Lewis had the leverage. He was the only blocking tight end of his caliber that was available, and it's a position where rookies really struggle. This offense uses a true Y quite a bit.

I forget who I saw say it but someone stated Green Bay went to the second year in order to get him over other interests.

On average, Lewis earned a bit more than $2 million over his previous three years with the Packers. I don't consider it a smart way to handle the cap to double that amount at this point in his career.
