4 mins left..

Pass incomplete

Pass complete to Adams , 16 yards.. To Packers 41...Adams hurt

Run for 9 yards to the 50

Time out

2.33 to go

Rodgers keeper design run to left.. 1st down ball on Dallas 45

2 min warn 1st down on Daallas 45..

Pass to right, flag on Dallas.. Ball to the 35

Run for 3. Time out Dallas ball on 33

1.48 to go

Run that lost 5 yards.

3rd and 13.. Pass incomplete

Not sure how any one says conservative? That got Dallas to use time outs... The only play that sucked was the loss of 5 on 2nd down..

So the question is this..

By aggressive you want to pass.. But if not complete , clock stops..

By tossing in runs it forced Dallas to use time outs.

So what do you really want?

That 5 yard loss was due to Spriggs being destroyed also.

If it's blocked well and Ty ran for a 1st down, nobody would question the call.

The plan was probably to get 3-4 to set up an easy 3rd down conversion.

Is it really fair to say Spriggs was destroyed when I'm not sure he made contact with anyone on that play :)

Once Dallas went in to bump and run coverage, pass completion percentage went down so mixing in runs wasn't a bad idea. The game really changed when the Packets went zone and Dallas went bump and run. The roll outs by AR in the last two drives were designed to give the receivers more time to get separation. Once Dallas went bump and run it opened up the field as well for qb scrambles. That's why the qb keeper by Rodgers was a really good call. Atlanta will learn from the Dallas game. AR will need to do a lot of damage outside the pocket buying a little more time.

On the -5 yard run, I have no problem with it being a run call. But I do have a problem with the kind of run call.

It was an 8 man line, fullback, nobody split. The Cowboys were quite reasonably all 11 in the box. Even if you can make a seam in the line, all 3 levels are within 5 yards of the LOS. This play was dead on arrival in a spot where you're trying to improve on a 51 yard FG position. This wasn't 3rd. and a 1/2 yard to go.

Nobody does this, and especially nobody does this with an elite QB who has to be respected on 2nd. and 8 in a tie game! If you want to run to improve the FG odds and maybe get in a favorable 3rd. and x to extend the drive and burn the clock, spread the D!

I've got another quibble. On the subsequent incompletion, you had 3 wide running vertical and the 4th. running a deep out. It was a flip from an ultraconservative run call to a go-for-broke pass.

Rodgers said the mistake was leaving too much time on the clock. Yeah, and how about leaving your guy at 56 yards for the FG? How about one underneath route as an option to maybe, just maybe, improve on that FG position and maybe, just maybe, the guys runs it out for 13 yards?

This series wasn't so much conservative as it was ******.

Hail Crosby!

those are those runs though if you block it right and they get thru the line, they just keep on running to the endzone. They don't work so well when you let defenders run right thru to the backfield though

As I´ve pointed out in another thread that statement is plain and simply wrong as Rodgers had a better completion percentage in the second compared to the first half.

True, but most of the time those runs result in a short yardage gain at best.

My thought, though, if you split one guy wide, that pulls a cb from the box as well as moves a safety. Taking out 2 tacklers with only one player is a good thing.

I always think misdirection on those ays is good. Semd cook in motion and if only one db shifts, go to him. Have rip in backfield, monty on edge then choices are rip up the gut, pitch to monty, pass to cook or naked bootleg. One of those should look promising and AR makes the option call at the line.

That does happen, maybe once every 100 runs. And have you ever seen that against 11 in the box, with defense stacked 3 deep across all the gaps? Not me.

they result in even shorter runs when you don't block who's in front of you. I thought they'd do some sort of pass in that situation, but hey, they didn't and they got buried.

Spriggs was bought in as a sixth blocker...he just whiffed on the block plain and simple. His get off was wayyyyy to slow. It's like Lawrence knew the snap count and Spriggs didn't. But I can say if he blocks Monty gets at least 5-6 yards.

Springgs had a least two horrendous whiffs in the game. I hope that he figures it out as the 6th blocker since he's been pretty solid filling in for OL injuries this season.

Spriggs maybe not up to speed yet on the silent count? He was outside the tackle as a TE on his worst whiff.

What I remember about that play was also seeing Linsley get blown up in the middle. However, we hit rewind and watched the play a few times. The play was supposed to go left. Linsley got stood up and walked back by a fierce bull rush, but seems like he would have done his job had the play gone as it was supposed to. However, when Spriggs whiffed his player disrupted the play and stopped Montgomery. Linsley's player then sandwiched Ty and that ended the play. I wouldn't give Linsley a top grade but had everyone else done their job, his work would have been passable.

Everyone in the building knew we were going to attempt a power run on that play without a power back. Spriggs definitely whiffed, but I seriously doubt we would have gained more than three yards anyway. We gain yards running because we set the runs up with a pass. We are not a power running team. If we call two runs in a row, they better be creative.

That was a great play. Rodgers should've dropped down in the fetal position instead of handing it off. He could have done the three stooges circle while down to amplify the effect. Somebody answer that damn phone!

True, only the Vikings and Buccaneers have had a worse success rate on power runs this season.

This may be splitting hairs, but the Packers do not typically use the pass to set up the run so much as they use the threat of the pass to set up the run. In other words, they run best spreading the D in 3 and 4 wide and force the D into nickel and dime, whether it's first down or short yardage. I'll never understand the thinking behind zero wide against 11 in the box. How many times do you have to bang your head against the wall before it starts to hurt?

I see Greenbay coming out some games. They will start hot, and blow teams out the first half, and into the second half. Then the switch flips... We all seen it... Same on defense. We drop into some bend but don't break scheme, at the same time they are going into their 2 minute drills... Its a recipe for failure when the game was essentially already won...

On the opposite side. Sometimes we come out flat. Boom we are down 21 early... I don't even get that nervous anymore... Because I know that when this team gets their backs put up against the wall, we can fight back nearly every time. When this team got knocked on their butts mid-season and sat at 4-6... Backs up against the wall. They threw all thoughts of "conservative" out the window. They didn't try to control the ball. They didn't wait until we were getting worked over before we got aggressive on defense. GB came out week 12 and fought like there was no tomorrow. We gave the ball to the Best player on the team, and allowed him to distribute it to his play makers. On defense we let our d-front swarm, and the Dbacks play tight. We had to use the strategy of being more physical than technical with the CBs, because all we had left was tweeners.

The aggressiveness works for us.

Its not until we try to control the clock... Like in the Dallas game... That's not the first time we put up 30 in the first 40 minutes, and decided to kill the clock. The clock starts dictating our plays. We go conservative, and that's not our strength. We don't have a dominant run blocking oline. We don't have Big Eddie Lacy right now to make up for it. We take the ball out of Rodgers hands and give him runs, and play actions (that don't fool anyone because our run game sucks), and we tend to force him to try and make plays with pass rushers chasing... Look at how those final drives went in the 2nd half the dallas game, after the initial TD drive to open the half... Runs they knew were coming. Play action that didn't fool anyone. Screens in the middle of a swarm. Then of course give it to Rodgers on 3rd down with the defense pinning their ears back and attacking... A couple key 3rd down sacks when they knew we were passing, and Dallas was right back in it...

On defense. Oy! Both halves we finished completely horrible. We seemed to start playing well, and taking a few lumps mixed in. Dallas drops a few over us, and then Elliott gashes us a couple times. And we go into full prevent zone out.

The same principles go for the defense in relation to aggressiveness. We should NEVER see that dang prevent looking zone crap, the way we execute it. We had rookie Dak dropping passes in between 2, 3, sometimes crowds of GB defenders. Makes us look silly... Obviously we have weaknesses that need to be compensated for. Unlike the offense, being aggressive is more risky. We will take our lumps... But like I said before. I would rather see our guys a step behind chasing, than 3 guys standing all "zoned" out while they drop 20 yarders on us all day.

All in all. I think we all have seen our offense and defense play dominant. And we have all seen the offense and defense roll over and get whooped... I think it all comes down to how bad we want it. How aggressive we call plays. And when we take it to them, we play to our strengths. When we play like theres no tomorrow, we win.

the only thing that allowed that game to get close was Rodgers missing an open Adams for a TD and instead tossing on INT himself. This coming after Hyde had a great defensive play. That would have been the throat stomp right there. It's hard to get too upset with Rodgers now isn't it, but the facts remain the same. That game was over after that play, and we didn't make it.

Football is a funny game. Things happen. If you expect a team to play wide open with everything going smoothly from start to finish, you haven't been paying attention.
