So the question is this..
By aggressive you want to pass.. But if not complete , clock stops..
By tossing in runs it forced Dallas to use time outs.
So what do you really want?
I see Greenbay coming out some games. They will start hot, and blow teams out the first half, and into the second half. Then the switch flips... We all seen it... Same on defense. We drop into some bend but don't break scheme, at the same time they are going into their 2 minute drills... Its a recipe for failure when the game was essentially already won...
On the opposite side. Sometimes we come out flat. Boom we are down 21 early... I don't even get that nervous anymore... Because I know that when this team gets their backs put up against the wall, we can fight back nearly every time. When this team got knocked on their butts mid-season and sat at 4-6... Backs up against the wall. They threw all thoughts of "conservative" out the window. They didn't try to control the ball. They didn't wait until we were getting worked over before we got aggressive on defense. GB came out week 12 and fought like there was no tomorrow. We gave the ball to the Best player on the team, and allowed him to distribute it to his play makers. On defense we let our d-front swarm, and the Dbacks play tight. We had to use the strategy of being more physical than technical with the CBs, because all we had left was tweeners.
The aggressiveness works for us.
Its not until we try to control the clock... Like in the Dallas game... That's not the first time we put up 30 in the first 40 minutes, and decided to kill the clock. The clock starts dictating our plays. We go conservative, and that's not our strength. We don't have a dominant run blocking oline. We don't have Big Eddie Lacy right now to make up for it. We take the ball out of Rodgers hands and give him runs, and play actions (that don't fool anyone because our run game sucks), and we tend to force him to try and make plays with pass rushers chasing... Look at how those final drives went in the 2nd half the dallas game, after the initial TD drive to open the half... Runs they knew were coming. Play action that didn't fool anyone. Screens in the middle of a swarm. Then of course give it to Rodgers on 3rd down with the defense pinning their ears back and attacking... A couple key 3rd down sacks when they knew we were passing, and Dallas was right back in it...
On defense. Oy! Both halves we finished completely horrible. We seemed to start playing well, and taking a few lumps mixed in. Dallas drops a few over us, and then Elliott gashes us a couple times. And we go into full prevent zone out.
The same principles go for the defense in relation to aggressiveness. We should NEVER see that dang prevent looking zone crap, the way we execute it. We had rookie Dak dropping passes in between 2, 3, sometimes crowds of GB defenders. Makes us look silly... Obviously we have weaknesses that need to be compensated for. Unlike the offense, being aggressive is more risky. We will take our lumps... But like I said before. I would rather see our guys a step behind chasing, than 3 guys standing all "zoned" out while they drop 20 yarders on us all day.
All in all. I think we all have seen our offense and defense play dominant. And we have all seen the offense and defense roll over and get whooped... I think it all comes down to how bad we want it. How aggressive we call plays. And when we take it to them, we play to our strengths. When we play like theres no tomorrow, we win.
