Zion Johnson, LG - Boston College

Johnson was part of the unit that paved the way for AJ Dillon last year to the tune of over 1600 yards. Being that he started off his career at Davidson, he may be even more talented than evaluators are giving him credit for. I'm marking him a steal early on Day 3; but he could go as high as the 3rd Round with a strong Senior Bowl and Combine.

Love the eye on him F>R kudos! He is a OL I've had circled as well. I do believe minimum Day 2 pick with arguments to be made by him for how high that may be. Dude is SKILLED and has better than expected footwork.

My familiarity with ND as a fan and due to living just outside South Bend here's a few guys at ND to keep eye on:

Eichenberg LT - He could have easily been drafted last year, but chose to return. Every LT under Kelly has become a top 20 pick...so he could end up being out of reach for us, but I suspect he might be the first to make it past that. I could easily see a world where this is our LT of the future.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah Hybrid LB - I'm telling you right now, this is what I'd describe as a poor man's Isaiah Simmons - any DC would smile to have his name called and trust me fans should you hear it called you should smile as well. He could elect to return as he has elgibility left, but I'm predicting he declares. He's only 6'1' and around 220, but his frame is capable of more and he fits the smaller hybrid LB we are seeing more and more of.


Daelin Hayes, DE (Sr., 6-4, 270) - I list his size first because folks he DOES not look like he is 270, but trust me he is. I love Hayes, but not unrealistic in realizing he won't be in top tier discussion at edge guys this next year most likely, but may sneak onto a few draft lists as one. He is right there next to top tier. This is mostly due to him having to play behind Khalid Kareem and Julian Okwara for years, then a torn labrum in 2019. 2020 if he stays healthy, he's going to catch eyes! His medicals and more of unknowns, I realistically see him as a later Day 2 or early Day 3 guy to circle and highlight.

Ben Skowronek WR - What GB draft discussion wouldn't include a flier on a WR. Skowronek was a guy many had as a draftable WR in 2020, but instead chose the transfer portal and headed to ND. 6-2 220 he is the type of WR Gute likes, and I think with his apparent regression (still plenty of season to turn it) after leaving Northwestern he is a Day 3/UDFA type guy to keep an eye on.

Tommy Kraemer OT (Day 2) - He is like Zack Martin was, tackle in college, projects as a guard and a DANG good one. IF we have any inkling that Jenkins could end up at one of our tackle positions, Kraemer is a guy that I see going in the second round that could instantly slide to Guard out the gate...if he goes past the 3rd round teams are dumb.

Your comparison for a LB is a bigger Hunter Renfrow? I’m assuming you’re talking about his brother, Sage, who is a 6’3 220 lb WR that hasn’t played this year bc he opted out. Cmon man. At least do the bare minimum of research.

I think I'm going to delve into RBs and TEs tonight....with Lewis just simply aging out, Stern not seeming to be on track to be anything above a #2B type guy and Deguara's injury I feel a TE before the 6th is very likely.

I want to hone in on Day II and Day III running backs. We will be resigning one of the Jones or Williams tandem back and Dillon is here, plus my Memphis crush will get a shot...but I suspect we look for a Antonio Gibson type guy/Ervin type guy mid to late.

Amon-Ra St. Brown (EQ's brother) seems to be the stereotypical MLF kind of duel threat WR. Hopefully having EQ is not a deterrent, because his brother is a much cleaner version of him.

From what I’ve read and seen, sounds like another good WR class, good CB class, really good iOL class, average to above average OT class, poor iDL class, and average Edge class. Not real sure on RB’s, but I feel like rarely is their a bad RB class. Safety class I’m pretty sure is really good too. Elite QB in Lawrence, after that I have no idea. Don’t pay much attention to QB’s. Outside of a few LB’s, I’m not real up to date on the ILB’s either.

Ole Miss has a pretty good tight end, but he might be a little slower. Need to check out some Duke, Central Michigan, and Washington games this year too. Tight end is possibly my favorite position in football so I'm constantly watching them even when we don't actually need one.

Ya, I've only watched two Miami games and he did seem to lumber a little, but then saw him hurdle a guy. He's definitely athletic so maybe he was just banged up.

My wish list for the 21 draft would include a very physical middle of the defense guy to eventually replace Greene/Amos, a big bad defensive end to play next to Clark, and a good cornerback. The defense needs a turnover creator. I don’t know if that kind of guy will be available like Darren Sharper was in mid to late second round.

While I would never argue this is a strength of his, id also argue it isn't a severe issue either. The tools, frame and athleticism is there to grow in that some, will he ever excel at it maybe not, but that ceiling isn't met yet IMO.

I'm done guessing our likelihood...but I do sense Defensive Backfield in some capacity gets a heavy look, defensive line, WR or special TE and edge of course could become one if Preston is cut like I expect.

Our OL depth is pretty stout, but we will add more I'm sure late Day 2 and/or Day 3

That’s pretty much my thinking too. I’ll be surprised if we don’t take a CB somewhere in rounds 1-3.
