I believe the author of that thing must have accidentally been watching footage of former Packer Bryce Paup or perhaps Tim Harris, the ole 6-Shooter.

Jones was nowhere to be seen against Kaepernick & Frank Gore.
Except he would be near the one of them who didn't have the ball every time.

I still believe Brad Jones is a better OLB than ILB, and I feel our pathetic defense too often last year was evidence that perhaps that's the case.....

As someone posted in the Chris Canty thread, Pro Football Focus graded out the Packers most undervalued and overvalued players.

https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2013/03/02/performance-based-value-green-bay-packers/

I keep seeing these glowing offseason reviews on Brad Jones of how good of an ILB he was. Am I totally remembering this last season wrong, was he really that good for us? Is he really a $6.3M dollar value linebacker??

I wonder if PFF realizes he played ILB. $6.3 mil is a lot of dough for that position...somewhere around top 10 in the league. That just doesn't make much sense.

For as many times last season as I clearly saw Jones just standing around flat footed as people ran right past him making a play, he aint worth jack **** to me. He seems confused half the time he is out there.

He was rated 5th on our defense. It's not that he's good, it's just that the rest of the defense was that bad last season

We saw the same thing. He missed a lot of tackles and gave up 6.5 plays of 20 or more yards.

I'd rather escort Walden and Zombo out the door, keep Jones as the backup OLB, and then bring in a mid-level free agent to compete for the job along with a 3rd or 4th round OLB pick. I see some value in Jones but I wouldn't be betting the franchise on him either

IMO Jones was an outstanding THIRD string ILB and I think he's an ideal backup LB because of his versatility. But he has to be paid like a backup for it to make sense to have him on the roster. Here's what McGinn had to say about him after the season (caution to the poster who hates reading McGinn's words they appear below):
It was Jones after Bishop and D.J. Smith were lost for the year. The call went to Jones over three other legitimate candidates, and in the final 12 games he played 794 of a possible 801 snaps. Clearly, he wore down near the end because of the extreme workload. Jones earned respect in the locker room based on performance, but as a free agent-to-be it remains to be seen if he'll be re-signed. Jones attacked downhill (4½ tackles for loss), diagnosed pretty well and also tried to be physical. He missed nine tackles, got tied up a lot and had major struggles in coverage, giving up 6½ plays of 20 yards or more. Grade: C-plus.

The phrase "last man standing" comes to mind. I never had a high opinion of him. He is not worth that kind of money. He was there, though, and able to shift positions in time of need. He's therefore, one of those guys I will wish well when somebody pays him way more than the Packers would.

He's not worth the money estimated, but if he remains cheap, you can't expect much more out of a 3rd LB option. That's good versatility

I remember the Chicago game - goal line stand or something like that and the forced fumble against the Jags ...

I thought Brad did alright - nothing special - nothing awful - I'd rather we keep him and let AJ go.
