Did you miss the replay?
the ball was almost sideways. I think a great holder might have got it up straight. No way I would give up Bojo because he doesn't hold well. I'd find another holder...after I fired the st coach.

I'm not going to throw Crosby under the bus. The guy has won a lot of games for us with his kicks. He's not anywhere the end of his career, unless it's his choice. I did a bit of kicking myself, and a change in holder, followed later by a new long snapper, and the whole kick has changed. If you haven't kicked in a game, it would be difficult understanding.

Would this post be on point, in your view?

Mason’s postseason record is impressive. He’s been a constant weapon in the poor weather, postseason contests.
When I read about this “doesn’t come up big in big games” stuff. I immediately tune out, because it doesn’t align with historical evidence. That’s the good thing about Kickers, it’s 100% documented.

I read through the post pretty quickly, but everything seems to be pretty much there when it comes to kicking.

I certainly hope that post wasn't why the person was banned.

There's nothing that says the punter has to be the holder. There has to be some one better at it though.

I cant understand how you cant get good at snapping or holding the ball. Get together on your free time and drill it until its perfect. Otherwise have fun with a normal job making a fraction of the pay.

That was one well written statement of the process. The problem is, not many people will take the time to read it, and unless they've experienced it, understand it.

Crosby has done a great job for years. They made changes at the most inopportune times, and people blame him for the changes they made on the roster. It don't make sense.

Would I add anything to the article? No. It covers the process very well.

I don't advocate for the Packers to move on from Crosby this season but the field goal unit needs to improve somehow. The team currently ranks 31st in the league in field goal percentage.

Is Mason Crosby clutch? I went back and compiled a list of every game-tying or game-winning attempt he's had with under 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter (or in overtime).

Overall, he's 17 out of 27 (62.9%), from an average distance of 39 yards.

More specifically, he's 13 out of 21 (61.9%) on game-winning/go-ahead kicks and 4 out of 6 (66.6%) on game-tying kicks.

Would like to know how many of those are from over 50, which I believe most view as 50/50 kicks.

Also, would like to know how many of those missed kicks were due solely to Crosby.

I understand the concern this season, but like most have pointed out, moving away from him right now is probably not the best option. No doubt his job for 2022 will be on the line though, when the Packers can save about half of his cap hit ($2.395M) by cutting him.

Nine of them were 50+, and he made three of them, two of which came in the same game. Hard to say how many were solely due to Crosby unless you go back and watch the tape. But 27 is a fairly large sample size comprising several different holders/long snappers.

Thanks....I can't say whether its a good stat or a bad one for Mason. I know he has been pretty clutch in the playoffs and didn't miss any last season. Just like if you look at MVS this season. He has had a lot of targets that he didn't catch, but most of them were uncatchable. Does that make him a crappy WR?

I don't know a lot about Bojorquez's history, but one thing that might play into things is that he's a lefty trying to catch snaps as a righty.

Typically the punter is the holder these days because you want specialists practicing together. You don't want your backup QB or someone else missing other team drills specific to their position in order to practice FGs. To a lesser degree, I think that teams don't want their backup QB potentially getting hurt. I don't think that I can ever remember a FG holder getting hurt unless it's a busted play.

Temporarily for this season though, I agree with others that if you can find someone on the team that can do it better, I would see if that could work.

Mason is 35th in the league

35th in what? Also, what are you using as your minimum # of kicks to come up with that?

Kickers need to have at least one field goal attempt per game to be considered qualified when taking a look at field goal percentages. With that being said there are currently 31 kickers who have at least attempted 10 field goals this season with Crosby ranking dead last among them in FG percentage.

The holder needs to control the ball a little better, the snap has to be a little better, the blocking needs to improve, and Crosby needs to shut out all the outside noise and just concentrate on the kick itself. Kicking Crosby's balls because he's had the yips is not going to improve the way it plays out whatsoever. Replacing him, or threatening to replace him, at this point in time, will lead to nothing but a finish to the season where FGs and extra points will be disastrous.

Just my opinion. I still have faith in Crosby getting past this. It wasn't just this one FG attempt, or extra point, that made the difference in this game. Other plays contributed to us being in that situation in the first place.

Mason Crosby didn’t miss a field goal last season but he has already missed six over the first nine games this year.
Should we be thinking about moving on without him next year?
He still will likely land a job. Whether he keeps it or not hard to tell. Dan Bailey was given new life by the Vikings in the last couple years and blew it. Robbie Gold is still true in SF if he can avoid injuries. The one thing the Bears do have is an outstanding kicker. Crosby came aboard as a rookie a year after Longwell departed. Maybe it is time for someone who can start a career here.

It's interesting to take a closer look at Santos' numbers this season. Out of the 13 field goals he has made only three of them have been from 40+ yards and none of them longer than 47.
