Unless something has changed I know that most of the coaches dont want anything to do with him.

We lost Jones and Poppinga for the year, and i'd say pretty confidently (although I do love Zombo) that Merriman would be an upgrade to what we have..

That is usually not a good thing. T.T.'s intuition has been spot on pretty much. I'm feelin The Green and some of the new guys we brought up anyway.

It was several coaches not TT that I heard about. TT, I dont know what his feelings are on "lights out"

If he clears through waivers and we can sign him for the vet minimum, I'm down. Chargers will be on the hook for his full salary at that point and he can showcase any talents he might have remaining.

Doubt he falls that far though. Bills and Browns could use some defensive help, Dallas might make a play and AZ might snag him too.

He has been garbage since he had to come off the roids. No thanks. Let some other sucker take him.

Merriman has 5 tackles so far this year. No sacks, forced fumbles, or ints.

Zombo has 15 tackles, 2 sacks, and a forced fumble so far this year.

Why replace a young guy with a big upside who is producing for an older guy who hasn't shown any flashes for over 2 seasons?

I would be down for bringing him in if that was the case. At worst we cut him then.

Do you think he will have to try out with teams?

Merriman hasn't played well for a few years now. Last time I saw him play, last season, I am not sure he is an upgrade. Once he was off the juice he lost his strength and he lost his aggressiveness. He became a marginal player. I would probably have him in for a tryout though, just to make sure.

Here are Merriman's stats this season:
Shawne Merriman: Game Logs

The last 48 games, he has played on 18, started on 16, and had 4 sacks.

Here are Zombo's numbers:
Frank Zombo: Game Logs

He has started on 3 games, has 2 sacks.

You judge who's better.

BTW, San Diego is #1 in the league in sacks. Merriman isn't playing.
We're #3 in sacks.

You judge if it's a good move.

I think the Tila thing was exaggerated...if he passes through all the waivers, trying him out doesn't hurt at all, coaches would know immediately if he still got it
