My first question would be: "Has anyone jotted down on paper (if they know) what the other 8 Teams "real needs" might be? Understanding the needs dwindles down the fear that YOUR favorite pick won't be there, when it's finally GBP's turn at bat. We only need to eliminate eight players from contention, and it isn't like the Packer's BIG need is only in the top 8. There ARE at least two good choices for each position on the Listing up until (probably) the end of the 3rd round.
My selection was: B J Raji (Nose tackle from Boston College) as the better choice.
WHY? No matter what you see on (YouTube?) video, with over-runs, etc., the Packers have something that can turn things to the positive. And, that's DOM CAPERS, along with our new DLC (Trgovac). Guys, this is probably one of thee most unique groupings of NFL Coaches that I've witnessed in probably at least a decade. Remember the uproar when the Steelers lost a lot of their Coaches after Big Ben's 1st SuperBowl? While this assembling has been more under the radar, it nonetheless is just as BIG as all that hubbub was.
I seriously think Dom Capers is exactly what the Packers need. My worry is that once he (again) sees success is that he might go and jump ship again. Course, there's that issue of a Coach finally realizing his best talents may lie in staying put. Hello Ray Rhodes?
We need either BJ Raji, or another Nose tackle just as BIG because I believe it that Ryan Pickett's best days are behind him. If we do not solidify the Scrimmage Line on Defense, the rest won't mean a hill 'o beans. Remember, how many games did we lose due to the Defense allowing the other Team(s) that chance to make the comeback score? Between Defense & Special Teams, there are at least FOUR games that the Packers "should have won". Four games makes our Season what?
Much as I hate to say it, Nose Tackle really is where we need to go first. I hate to say it, because my BIGGEST WISH is that Aaron Rodgers get what ALL quarterbacks would luv to have - ALL DAY IN THE POCKET. So, if it wasn't for the fact that Pickett's knees are shot, and Jolly is about to spend some time (maybe) in Texas.... then my 1st pick would be for Tackle or Center. Alex Mack would be my first choice - he can play both Center and Guard. If he were to gel at Guard, instead of Center, then we could move Jason Spitz in at Center and still be better than we have been for the last two seasons.
What's everyone going to say if (finally) Justin Harrell suddenly steps up and gets his act together? After this long, the odds really are against it, but stranger things have happened on the Frozen Tundra. I remember everyone questioning the talent of Nick Collins until last Season came around. Suddenly, he was looking almost like the twin to Charles Woodson when it came to grabbing INT's. Like I say, it can happen.
There's also another option that would be almost as crazy as Trader Ted selecting Justin Harrell like he did. There was a write-up in Packer Report recently about the Son of a former Packer Great, remember? The Son now plays Tight End in College. Stranger things have happened, and depending on how Ted feels about this Tight End, he very well could go much earlier than he's currently predicted. For sure, if we skip him at #9, then he won't be there when our turn comes back around. Think about it. Aaron Rodgers with a very credible Tight End to throw to, much like Mark Chmura. Put your feet up and just mull that one over for awhile. I'm talking about Paul Coffman's son, CHASE COFFMAN, now playing at Missouri. If TT goes for Chase Coffman, it would be the pick with history written all over it. Also, you don't really hear all that much press about Chase, other than small talk (and that writeup in Packer Report).
Just something to swill a few Leinies over..... that's all. Course, I could be all wrong - most fans usually are.
