Schum significantly inproved over the second half of the season, therefore bringing him back makes a lot of sense.

With the Packers signing him to an exclusive rights free agent deal (one year, $615K, no guarantees) the teamcan bring in competition this offseason and release him at any point without dead money counting against the cap.

There's absolutely no reason to get frustrated about this move.

do you seriously consider this one year experiment to be what is needed? consistant 45 with hang time is crucial. he lines it for big returns on occaision.

To be fair Schum was a bit better than Mastay during 2nd half of the season. I'd bring him back and see how be progresses.

I wouldn't mind bringing in some competition for Schum but there's hardly any reason to be upset about this move.

no problem bringing him in, but signed? no...

The Packers can't have a player on the roster without him being signed to a contract. With the contract including no guarantees the team is able to cut him at any point though without dead money counting against the cap.

Ok. Ask yourselves this: would Belichek sign this guy? Hell no.

We risk nothing by signing him. As Captain said no guarantees for his contract. If in Training Camp he shows he regressed massively they can cut him without loss on cap space. Nothing to lose but everything to gain if he improves.

Can't figure out why people are even remotely upset about this. As Captain pointed out, the Packers did nothing but assure themselves of having one punter in camp. A punter who was better than the punter the Packers had for the 2 previous seasons. No money was paid out, no guarantees. Do people freak out when UDFA's are signed and paid? It's all about giving your team options.
