IMO Bears are building a team that will be at the top of the central for the next 3-5 years. NFL drafting has been top notch, they have multiple picks again this year, good cap space and guys want to play for a winner, especially a team with a high-end new HC and a QB that has a "magic touch". Pack may challenge but frankly they look like #2 for the next few years, especially if they do not fix their OL and defense (DL, CB, LB).

Tough news this week. Just a household name (and face) here in Green Bay. :( Both Wolf and Harlan are forever engraved into the hearts of all of us Packers fans. Prayers lifted and thoughts for his family at this time. That 1930’s generation is something special.

So sorry to hear of his passing. I remember when I first started watching the Packers in 1979 and he eventually became president of the club. He made so many decisions that put the Packers in the position that they are now. From the interviews I saw on TV, he seemed like a down to earth kind of guy. He will be missed.

Hats off as well to Judge Parins, who started building up the Packers during the terrible 80s, and successfully fought off the board and executive committee to ensure that his hand-picked successsor, Harlan, got the job.

Harlan eventually hired Ron Wolf and, much like Lombardi had to do, told the Packers committee that Wolf was going to have total control of football operations - no more interference. He and Wolf changed the culture of the organization.

Yes and for those of us that lived through the 1970’s and 80’s we truly recognized that elite leadership doesn’t grow on trees.

I remember watching the newscasts out of Green Bay as the Packers (read: Bob Harlan) struggled to get the voters of Brown County to approve a one-half of one-percent sales tax to renovate Lambeau Field in 2003. It was a tougher sell than you'd think in view of the fact that without the Packers, Green Bay is Duluth. Bob Harlan LITERALLY went door-to-door like a candidate for city council selling the reasons why the Packers could (and probably would) have been forced to -- well, potentially dissolve -- without a modern state of the art facility that would generate revenue year-round. Poppa can probably cover this one better than I because he actually lives in Brown County and had to pay that tax as part of his daily life, but this one was different than even the 5 county stadium tax in Milwaukee that was CRAMMED down the taxpayers' throats ... this was Bob Harlan essentially selling the deal.

I'm guilty as most attributing the Packers' turnaround to Ron Wolf and Mike Holmgren alone, where Mr. Harlan was kind of an afterthought ... but, with the benefit of hindsight and 30+ additional years ... I'm sold on the notion that without Bob Harlan, this franchise is something completely different than what we see today. Who knows, someone else might have come through the gate and accomplished what he did to turn a moribund franchise into a functional NFL team...maybe... but had Parins (in my opinion, part of the problem) chosen someone else, we could have seen more of the same.

I only had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Harlan once and it was solely a handshake and "Pleasure to meet you, Mr Harlan" ... his reply was "I'm Bob". Nothing quite like the 20 minute gab session with Mark Murphy after a country club presentation ... but, that short interaction with Bob Harlan, you could just TELL that what everyone said about him was true. By that, I'm saying that if some of the "unhappys" here would call the Packers and ask for Bob Harlan, he'd pick up the phone and personally speak with a fan. What are the odds of that today? Someone want to call the Packers and ask to speak to Mr. Policy?

Seriously, there should be a good old fashioned grass roots movement out of Green Bay to get Bob Harlan into the NFL Hall as a contributor. Anyway, rest in peace Bob Harlan -- and thanks man.

I'm just checking to see how many Packer Fans really follow a lot of post/off season news
which for the most part is just speculation.

What changes in coaching staff.
Who's available in the draft.
What about free agency?
Which player from other teams might be cut and available.
Cap space.

The reason for asking is, doesn't all these come down to the decisions in the front office
and we as fans can just talk about our wishes for the better of the team?

In the meantime, all we can do is read about all the possibilities, and it all changes from day-by-day week to week.

I really don't care because of the time between now and training camp.

Example: Acquiring Micah Parsons just before the season started.

For now, I'm headed for my favorite Florida golf course. :)
Heading for a golf course in FL in March is the best offseason move I’ve heard so far!

The season ended with a 5-game losing streak. This ending hasn’t been nearly as bad as some others.

The next month, through FA and the draft, will be very interesting to follow. As far as speculating on how it will play out, well, I like the golf option the best. Can’t guarantee a good round and I’m not a golfer. But it sounds like a winning move to me!

Have fun Mike!

Aaron Jones is supposedly going to be released by the Vikings.

Would there be any world in which a reunion would make sense??

It's hard for me to see it as likely at all. But I really like Jones and think there could be some sense to it.

We all just heard how Emanuel Wilson is not getting tendered. AFAIK, the minimum price for tendering would be like 3.5m, or nearly 6m for a 2nd-round tender.

I would have to think that would be around the ceiling we would want to pay for RB2. But depending on the cost I guess you could look at it like Jones vs a late round pick for our likely RB2. Of course Lloyd is still a total unknown and I don't know what the plan is with Brooks (maybe I missed something there)

I also think that he has a remaining 2m guaranteed from Minnesota. So hypothetically speaking if he agreed a minimum contract with us (~1.3m I think) then they would still have to pay him 700k for instance. BUT he had been set to make like 10m this year. So that would obviously have to come at a significant discount.

It's hard for me to get a good read on him overall, cuz in general the vikings offense kinda stunk last year. And he missed a few games after going through a super heavy workload the year prior, but he would presumably take on a smaller role behind Jacobs now.

Food for thought anyhow!
This upcoming season is gonna be hard to predict for the running game.

Seems the team is willing to let Wilson go. It’s gonna be a transition year at the position. Gluten could do a lot worse than signing Jones or Mixon for a year, and then draft a RB next year.

Brooks is signed, so this keeps the running game solid as Jacobs’ future with the Packers and the NFL is sorted out.

I don’t think he’ll be here next year. That’s a bummer cause he’s a good man and a great Packer. We all move on at some point.

This seems incredibly foolish and misguided to me...and honestly I'd assume you're trolling as it is to that degree. You claim it to be a guessing game...sure...but one which you absolutely can mitigate the risk massively by scouting, film watching, testing, interviewing - if it is such a fools endeavor as you claim teams would be trading away all their day 1 and day 2 picks and only desiring to pick in the end of the draft because of course: Tony Mandarich example justifies that foolish thought process.

To think the combine should make or break whether a team drafts a player is misguided as well....and falls short of intelligence as well and I'd have responded in a similar fashion to that thinking too.
Mandarich was, I think, the first overall pick that year. An absolute bust.

But that’s out of context. One example, Rodgers and Love were first round picks. And overall, whether it’s Wolf or TT or Gluten, these GMs made some very good choices.

Glad to get him out of the division. He was tough on us even with the Bears. Detroit will still have a strong running game.

Montgomery was a problem for the Packer's defensive front.

Good for him to get his opportunity as RB1, and glad he's out the division.

Great for fantasy football too.
