receive an email from the forum when there is a new comment, new response to a thread i'm following. That's fine.

Cardinals EDGE Josh Sweat has requested a trade. Packers and Eagles are both reportedly interested.

Sweat has over $60mil cap# thru '28 season. I think that's way too much considering Watson & Kraft new deals will hit around $50mil/yr between the two. Yes, cap games would be used, but that much cap space on 3 players doesn't make sense, to me.

That seems a little rich for me, also.

That's only his impact to the Cardinals. His base salary and bonuses a trading team would be on the hook for is about 10M for 2026 and 19M per year 2027 and 2028 (base + option and workout bonuses.)
