Yeah I don't like Davis either, much prefer holton hill if you want a big corner. And kevin king is a big corner with speed, id say thats ideal. I also agree with Janis that dj Moore is the best receiver in the draft. That being said I wouldn't want the Packers to draft him at 14 because there's gonna be impact receivers around in the 2nd, 3rd and possibly 4th round.

FWIW according to PFF the Packers present the best fit for Moore:

I hope you're not talking about using the 14th pick on Holton Hill though.

Haha definitely not hill for me would be cool in the 4th or so where he'll likely fall due to off the field concerns.

Moore reminds me a lot of a more explosive davantae Adams. He does really just look like a Packers receiver when you watch his highlights

D.J. Moore would be a slam dunk pick at #45.

Yeah been hoping for that but being realistic hes gonna be long gone. I wouldn't wanna take him at 14 but I have heard he could easily go top 15 but for sure he's gone by the end of the round

It seems Moore is projected to be drafted right around the Packers selection in the second round. He would definitely be an intriguing prospect at that point.

Hopefully and I've been taking him consistently with that pick in fanspeak mocks. But I've been hearing hes moving up and could be the first reciever selected. I'd say he, Ridley, and Sutton are the only recievers with a chance of going in the first round

In my opinion it's possible that Gallup and Washington end up being selected in the first round as well. I wouldn't feel comfortable with the Packers selecting one of them at #14 though as this year's class lacks elite talent at the position though.

I like to look at how a player actually plays on the field.

Davis is big, and he can press, but he's grabby. Walking PI in the NFL. And when he doesn't grab you? Big play! There's definitely athletic potential there, but he allowed a lot of big plays, plays with poor technique.

He had 6 DPI penalties this year alone. 6! Against players that he's bigger and faster than. That's bad. He's given up a lot of TD's and 20yd+ catches over the last couple years. More than a good CB should. That crappy WR with no strength, Ridley, he was getting open consistently against Davis. Weird how that works, huh?

So yes, I will take a smaller CB that is actually good at playing CB. I'm weird like that.

You're enamored with size and athleticism, which is fine. I prefer a combination, but primarily the tape.

If im "enamored" by anything its the Seahawks defense from 2012-2016. I like little guys too. Like a small Earl Thomas type safety that can switch directions on a dime and has range to cover sideline to sideline. But if you look at there corners they drafted they were mostly guys like Carlton Davis that they drafted in later rounds that had size, length and athleticism that they could coach up to be great NFL press corners. Its all about scheme and im trying to look at prospects with what Pettine's vision on defense has been in the past.

Edit: I also like tad undersized but faster and quicker LB's that arent coverage liabilities.

It's funny how before the combine many had an OT and Josh Jackson in the top 10. GMs may very well go back to the tape and still value their play. While I'm personally leery of the OT, Josh Jackson is still an elite player in this draft. Great ball skills and very natural coverage ability. But he runs a bad 40 and now he drops? His 40 time is right around Richard sherman's so I know running faster is not absolutely necessary to success.

Is Jackson the one who only lines up in press coverage/technique but isn't all that physical? If so, Sherman is a bad comparison. Besides, we need a CB with serious long speed - King has some speed, but isn't that fast and Tramon sure isn't the answer to that question either. Much rather get a slightly lesser talent that fits the profile better with our second pick.
BPA after adjusting for need looks like one of the edge rushers at this point to me, Davenport or Landry. I'd be fine with both if no blue chip talent falls, but I'm hoping we can pull off an uptrade trade after the early QB frenzy.

I would be fine with drafting Landry in the first round but in my opinion Davenport would be a reach at that point. Unfortunately the Packers might be inclined to use their first selection on a defensive back once again as the team is in dire need of an upgrade at the position.

In my opinion it's getting annoying that you consider Sutton being the best wide receiver in the draft as a fact. Don't get me wrong, it's possible he will end up being the most productive one out of this year's class but it's definitely not a given. Most experts have ranked Ridley as the #1 wide receiver even after the combine.

Whats annoying is people disagreeing with me just to disagree cause they were wrong. All I heard before the combine was Sutton was basically a marginal athlete and wouldnt even time under a 7.0 3 cone etc etc. Not only did he test well but he blew the doors off with a 6.57 3 cone. Yet still there is all this resistance to him being a 1st round talent. Some experts have Sutton as a top 10 prospect which should be noted.

Yes, I get there isn't a Julio Jones type talent at receiver in this draft but there also isn't a Jalen Ramsey or Justin Houston talent type either. The Packers have needs at all three of those positions and its pretty easy to see of all the top prospects and where there likely to fall that Sutton will be the best player available that fits a need.

Get annoyed all you want.

It seems that you have a hard time understanding that Sutton hasn't proven any of the posters around here wrong as he hasn't taken a single snap at the pro level so far. I haven't seen any mock drafts predicting him to be selected in the top 10. FWIW all experts at NFL.com don't even have him being drafted in the first round at all. Therefore mentioning that it's pretty obvious to everyone that he will easily be the prospect available presenting the best value for the Packers is a huge reach.

I have noticed with many fans that they automatically think filling a need with a top pick will automatically present an upgrade at that position which is so far from reality. Just go look at all the teams that lose year after year and continue to get top picks.

It becomes this mentality of just jamming a guy into a slot because there is a thought to be need there. This is the quickest way to build a losing football team. I would much rather have the best player at a position that fits scheme then just reaching at straws.

In my opinion the smartest way to handle the draft is to select the player presenting the best value to a team with position of need obviously being factored into the decision.

I agree with this and while I do like a guy like Harold Landry or Jaire Alexander(players that potentially will be available) I believe Sutton to have the highest ceiling of the three while also providing the best scheme fit to help us win now.

People can say the receiver class is weak but the edge class is weaker.

I would be extremely disappointed if Gutekunst decides to select Sutton at #14, especially if Landry is still available at that point.

Well while its not "gold" Charlie Campbell and a couple others have reported sources telling them the Packers are targeting Corner or WR in 1st round so you might be dissapointed.

I understand these source reports arent the end all be all but sometimes where there is smoke there is fire. Well just have to wait and see.

Pettine doesn't play defense the same way Seattle does, and Seattle isn't the only team that's had a good defense recently.

Carlton Davis has good size, and bad film. You keep on ignoring that for some reason.

The Seahawks had a dominant defense from 2012-15 though leading the league in points allowed in each of those four seasons.

Well Pettine was on with the Seahawks last year as advisor. The fact that DR was let go along with the Mo Wilk signing points to for me that this is going to be a different scheme all together. I wouldnt be surprised a bit if the Packers even selected Mo Hurst out of Michigan as there top pick.

This need for this 3-4 hybrid OLB might be left in the dust. The draft will ultimately fill in the blanks and leave no doubt moving forward.

I fully expect the Packers to run a different scheme under Pettine but with the league being predominantly pass orientated the team will most likely use similar position groups compared to last season.

Yes, I'm aware.

They still weren't the only good defense. There isn't just one way to do this.

Seattle had great pass rushing, the best coverage safety in the league, and the best coverage Mike in the league. It wasn't just their CB's.

They werent just a good defense. They were elite and it was all built through the draft with mostly day 2 and day 3 picks and a couple free agent aquisitions.

You are precisly right that the vaunted LOB got a lot of credit for what the work of what guys were doing upfront. There corners were excellent at pressing giving that 7-8 man rotation upfront just a tad more time to disrupt. In fact most of the Seahawks takeaways were due to pressure and tipped and arrant throws.

The Packers actually have the makings of a dominant D-line that could disrupt. Get Da'ron Payne or Maruice Hurst with an emerging Montro Adams and that could push us over the top. Now that kind of pick at 14 I would be down for but to put the steering wheel and other parts of the car together without having the engine in place is backwards thinking.

There are several press corner prospect in the later rounds that can be coached up to successfull NFL press corners.

While the Packers could get lucky and find a decent press cornerback in the later rounds of the draft I would prefer the team to select one earlier as the defensive line could be dominant even without the addition of a blue chip prospect at the position.
