I was watching Malik Willis career video and the flash back video of him playing backup for the Packers.

I hope watching him leave town and betting the farm on Jorden Love will be the correct move.
Jorden Love has to give us 100% this year or the wheels will come off soon if he gets injured
again the year.

The only way to tell is if Jordan Love is not under center for certain. If you are Brett Favre the back up becomes a tiny footnote.

Well Love had played in all but 3 games of a a 55 game career and 1 of those games we purposely held him out (Week 18). So there’s no reason to conclude that he’s not going to play this year or he’s going to suddenly be more injury prone than any other QB.

Very few teams who lose their starting QB are going to click along without skipping a beat deep into the playoffs. I can’t think of a team that wouldn’t he concerned and that includes the best out there KC, LA, Seattle, Denver, Buffalo or you name it. There are examples of some backups filling in and doing nicely but very few backups in the history of Champions were backup QB’s. Nick Foles? I don’t like those odds no matter which team you name so welcome to the club.

Past maybe Joe Flacco or Jameis Winston I wouldn’t have much confidence in any backup QB leading a Super Bowl charge. I’m not even sure I would want Joe Flacco and I’ve got a ton of respect for his ability to maintain at 41yrs old.

I’d put Tyrod Taylor in a tier with the top 6-10 rated backup QB grouping. He’s actually been consistently solid and mostly with bad defenses. Imagine him with a Top 5 ranked Defense. With the Giants and Jets he’s posted an average 94.5% Passer rating since 2022. The 2026 Packers are all around better than the Jets or Giants imo.

Tyrod .486 and Malik .500 hold virtually the same Win % at .500 area. Malik 98.9 passer in very small sample has outplayed Tyrod 87.7% passing, but not dramatically. Malik TD:INT is 2:1 and Tyrod TD:INT ratio is a smidge better at 2.1:1. Tyrods 5.6 per carry is actually a better rushing average than Malik 5.5 per and who would guess that? Malik 200% has the youth and longevity upside, but Tyrod by far has more raw experience to step into a pressure cooker and remain poised.

I look full spectrum at the entirety of that deal. #1 Malik had a fairly small sample imo. No QB that shows up is going to want to stick around as a backup forever. Including Bridgewater, those guys want to play not be spectators. If we can snag a RD3 comp I think that was a smart move to let him play elsewhere. Heck I believe Malik was drafted in the 3rd Round and purchased for a 7th. That should be getting huge praise for Brian. Really a brilliant play.

I’m pretty comfortable with a backup QB who’s Started 62 games at .500 ball + a bonus RD3 draft pick this coming March
VS
a guy who’s maybe slightly more upside and 6 career Starts and no draft pick.

Willis had legs, and used them. Beyond that ... I don't see much of a drop-off. I do hope that Willis does well along with the rest of the Dolphins. It'll be interesting to see if our former D.C. can buck the trend of D.C.'s not doing so well in H.C. positions. If anyone would know what Willis has ... it would be a D.C., so, it might be interesting.

This is improper description of the timeline. Jordan Love has proven vastly more than Malik ever has in this league and the Packers had already signed him well before Malik even came in as his backup, mind you as a bottom of the roster QB for the Titans...

There is rarely more than a couple teams in the league that won't see their seasons fall off the rails should their starting QB go down...it's just a simple fact. Malik came here literally getting ready to likely be cut by one of the worst teams in the league...he wasn't good, despite having physical ability he hadn't shown much at all since his time in a smaller college program. There is a lot to say for having the weight of being or battling for the starting role and just relax and learn. That time could have saved his entire career or he could become yet another guy like Matt Flynn or Tyrod Taylor who just flat excel as the backup but not the main...that won't be known until a year or two passes likely of him being the man.

There was no fiscal responsible way to keep Malik unless Malik was willing to take a MASSIVE pay cut, to the degree it would be offensive to offer or expect him to consider it.

Even if Jordan Love suffers an injury, only a fool would point to Gute and scream idiot you should have signed Malik Willis...it made no fiscal sense, roster construction sense for us...nor did it for Malik's side either.

I believe Gute still has done better with backups so far than his predecessor. If your back up shows life some team is going to go after him like when Matt Flynn had a record day in the season finale of 2011.
