Prior to Training Camp - Predicting the 53 Man Roster

PackersInsider reported at the time on Instagram. On June 9 at mini camp Luke left the field on his own power walking with a Trainer about 30 minutes before the end of Practice.

As to his injury condition I don’t think it’s been publicly disclosed. It’s very possible this is being overly precautionary and I don’t take issue with that at all. That’s my hope for the guy.

My buddy's always ask who are my two UDFAs to bet on and I was a RJ Maryland and Sturdivant guy...but with RJ going on IR I did shift my pick to Campbell ONLY becuase Brinson and Stackhouse are not locks...and Brooks in contract year sometimes is when Packers will trade a guy like him away for a Day 3 rather than play out and lose for less.

Talk about a guy flying under the radar - meaning Campbell. Interesting player.

I didn't know Maryland went on IR. What happened to him?

That’s what I believe this is all about. Over cautious because Musgrave is needed. It’s a great thing to see the packers organization prioritize the healing of players’ bodies. Understanding the goal is not training camp champ or regular season champ. We make the playoffs and enter healthy and at full stride. That’s the goal.

25 years ago I bet Musgrave would’ve been out there right now, grinding to keep his job.

Agreed. Rodgers was right in his disdain of the PS due to the injury risk in a mostly meaningless game. Jordy Nelson tore his ACL on a non-contact play in PS and missed the season. Better to keep the stars healthy and let the newer guys prove themselves.

And they're gonna need Musgrave. It will help Kraft and reduce double teams if they're both on the field.

Good lineup GBS. I don't think they'll keep 7 WRs on the roster. My guess is they'll keep 5, maybe 6. If Moore does well returning kicks in TC/PS, he'll be the 5th with Melton cut and Neyor back to the PS.

Also we’ll be able to stash Musgrave on an injury designation such as PUP, so I think that initially leaves room for one alternate named TE. Messiah Swinson (6’7” 259lb) is entering year 3 Undrafted and bounced around to the SF49ers and Cardinals, which we have strong ties to.

I think our lightest DE is Karl Brooks or Javon Hargrave at a Featherweight 305-310lb.
I Suspect they’ll keep a couple of big bodies like Ford though. Especially after getting pushed around upfront later last year. You can just see the concerted effort to get bigger. Adding Ford (338) McClellan (313) and Hargrave (307)

I thought Stackhouse would play much better than he has. I don't recall him making an impact last year, and if his name isn't coming up during TC, he's likely to be gone soon.

Likely. Personally I don’t think Moore or Melton would make the team as pure WRs. Their spots are earned on special teams with one being the kick return specialist. The other being our #1 gunner and back up returner. Between the two that’s 6. But in my perspective it’s more of a 5 WRs, and one spot special teams.

That said, both are on the smaller side of our spectrum of WRs. And o believe GB is going big this year.

Sooooo. One speculation is that Musgrave will start the season on pup. And in that case I think we fill his spot with one of the bigger WRs.

So on paper it’s 7 WRs. But really it’s 5 permanent WRs, one special teams roster spot with WR/CB depth as a bonus. And the 7th spot being another big target until Musgrave comes back.

I'm one of the ones that like preseason games. It gives me a chance to see mainly receivers, linebackers, running backs, qb, and corners/db. It's really the only way I can get a feeling for some of these guys that are on the downside of the totem pole. So for me, I'm hoping that it isn't going to be a lovefest between the announcers and the people they interview. I'm hoping they actually call the game and yell out some names when someone makes a play.

That would mean we wouldn't pick until the 3rd round, and considering the fact that there will be players lost through free agency, it could lead to some significant problems.

Sweat is probably worth a second, but not to Green Bay because of the impact down the road.

You missed the point of my post...

We could trade all our draft capital for Sweat and it would be beneficial for the Packers....not smart, but would benefit the 2026 Packers in the sense we are a better team with him.
